Me and my grandpa found a easy way of doing it just take off the head hose and then but a fonel into the bubbler and it will feel the radiator and everything else up with out having to let air out of the system

If it works, it works. As long as it gets the coolant in and the air out.

Don't use the green coolant because it will crystallize all around your engine block and then your engine will overheat. That's what happened to my Celica gts

It may have gotten mixed with another type (not color)of coolant. Or an additive (stopleak, etc) that reacted with it. With regards to coolant. #1. Do Not mix different types of coolant. #2. You do not have to buy it from the dealer. To stay safe, use the manufacturer recommended "type" of coolant. Toyota coolant is usually red. It will say something like this "For Asian Vehicles Red/Pink Antifreeze + Coolant is specifically designed for Asian vehicles." If you want to learn more, do a KZread search for "coolant types." There are a lot of videos about it. This is one I found with a quick search. It may not be the best one, but it hits the basics of coolant. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hX-jm8OBlLKdh7g.html

So the tube I've taken off from the block, the coolant is full and burped but there is no coolant coming out of that tube, it has old fluid in it so do you think there is a blockage by the head or in that tube? After driving it, the temp gauge goes to hot and heater blows somewhat warm but not hot. What are your thoughts? Also I did everything as you've done in your video

Nick C there is a drain valve on the back of the block Transmission end. Just below the exhaust manifold. Drain fitting has a 10 mm bolt that opens the valve. Bolt does not need to be removed all the way.

There is a sticker under the hood, stuck to the under side of the hood. That gives the correct procedure of how to change the coolant

Yes it does but it's not very informative. They could have simply shown a picture of the tank above the engine and then described the bleeding procedure. This guy made it easy to understand and more importantly why it's needed. The first step in fixing anything is knowing how it works.

Hello I need help, I recently purchase a 2000 Toyota Celica GTS. I need to add coolant but I don’t know what kind/type is it. What is the recommended one or the best one? Is it the red kind?

Extended life coolant. Yes most are red

Got an 05 celica that the coolant reservoir was low, filled it up and lost coolant in about ten miles. Filled it back up and hasn’t lost any but trying to run hot. Only code was for temp sensor which I replaced. Think it’s thermostat or water pump? Hoses aren’t getting hot and coolant apparently isn’t moving? Thanks

Just some thoughts. First It's impossible to troubleshoot long distance. But .. the reason that it appeared full the 1st time and then was low is because it wasn't full.. Air gets trapped in in the head on these cars and it's very hard to get out. If that air pocket is not worked out of the head It will continue to overheat. That takes a long time to get that air out. The coolant fill procedure is important. Also it is possible that you have another problem such as... possibly... a stuck thermostat or a possible headgasket leak. Again impossible to trouble shoot long distance.

I put a new thermostat in today.. took about 4 hours with alternator in the way probably should’ve just removed it. But it still didn’t fix the problem. I think either my radiator is clogged or water pump is bad. How would you go about checking which one is bad? I’m going to do the bleeding of the coolant tomorrow but I just have a feeling it’s radiator or water pump. Thanks

Hi TSR Garage I used your video for the engine swap that got me thru many a potential roadblock. Therefore, I subscribed a back in May. However, I'm having a helluva time trying to determine where the line that comes off the top of the reservoir that you reference at the 1:46 mark connects on the block. I have all of the lines hooked up except this one. You reference to "the top of the head" however, the line I have has the same bends as yours and there is only the one connection on the side of the radiator line connection. The heater lines are hooked up to the base of the throttle body. I'm catching grief from my wife the car is not running and the kids keep using her Mazda. Is it possible to find out exactly where the line that comes off the top of the reservoir connects to the block? many thanks sir!

1zz comes off of a fitting just above the throttle body. 2zz comes off of a port next to the main radiator hose. It is the farthest forward port.

@@alfloyd5360 just happen to be sitting on my a** playin on my phone 😁. The second part of my reply 1zz hooks to a fitting above the throttle body. Fitting is a metal tube that splits the flow between the coolant tank and the throttle body.

@@TSRGarage thanks sir...I will verify if there is a fitting there. Is this fitting (as you referenced) on the head? I wished I could post a picture as all of the lines are hooked up.

I have a 2000 Gts. And I dont overheat. But the fan turns on way to much, and it seems that the coolant isnt circulating as good as it should. The air in the vents are only warm and not hot. AND I also can hear a bubbling noise around the heater core near the passenger side dash board area. ANY clues?

Hard to say for sure. the bubbling sound may be some air in the system. but if you are not overheating and the coolant reservior is staying full (it may not be air in the system). If you are having to add coolant that would mean a leak somewhere and if Celicas leak any collant at all they will get air in the system. If the Air conditioning is on the fans will cycle on and off with A/C. As for the air from the heater not being hot, the thermostat could be bad, not closing all the way. Watch this video on Celica heaters, kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z5pszdaCYqTOmLg.html. it is what I know about the Heating system. Good Luck . It is very hard to trouble shoot long distance :) but this is the best info i can give you.

i pulled the radiator hoses all off my engine when i was swapping transmissions and then just refilled it after putting it all back together. After doing that my car overheats and i dont get heat through my vents. Do you think there is air in there?

Yes, It must be bled out by raising the coolant tank only way to get air out of the head. Also the coolant tank has a slot on the forward bottom eddge that will sit on the hood catch. I didn't point that out in the video (umm no hood latch yet)

With regards to coolant. #1. Do not mix different types of coolant. #2. You do not have to buy it from the dealer. To stay safe use recomended coolant. @@bradpitt3965 Red... pink. Do the you tube search on "types of coolant". You are hung up on colors you are looking for a type of coolant. Specifically made for toyota. It willsay on the container "designed for Asian Vehicles Red/Pink Antifreeze + Coolant is specifically designed for Asian vehicles" Same type of coolant can be different colors. Less dye =Pink More dye = Red

It is generally recommended to use Toyota Red on older vehicles. This is mainly because older Toyota radiators usually have non-aluminum radiators, while pink radiators do not contain the inhibitors needed to protect them. Long Life Red Coolant contains molybate and triazole to protect metals (copper, etc.) in older radiators. Toyota Red can also be used on later car models but comes from the factory in pink. Pink coolant was used on most Toyota cars from the early to mid-2000s. My Celica Ts is from 2003 so I need to find out if I have an aluminum heat sink or not. Donkeys in British Toyota know nothing but money from the client :) :) :)

Just use factory recommended coolant, usually says Asia vehical,Toyota, lexus, scion.

Thanks. Red/pink is extended life coolant... Lasts longer without changing. Green needs service/changing at shorter intervals. It will not harm the cooling system if serviced properly. Just do not mix them.

@@TSRGarage There are conditioners in the red that keep the gaskets fresh. It's higher quality. Will green hurt it. No, not short term. You should always use OEM everything. If you want it to last

i bleed this car without lifting the coolant rezervoir, i just remove the small hose from the reservoir side , then put a finger on the hole and start sucking on the hose to build some vaccum, then release finger while still holding the hose, doing this the water from reservoire will get sucked into the engine, refill..repeat procedure and after 2-3 sucks water will come out from the small hose and will be completly bled.a diesel priming suction bladder would do the job better and not getting coolant in mouth at the end

Check engine light was for cat efficiency O2 sensor (would go off occasionally and come back). And the radiator and overflow tank was replaced. After finding a "good" source of non-ethanol fuel I haven't had a check engine light for cat or O2 sensors in over a year.

@@TSRGarage my celica gt check engine pop out after i put seafoam and after that it says P0171 Trouble Code: System Too Lean after 9months because im not using it then check engine gone...but i always start the car every to weeks...do you think is the seafoam coz the check engine ligth?

There are 4 hoses on the coolant reservoir, 2 on drivers side, 2 on passenger side. On passenger side I know the top hose is an overflow hose but can you tell me where the bottom hose on passenger side of the reservoir goes to?

Bottom hose goes to the engine. connecting Near the lower radiator hose. Behind the alternator.

Thank you very much. I bought the car cheap & my son has driven it a ton but it began overheating so I changed the water pump & thermostat & seen that specific hose just has a bolt shoved in it. Idk how it isn’t screwed by now

@@davincasada7499 Wow all I can say WOW. I agree with you. That hose is a main part of the circulation system... that keeps the water moving through the coolant tank separating and trapping the air in the top of the coolant reservoir. Hope it didn't overheat to bad and hurt the head gasket.

It doesn’t have any coolant in the oil but I know that doesn’t mean anything. It fires up instantly & sounds great. Does it connect directly behind the alternator?

@@davincasada7499 yes, to hook it up the alternator may have to be removed. Or remove the top bolt and pivot it out of the way.. might work.

Radiator fans will not come on until the engine is completely warmed up/hot. And radiator is hot... It takes a while for the engine to get hot. If they don't come on when engine is hot . Could be bad fan relay or fan motors. One way to check fan motors is turn on air conditioning radiator fans will run when a/c is on.

@@karleebrite6275 Not sure. It takes a long time for the engine to heat up. 15-20 minutes or more if it's cold outside. The coolant flowing through the small hoses to the water/filler reservoir bottle Will be hot. Hot. Before the thermostat opens. Then water will start to flow through the radiator. The radiator upper and lower hoses will be hot hot. Before the fans come on. The temperature gauge on the dash will reach normal operating temperature. and be there for a while before. The thermostat opens. Also, do not run your heater fan. . As doing this will make it take even longer for the motor to heat up enough to open the thermostat. Hope this all helps.

I refilled coolant on my celica but it’s not going to the radiator or block and when I start my car it dies after

Ya, the car exploded a few days later because of the coolant 🤣🤣. Check the video description. I linked one video about coolant. There is a lot of information out there about types of coolant, change intervals, etc. Do not mix different types of coolant. Have a great day.
