2000 Cadillac Deville check coolant level message

Фильм және анимация

I kept getting a constant "check coolant level" message. Found the coolant level sensor had failed. I replaced the reservoir with sensor and retested.

    One of the easiest and most important things all you Northstar Cadillac owners can do is clean out the purge line. That small hose attached to the tank runs under the beauty cover . Remove the cover COLD, disconnect the hose remove the cap on the tank put the hose into the tank and have someone start the car. Holding on to the hose there should be a steady small stream flowing. If not that purge line is clogged with that stop leak crap that Cadillac doesn't recommend anymore. Follow the hose to the other side and disconnect it. There is a hollow bolt nipple there. Clean it out with a coat hanger or wire. If you have compressed air blow it out. You might find a bunch of gunk in there. Once it's cleaned out reattach the bolt side put the tank end back in the tank and start it up. If you have a steady stream you are good to go. Reattach the tank end , check your coolant level HALF FULL COLD. That purge line is very important for the cooling system in these cars. They can overheat and cause all sorts of problems if that line isn't clean. Many of these cars are junked because people think it's a blown head gasket or pulled head bolts when it's just a clogged purge line. Sorry to repeat NO STOP LEAK TABLETS OR ANY SNAKE OIL IN THE COOLING SYSTEM. Change the coolant every 2 years and if you find a leak FIX IT. Rant over.

    Check the bleeder hoses from time to time on top of the bottle make sure that hose is clear and not plugged. U can remove it from the other side of the engine. Take a small screw driver and make sure it is clear. Fluid is suposed to come out of that hose with very little force. a steady stream with no pressure. Be well good luck.

    I just bought a 2000 Sedan DeVille Base with only 62 000 miles The only complaint I have with this Caddy is from the "high vibration" the Northstar does. It loosens the Valve Cover bolts allowing it to leak briefly when getting on it or idling on a upward hill ... I'll un-loosen & re-torque them in the correct pattern & put loctite on the bolts or use lock washers, & that should fix that slight problem, hopefully... Need to do it real soon bcuz them rockers need alot of Oil.

    If you want you could take that engine cover off and leave it off. Helps the engine dissipate,,, get rid of the heat which around 150,000 will start making the plastic brittle under he cover on the fuel rail and the ignition and coil wires. I have a 2004 deville 300,000 with 1 rebuild. Engine bolts inherently pull from the engine . Common problem with these. When that happens reach out to Northstar Performance on line. They have patent taps and stud replacement. Good luck with the car. They call these cars shit wagons. I been rebuilding these Northstars for 30 years now. Be well and good luck.

  • @NooBGarage

    @NooBGarage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thats a hard one. I think the price is too high. Could just be low on coolant and needs to be topped off. But, if they say they check their fluids regularly then that means there is an active leak and these northstars are know for head gasket leaves. That would explain the low coolant and oil leak. Like I said, could be nothing too.

    Good vid but I have two criticisms. You were tapping that screwdriver 4 inches away from a running pulley! What if it slipped out of your hand? :D Also, you didn't mention that the coolant is deadly to pets and that pets will tend to lap up any spills because the ethylene glycol has a sweet taste to animals. Of course, it's deadly to humans too but they are less likely to lick spills. Here's a tip for finding leaks. Let it sit until everything is dry. Then at night, let the engine come up to temperature and then look for leaks with a blacklight. Antifreeze has a fluorescent dye built-in specifically for helping to find leaks.

    Ethylene glycol no longer has that taste that attracts dogs and cats or whatever it was changed because people were killing people with it pouring it in sweet drinks where we're going undetected so now it has a bitter taste

    You put those tablets in the lower rad hose NEVER in the tank. Cadillac had a bulletin years ago to not use them anymore. Caused more problems with clogged heater cores ect. They were put in the factory (Barrs leak stop ) for nuisance external coolant weeps. They can NOT stop internal leaks , head gaskets etc. DO NOT USE THEM. Flush and fill with fresh coolant every 2 years. That's it. If you have a leak fix it.

    This is a dumb video. You said that you toped everything off. But you didn't show us how to top the container off with antifreeze.
