2001 Kubelwagen Volkswagen 1600 cc 4-Speed

The Intermeccanica TYP82 Kubelwagen was produced by Intermeccanica. A faithful reproduction of the 1939 VW WWII troop transporter, this is #43 of just 62 built from the late 1990s-early 2000s.
The 1600cc dual-port head VW engine is fitted with dual Weber ITC carburetors is linked to a 4-speed manual limited slip transaxle. Front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, and improved suspension make for a fun and uniquely configured vehicle!

If that Canadian Company manufactured it with a hardtop, integrated fuel cap, spare tire in the trunk and with the possibility of installing air conditioning... that company would become a multi-millionaire in a few years... it would be like the birth of a new Volkswagen but with the name of its ancestor KUBELWAGEN... it would be the best-selling utility vehicle on the Planet.

I would love to have one but it does lack some details of the originals cosmetically. I would want a flat panzer gray or desert tan color and canvas seats as per the originals.

I would Love to have a Test Drive of a Reproduction KUBELWAGEN...an Uncle of mine had a 1974 BEETLE back in the late 1970's. The Original KUBELWAGEN was a Lean and Meen Stripped Down version of the BEETLE/VOLKESWAGEN on STEROID'S was'nt it???

Yes, the two vehicles are related and much of the thinking was revised into "The Thing" which VW produced in the 1970s and sold well in North American markets. This one was built by independent car maker Intermeccanica (no longer making cars). My understanding is that the tooling and molds for this and other cars they made are still available, but you can only purchase these as pre-owned cars. These have a lot more hp than the original cars, better transmissions, and more road-oriented suspension so they are more spirited that the original.

These are no longer being made unless via custom order. However many are available through the secondary market. The company that made this one is Intermeccanica.

It would be an excellent vehicle for the automotive market like the Volkswagen was... with that stronger and easier to maintain body, with great customization possibilities, it is a great option for hundreds or thousands of people like me, to have a strong vehicle, reliable and economical that would be within everyone's reach... it only lacks a rigid roof instead of a canvas... If that Canadian company gives it the missing touches... it would be the best-selling vehicle like the Volkswagen was...

Gloss coat was the choice of the factory application. Flat is more suitable to the original use but not for most buyers of these today who want a fun beach car.
