Did you have to do any programming?

Not necessary on the W203. Just find the a SAM with the same part number and also same trim. C230 C320 C240 whatever your trim is and in most cases you don't need to do any programing at all.

$1370! If my 2005 crapped out, I would go to the junkyard and pull one for $50.

You don't show where the screws are and what tools you used to remove it. What's the point?

From other places on the Internet, I was advised that I would probably have to change the rear SAM. I have two C230s so I swapped the rear SAMs. Things did not get better. I took my car to a general auto repair shop and they advised that I take it to a specialist or dealer. They warned that changing the SAM probably required reprogramming and I could have caused damage by doing what I did. I used this video to swap my SAMs. I am now worried that I may have made a simple problem worse by following the steps in this video. If it is true that reprogramming is required, it is irresponsible that the people who produced this video - who would be expected to know these things - not to include that information in the video.

You did not make things worse just because you swapped the sam. It is recommended to transfer the configurations of the old SAM to the new SAM but even if you didn't that should not cause any issues as long as the new used SAM is from a similar vehicle and part numbers match. W203 doesn't require SCN coding so any mechanic with a good scanner can do the little programing that is required.

@@YOUCANIC Thank you for commenting on my comment. What you say is good news! The mechanic I took it to has good scanners but nothing MB specific. It sounds like he was scared off by the multiple issues I reported. My comment was based on what I was told. In the meantime, I have made an appointment at the MB dealer and I'll report back. @@YOUCANIC Would it be a good idea to give instructions to do the programming that is required? I would think they would be part of the process of changing the SAM.

I swapped the SAMS back and now both cars seem to be back where they were before I took the first SAM out. For whatever reason, one of my C230s worked well with either SAM but one only worked well with one of the SAM it came with. Odd... YOUCANIC, you were correct that programming was not necessary when you change the SAM.
