    Put a pair of Rockford Fosgate two-way 6.75" speakers in the front doors of my '01 Dakota club cab tonight. Using the 6.75" there was enough "meat" on the edges to use short screws directly into the door frame and bypass the factory mounting ring. Green/violet positive works for me...haven't seen any real information in my searches. My speakers sounded better with the door panels off (no tweeter) so I may unplug them. Thanks for the video, helped a bunch....tomorrow I tackle the rear speakers (same two-way Fosgates)

    you might wanna check your shop manual, your truck is a reg cab with the infinity system, you may have been looking at a quad cab diagram. also, you used a coaxial 3 way speaker to replace a "component 2 piece system". You may want to check the crossover output and make sure the tweeter is being fed only the high frequencys and not the lower frequency's. That may explain why you have poor bass. Just my 2cents worth. ps: you may also wanna turn off your head unit while performing any work on the stereo, I have heard that that Infinity amplifier gets damaged easy if you short anything to ground.

    I have these same speakers , for a factory speaker replacement you cant beat them for the price. For someone who has a tuned ear they might not fit your taste. Im going to put a better head unit behind mine and give them a chance. I probably will replace with Alpine component 6.5 set.

    I would have used the stock bracket like you did but, I would have made up 3 small rectangular pieces from thin metal and, used the original mounting holes to fasten them down while they overlapped the speaker, holding it in place. Also, they sell a wire kit that just clips in to the harness and, on to the speaker for $5

    Solid Install Video right there. My God Man, did you already have that kind of patience and ability to compromise and work with what you have before or after you had your Kid? We see it definitely changed and had an effect on #TheMandalorian !

    Is the place you mentioned where the rubber boot holding the wires enters the body leading to the dash/firewall? It's worth investigating. The speakers are in good shape. I just need to know where to look. I would like stereo sound.

    Have you considered swapping your manual windows for power? Would you DIY if you did? I have an '04, and did the radio myself, and will likely do the speakers now that Ive seen how easy it was... but not having either power window or cruise control is just a bit lame

    Sarah F I like my manual windows. But i would do the swap myself if I were going to do it. Cruise control is useless - especially on a truck.

    I am having intermittent sound out of my front speakers. I just bought a 98 Dakota Sport. One of the screws is missing out of the driver's side panel so it makes me think someone was in there at some point. I will be removing the panels in the near future. Do all the speakers have a common ground/black wire? I'm thinking it's common but I don't know for sure. I think they're shorting out somewhere.

  • @SevenFortyOne

    @SevenFortyOne

    I don't remember for sure but I don't think the grounds are common to each other. You'll have to check a schematic or use a DVM to check for continuity to be sure.

    Okay. I pulled off the door panels and used a test speaker with the plug and got nothing. I am leaning toward thinking it's the head unit. I think I'm just gonna leave it and use a bluetooth speaker with my iPhone.

    Sometimes the wires crack where they transition from the door to the firewall from opening and closing action over the years. You may want to check that before writing off the head unit...

    I installed these same pyles a long time ago in my 2002 GMC Sierra 1500. Personally I think they are pretty crappy but if your not looking for pounding bass that will shake your face off your head this is good. Its a good temporary replacement until you come up with around $60 to get nice ones. What do you expect from some speaker company nobody really likes for under $20 haha. I now have pioneer back door speakers and sony front door speakers in my sierra. a 10" champion series pioneer sub to go along with that also running on a dual audio amp.

    Man I love all these comments..checking unit because you used a 3 way speaker instead of 2 way as if speakers don't come with resistors for the tweeters already..I've personally never seen speakers that don't unless you buy a true 2 way or 3 way system with separate tweeter, mid, and bass in which they will come with a crossover to hook them up..and if the guy wants a new speaker for am radio then thats what he wants lol to many people with to much time on their hands

    Actually the solid color wire is Positive and the wire with dark line on it is Negative. Having your wires mixed up will give you poor Sound to.

    They may not be as bad as you think. These are two way speakers and just putting them in place of the factory speakers like I did without a crossover may be causing the frequency response to be screwed up. Try disconnecting the factory tweeters and see if they sound better.
