thanks. BTW, the cleaning only worked for about 2 months and it acted up again. I ended up replacing the part and that fixed it long term.

Very helpful wanted to ask ... Ive been having the car jump up rpms without gaining speed after going up hills .... can you message me to see if you’ve had that issue on this car?

Are you saying that the car revs up RPM while going up the hill? or after it gets up? and is this the only time it does this? If it is reving the engine but you do not increase in speed, I would suspect slipping clutch. Is this a manual transmission by chance? That is the only thing I can think of off hand.

Just wondering did your Mazda have a OBD port somewhere? I've got a 2001, 1.8l protege and have cold starting trouble. I'm also unable to locate an odb port. It does have an old diagnostic box under the hood. Cheers Jake

yes, they all will have an EGR valve, but it might be a bit different than this one.

My engine keeps flooding and it stalls out after driving on a 00 mazda protege. It will restart after a 20 min. rest. I have replaced vaccum hose, air filter & box and also mass air flow sensor. The spark plugs are only 3 months old. There is no over heating or miss firing. What else could it be?

You say that it floods? how do you know this? If it really is flooding (too much gas), then I would be looking at the fuel injectors as the problem. Could start by cleaning them. If it just stalls due to lack of fuel, then it also could be injectors. However if it stalls because it is idling too low or misfiring, then you have timing issues. Do you have any check engine lights on? if so, get the codes read as they will provide more clues. Good luck.

There are no codes or check engine light there were two leaking vaccum hose and a bad air box previously. Thinking it might be a previous mechanic try to rip me off. It runs very smooth until in traffic or getting off the highway

I cleaned the throttle body & EGR valve is was dirty due to the flooding before I fixed the hoses and air box. Thanks

2001 looks way easier than a 98 - much more room; 98 bolts on the side and heads are easy to see but almost impossible to get any purchase on them

Can that code be the reason your car cranks but won’t start. I have the same car down to the year and I even have to code to just wondering

Probably not the reason it is not starting. In most cases it would run. but just run real crappy. I suggest you check the basics. Verify your getting fuel (fuel filter, and injectors). Check that the plugs are firing, and that the air cleaner and air passage is clear. And I would check the timing belt! good luck.

You didn't let us know if that helped in solving the problem. Wasn't that the primary objective? FYI use oven cleaner to clean. Requires no brushing. Apply, let it sit for a few minutes, rinse. Continue till desired results. I'll give you an "E" for effort bud.

as my mom always said. if you got nothing good to say, then don't say anything at all. FYI, this was a "trouble shooting video". It fixed the problem for about a month and then light came back on. Ultimately I replaced the unit with new and the problem went away.
