I’ve binge watched every episode from beginning to end. Great channel Tim. I’m sure I speak for most subscribers when I say we appreciate the amount of work and effort that goes into producing these episodes, and the wealth of information you provide is. Look forward to your latest adventures in the New Year. Cheers mate.

Very well done , I agree . Tim is helping us big time. Very smart and articulate man. Hope he will be able to enjoy adventures once again such as his Bahamian cruse..
That Beneteau's solar panel was comically small.

02:01 the BR 53' is still for sale, its been about 3years or longer ~ she's a great boat!!
This is my budget. The only boat that make sense for the what I want to do is the Beneteau 473. This is nice and rare 2 cabins version. I want to sail in warm water and do the occasional Atlantic crossing.
If I had that kind of money, it would be a Valiant 42. Without hesitation.
Nice Work Tim. Enjoyed as always.
I love Beneteau boats in general, and especially the Sense range. I've seen earlier 43s as low as 150k. I know thats an outlier, but I'm selling a 400k house when my youngest graduates in 18 months, and have my heart set on a Sense.

Have you been on one? I have, they are a disaster of a boat unless its on a hard flat surface.

@@sheilamorrison1954 I haven't been on one. What is a disaster about them. I only hear people raving about the layout.
@sheilamorrison1954

@@neuromercy The layout is great when its flat, the issue is when it isn't. The running joke was that Beneteau said the looked at how people really sail their boat. Sailors turned the phrase into 'Beneteau really looked at how people dont sail their boat', i.e they are for harbour/anchor and boat shows. Aside from what I think is debatable build techniques used, some of the choices of where main systems are (Mostly outside in the storage lockers taking up room) wreck my brain. On the surface it looks good, but living with one would be a pain if you actually want to sail.

@@sheilamorrison1954 ok, yeah, I can appreciate that theninterior is not really designed for passage making, too much open space. But I plan to sail to destinations and live on the hook most if the time. And mostly in the Caribbean. I was drawing ideas for the perfect boat fir many years before I discovered the Sense, and it is so close to me ideal plan, I was blown away. I just new it was meant for me. However, given that I can get a similar sized and age Oceanus for 40% to 50% cheaper, I may go that route, and have more money for any systems I need to add, or toys and upgrades.
Merry Christmas Tim! Love to you and yours from Queensland
Just want to let you know Tim that you have a very inspiring channel, I have been watching it intensively for a couple of months and finally came to write about how useful it is for me, Canadian from the province of Québec on its way to live his dream. You are respectful but honest when needed ( liked your comment on La Vagabonde). We are sharing the same respect for Bad -Ass Gelinas on his Alberg 30. Keep up the great work. Will be sailing soon in the Bahamas feeling more secure and well informed after watching your videos. Best regards.
Informative and diverse as always. Happy holidays to you and yours .
Just watching your last half dozen videos has been very enriching. You break down a lot of pragmatic, practical approaches to living aboard different types of vessels. I really appreciate this man 🙏
For costal sailing and island hopping, I really like Catalinas. They're hard to beat. Good video as always. Happy holidays.
Merry Christmas, Tim!
I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for all your hard work. I have been looking at the Beneteau 44 CC with the helm on the starboard companionway bulkhead . It really checks all the boxes for me. Large aft cabin, private head with a real shower, good engine access, galley with plenty of counter space, and the two bunk beds which can be turned into a workbench with storage. Happy new year.
I think you right on with the Catalina 355. ❤. Great boat for the west coast with the full keel,
Excellent video Tim. Lots of information to think about. A little out of my price range but I do like the Island Packet.
I just bought a 2011 Catalina 355. Electric wenches, bow truster, anchor windless, fibers dodger, dingy davits, new full enclosure, cockpit arch, full Ray Marine compliment, furling mast, mint condition, folding cradle, canvas winter cover and 300 hour YANMAR 30hp. I mostly sail single handed. I’m just across from you on Lac Saint Claire. Delivery in May. Hopefully you can join me for some fun time. Oh and USCG Documented. Closing was yesterday.

@@mightycrucian7884 Congratulations! Sounds like you found a diamond. I own a MacGregor 26X that I've had for over 20 years and always wondered, 'what will my next boat be?' - for nothing out there excited me until I discovered the 355 after it came out in 2011. Wanted one ever since. I'm 52 now and am so ready to trade my young man's boat for a 355, if only I could afford it.

So when are we going to see our first Cat/Tri? Also, what would be the middle ground between the IP and a Bene? Say you want to cross the pond and spend some time in the Med? Or cruise down to the BVIs without having to island hop?

Hrmmm Moody? Morgan? Lot's of options. A smaller Hallberg? Alberg 37?
Wish that when a catamaran comes up in the price category for an episode that you look at/comment if practical. Boatshed St Lucia recently listed a 45' 1998 Robertson and Caine for $175K. It is now under offer. Do hope to see you sometime in Bahamas again.
So much love 2 Uu As i am somewhat “stuck” in frozen lands My pwrfect “price of a small urban home boat would need to A) It would b a home away from home easily moring and electric hookup and all B) Be manageable on coastal areas single or short handed Like one and a half manning!!! Again u r the best for a cold winter day😅
Hmm how about the Hans Christian 43 1988(?) In Milwaukee for 130,00 vs the island packet???? How about the Tartan 4100 1996 for 175 in Annapolis. There's a Swan 40 for low 200s with walk out transom. You seem to be fixated on newer lower quality boats sometimes. Newer doesn't equate with better. Buying a boat is cross over between buying a house and a car. Does it have a new kitchen, new bath how many miles and what maintenance?? That said still a fan
Thank you for your videos. They are very well made, informative and fun to watch. I've watched a good number at this point and am curious why you've never mentioned Dufour. Any particular reason? Thanks in advance! ⛵
From that list I would pick the Island Packet.
Any chance you can do a video for sailboats for tall people? I’m 6’5 and would love to see what sailboats would suite taller people.

As a 6'5.5" guy myself I second this request.
The 1990's Amel Super Maramu's are coming in at this price range.
Happy holidays! I was wondering whether you would start considering a brand new (though maybe smaller) boat, at this price point? Also, could you please include more Dutch, German and Belgian ships? Like Van der stadt, Koopmans, Elan, Dehler?
Tim… what are your thoughts on the Najad 400s. @ $200k, I think well built, Impressive boats.
Ive been on a Catalina and Beneteau, and much prefer the Catalina.
I can appreciate what this channel has evolved into.It is very informative on all types and priced sailboats.As there are many who like this type of channel.I started watching Lady K from the beginning as my wife and I have our own boat.It was very helpful as well as informative for those of us who are somewhat "newbies" to sailing.I know that events can change the direction we go.I have been waiting for you to start back sailing/cruising but that doesn't seem to be in the cards.So for as much or less to lose 1 subscriber,I will bid you a due, unsubscribe and wish you all the best
please review Amel boats & multi-hulls, thanks
Merry Christmas Tim! So are you getting us a sy for xmas??! Hint hint
Bristol!!!!!
If I had lots of money I'd go for the Island Packet
Why don’t they make this with a bow workshop/pantry/storage. Most people are going to use it for that anyway.
What are your thoughts on getting insurance for boats over 20 years old, never mind 40+? With marinas and customs/immigration in some countries now, you have to have insurance just to get in or get hauled out.
@LadyKSailing
Жыл бұрын
It actually isn't as hard as some people make it out to be. My boat is 42 and Statefarm had no issues with a survey. It is estimated that some 10-12000 people are out there cruising at any given time and most of them have insurance on older boats

Bene .
Cool boat. My question is, how hard is getting insurance on a boat this old
@LadyKSailing
Жыл бұрын
Not as hard as you might think. State Farm insures mine and it's a 1980. They say at any given time 10-12,000 people are out there cruising and many on older boats with insurance. It's not reinventing the wheel or anything.

We have a 1984 Holman 52 and have not been able to get insurance due to the age - Boats US and Progressive (and a couple of others) turned us down, despite a clean survey. We have not tried State Farm though, and I understand they are willing to insure older boats.
473 for me.
Hey Tim, what kind of boat would you prefer for the Great Lakes?

Oooo thats a loaded question because I like racing. I am going to say C&C 35
@jackwalby6257

Almost anything shown on this channel will work for the lakes. Back to the indented use. Cruising, Day sailing, racing, blah, blah. What combination?? That said a performance cruiser of almost any brand works. Draft of no more of than 6' is definitely the goal. The C&C 35 definitely a good idea. C&C 115 is a personal favorite. Speed and comfort. But Beneteau, Catalina are equally at home
Did you change mics or something? The sounds a bit off. Great content as usual though! I'll upgrade from my Pearson 23 eventually.

@@donavonlarney IDK. I have never sailed on one and opinions of those that have seem to vary greatly. They are on my "to be checked out" list. It was a CE-A rated vessel but was downgraded to CE-B. So, no, you really shouldn't cross an ocean with it but anything up to 200 miles off shore is within certification.
All of those boats are overpriced. Been looking in CA and all the boats are high. My fav boat at this price point currently listed on YW is the Hylas 51.
Man, reality is your reality. When..if I buy another sailboat, I’m hiring you. Thank you. Great education and reality!
The 53'er is just a little big for a lot of my favorite marinas and I'm a little whore for Island packet especially the 35' but I'll put up with a 42' if someone would give me one lol. The But the Benito is the cats meow so if I had the money I'd get the Benito but my boat budget is 10G so that not going to happen>.
