"Unable to establish communication with the Ford ABS system" that's exactly what my scan tool says! I just bought this 04 mustang and it's been doing the exact same thing to me! Driving me nuts! Thank you so much for making this video. I'll be going to Pull a Part tomorrow and trying this myself. Everything else is good, fuses are all good. I just hope the donor car doesn't have the same issue.

the common issue is bad solder joints in the abs module. it is a gamble going to the junkyard hoping to find a working one. my gt had the issue many years ago. sent it out to get repaired buy a reputable guy online that had a website and forum post. worked flawlessly after the solder joint repair. mine was the original unit and it was shipped back to me not swapped out with a different one.

Agreed, Sending the original out for repair is the best way to fix this issue.

What were the symptoms? For me the brake pedal vibrates then ABS light turns on.

Two questions - How do you get the black bracket out? And how do you get the module off the pump? Is there a trick.or special tools? I can't get to anything in my car. Did you remove the AC lines and radiator?

I pulled bracket and complete module together then seperated bracket , finally seperated module halves. The bracket to module studs can get caught if the slot in the bracket is deformed

I have 2004 mustang v6. When the ABS light is on I can't communicate with it just like you couldnt. When the ABS light is off it allows me to communicate and it gives me b1318 code (battery voltage low)

The fuse or plug connection could be corroded

when you replaced abs module, did you have to do any reprogramming?

Exact issue that I'm experiencing on my '03 MACh 1. The dealership said they cannot connect to the module and asked me for $1,200+ just for the module. I think I'll be finding one like you did and repairing myself. Did you take the entire assembly out of the bracket to gain easier access to the module torx head bolts? Thanks for the video.

yes I took the module out of the bracket to get to the screws that hold the two halves together. I left the brake hydraulic lines connected and did not need to bleed brake fluid so it was pretty easy.

Would a V6 traction abs module ( electric part only) unit work on a gt, are they the same?

It says v6 on the original and replacement I noticed. I did get a replacement from a v8

I got a ABS module from the junkyard and installed it but the ABS light did not turn off :(

Could need a brake bleed, checking the codes is important too.
