Elvis is truly a national treasure. In the short time he lived in this country, he did more for other people than millions of others. If anyone deserves to have a statue on display forever and ever, it is Elvis Presley.

Amazing how we only knew about Elvis in the 70s just from listening to his songs and dancing in parties. I was a teenager at the time but only now I have found out what a great person he was.

That's the darn shame about it! All the tabloids and papers did was tear him down and after he died he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Can you imagine how hurt he was reading that crap when he knew he was a good person?

I was lucky enough to be in the movie "Double Trouble" with Elvis, in fact I am on the cover of the DVD with him. I am the guy playing the Fender Stratacaster on the right as you are looking at the photo or to Elvis left. Although being incredibly busy he took time to talk to us guys in the band and joke around a bit. I could sense the amount of pressure he was under and know for a fact that I myself could never have handled it. I think that pressure must have contributed to his early death. That experience of being in that movie with Elvis has provided me with so many stories that I can tell family and friends. I never imagined I would end up on the cover of the DVD with Elvis. A thousand years from now when people watch that movie someone watching it might just wonder who those lucky guys in the band with Elvis were...well I was one of those lucky guys. My name is Steve Allen and the group was the Fifth Amendment...we changed our name for the movie to the G-Men.

I truly loved this short story of Elvis. It brought tears to my eyes in sadness & in admiration. I never was a fan, though respected him & his contributions to music & culture. I even, at the age of ten, remember the exact moment place & person who told me that he had passed. I had to ask this older girlfriend I hung with why she was crying so much & she told me at the V.F. W. Parking lot where we played kick ball that the king died. I said, "who?'" And she explained Elvis P. The king of rock n roll. I still didn't have immediate recollection of who she was talking about. It wasn't till she sang some of his songs did I recall. I don't know why this one person's death had such an imprint on my memory, but I believe it was not just her sadness but I felt my whole world nieghbors , family, everyone in my city of Boston, Ma. Was silent & sad. It felt like a huge wave of silence and sadness and she was the only one who talked to me about his death &.I was the youngest of nine children, so there was always chatter at my house. However, not on this day there was silence & a mood of silence that I couldn't understand. Well since Baz's new movie I've read & watched Elvis info. For hours a day everyday for a month now. I am so moved & understand now that very odd vivid memory of Aug. 16, 1977. I've never had a memory burnt into my mind As I did his death, even no I knew nothing of the gravity of what was going on. I'm so glad I can understand better the impact of his death that day. I just wished I had more images of him being a live. I am now a true fan & want my grandchildren to grow to know & love him as well. I love his humble loving humanity that touches my heart. If we had more people with his unselfish love for people our world would be such a better place. I pray his legacy will live & inspire others to walk a mile in others shoes before they critics & judge. I pray his smiling down on us with great humble happiness he hasn't been forgotten and his fans grow over years!!! So

Elvis never did anything small. He believed, if you are going to do it, do it big. Cars, rings, motorcycles, it didn't matter. Giving his heart and soul to people. In the songs too. Being generous to a fault. I can't believe some relatives took advantage of him. There never will be such a kind, humble and shy person. He lived for his fans, family and friends. Elvis was down to earth and wanted to share his death. Helping organizations with donations. Not everyone knew this. Elvis didn't want recognition for this. Thank you for sharing memories of Elvis. A fan for life. Long live Elvis!

He was a very very giving man! He gave to people that didn’t even know who he was!! He.never ever forgot where he came from, dirt poor living in projects! Elvis was a pioneer in many things, introduced drums to music, he didn’t want to wear jeans n tee shirts on stage so he started wearing his famous jumpsuits, he looked so good and gave a little disabled girl in a wheelchair at the stage a $35,000-$40,000 Opal ring!!! I bet they didn’t know how much it cost, I would have fell out of my wheelchair onto the floor if that was me!!! This is a great documentary on Elvis and how giving he really was!!! THANK YOU ELVIS FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES YOU LEFT US WITH!!! WE ALL CHERISH THEM STILL IN 2020!!!!! 1/8/1935 - 8/16/1977 WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE ❤️ OUR KING

like Linda said, He was also generous With his time, like all the time he spendt With fan meetings before his shows or when he went down to the gates of Graceland to talk to his fans and sign autographs for them. He also paid hospital bills for among other, Jackie Wilson when he was in a coma. And he gave many benefit concerts too and at Christmas , most years he gave 50.000 -100.000 $ to be split among different Memphis organisations . And he never detracted Any of his charity in tax either ! I have never heard Any other celebrety give so generous as Elvis.

Jesus is our King, even EP stated that all the time....he said, "Only Jesus Christ is our lord and king". I understand what you mean, but he never liked being called the King. He had a personal relationship with the Lord, we all fall short of his glory, that's why we have grace...by his grace ( undeserved favor) we are forgiven.

Great post...thanks!! I met Elvis and Linda Thompson in a Memphis gas station in July 1975 when one of Elvis' cars refused to start after getting gas. He and Linda were very friendly and kind. We talked for about 35 minutes standing out in the heat and humidity. They could have gotten into one of the air conditioned cars in their party but instead they stayed outside and talked to my girlfriend and me. He certainly was the greatest, most kind and generous entertainer the world has ever seen!

Why do you say no one?! Immediately, I think of the wonderful African - American Woman who prepared his meals ( she was their the day he died) and other African?-Americans whom he trusted and whose church he attended. They quietly accepted him and respected him and his privacy! He openly shared (cars)with his Black friends too. Biased reports NEVER ask the GREAT Whitney Houston's mother Cissy Houston how she felt about him! She along with other Black ladies sang background for him for years!! Most of this' countries his-tory' is sadly told from just one groups opinion'/ perspective. This is unfair on many levels because for one, *****he too was a descendant of a minority ( Native- American maternal grandfather and a part Native- American and Jewish maternal grandmother) This is according to his most in depth pictured- documentary of his life. He resembled his Native- American Grandfather.******* Of course, he likely would want a full telling of his life! Further, Elvis sadly lived in the times just before Interventions became acceptable! Some have alleged that they really tried to aid him BUT WHAT THE YOUNGER generation Does Not understand; ELVIS PRESLEY was the most famous man on earth during his lifetime for years!!! Therefore, since his mother had passed and his father had for many years been a " practicing Alcoholic", though likely in recovery in his former years; who else would such a man have listened to?! Addendum: it appears one of his background singers was shown in this post for it looks like under a second.

It tells of all the charities visiting inmates on Christmas Eve and talking to each individual prisnor, getting them lawyers and some jobs after they got out and helping their families out etc. Also things in the paper he'd read about a tradgedy and give them what they needed paying hospital bills for ordinary people and stars down on their luck. You really should check it out!

Elvis lived in the moment if he wanted anything he would buy it . If he waned to buy anything for family or friend he had the money he could afford it he would buy it , there has never been anyone before and never has been since or indeed will there ever be anyone that has done that . most celebs might spend a few hundred on anyone but not thousands to jst anyone someone they never even met as Elvis did. celebs today are building up their wealth til they can't even live off the interest their masses make every year without throwing thousands for things that wouldn't cost that much . like i heard the beckhams paid out $1,500 for a breakfast , they didnt need to spend that much , its cos they have so much money they don't know wat to do with it . But with elvis he stored up his riches in heaven god loved a selfless man . RIP Elvis

Oh, how generous he was! Mr. Elvis is needed for the world today. There are the needy ones and the world can not do anything for all . He maybe is the right man to help the world. Well, even so but, every one ought to carry his/her own load. Just thought so. May God bless your good heart, dear Mr. Presley.

Elvis Aron Presley: I wish I knew for sure you are still alive. You are/were sooooooo Generous, and that is so rare, giving to individual people. I've never heard of anyone else like that. Never. I wanted to give you some gifts, but they wouldn't be anything worth much money, just symbolic things and hopefully practical for you to use. Of course, I wouldn't know how to find you either, if you are still on the earth. Anyway, thanks for all you do for so many.

manfred meyer my father always said a person is very lucky if they have 1 good friend in a lifetime. The colonel was a snake. And good ole dad wasn’t looking out for his interest either. Elvis had a heart of gold. I always thought that he and Ann Margaret should have married.

Barbara Williamson Elvis got caught up in stardom and just wasn’t a business person. Parker was a former carnival barker. And yes his dad sure didn’t help him either. When Parker thought Elvis was finished he left. From what I have read the daughter has gone through the money and there is not much left.

She was and is a very strong person, she won the fight against all these demons. They loved each other till the day he died, but i don't think that this marriage would have lasted.
