When will Hollywood realize that none of us fans are asking for a remake/reboot of good, classic movies? Why is it so hard to come up with something original? 🤦♀️🙄
@geophrian
6 ай бұрын
When audiences stop going to them and actually show up for original films? We can blame Hollywood all we like but it doesn't change the fact that audiences prefer known franchises over new ideas. Similar to how chain restaurants do better than mom-n-pop restaurants. With the franchise we get what we expect even if what we expect is mediocrity. With new/original films we're taking a risk and while they can be much better, they can also be much, much worse. As an indie filmmaker myself, it can be disheartening that relatively few people take chances on outside-the-mainstream films but I totally understand why they don't.

Nothing is ever “original” nowadays. Every movie has at least a few aspects/tropes from another movie. The most original movies are often considered contrived and overly complicated. Plus original movies, unless a big director is involved, it’s damn near impossible to get a big budget signed off. Even WITH a big director it’s hard sometimes. The real question is why don’t big studios make horror movies to offset their losses? A decently made one is guaranteed to make a profit. Which is why Blumhouses model is so ingenious.

@@geophriansad but true. Indie films are actually the reason I found out that Robert Pattinson was actually a good actor. After seeing a few of his works outside of Twilight I told people he was good and was met with laughs. Now everyone I told has caught up. It’s a shame because indie movies have a lot more heart and let the actors actually shine through. It’s not just needless CGI and crappy dialogue.

Exorcists first half was pretty good. It all went downhill when Ellen’s character got physically introduced. It would have been better to have her little TV interview as more of an Easter egg and have an actual exorcist perform the exorcism using Catholicism. Plus take out those 2 god awful speeches. Just that would elevate the movie so much more because the twist was actually pretty good as well.

I'm surprised The Flash wasn't on here and not at number 1. It disappeared from theaters in like 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything good about it. I wouldn't be surprised if it was so bad that people have completely forgotten about it. To be honest I had to check to see if it actually came out 2022 and that was why it was left off. The movie I think that was underrated or not appreciated was Blue Beetle. It's a pretty serviceable movie and the cast was solid. It seemed like a good starting point for Xolo Maridueña to get into movies. I have hopes to see him more often, he is really talented and think he has a chance.

I thought the Flash was okay! Not great but okay. It wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. I think the drop off was due to the fact everyone knew Gunn was going to move in a different direction so if you did like anything in this movie it's one and done. I also believe if the Flash was recast it probably would have done better. I agree with you on Blue Beetle it was pretty good and I enjoyed it. Gunn said the Blue Beetle will return so I have high hopes for the character.

@@hughjakeman5296 No, I'm afraid with or without the cloud of controversy, it was a really bad movie. Ezra Miller lacks the charisma to be a lead. That embarrassing opening with Flash juggling CGI babies that look worse than Breaking Dawn. The movie's shameless attempt to replicate Spider-Man: No Way Home, yet not committing entirely to the idea and lacking any understanding of why any of it worked. Plus the climax with the pitiful attempt at fanservice with parade of hideous deepfakes. I'll cut some slack by saying any scene with a Batman was more likely to be good than not, but those scenes are often chopped up with cringe. Sorry, I went back to negative thoughts.

The Flash was one of those "not great, not terrible" kind of films. I agree with others that Ezra Miller's personal failings made people want to hate it or to see it fail, but judging it outside of that context, it was just sort of mediocre - and there are plenty of other superheros genre films that are worse. If they squeeze only 1 more thing out of The Flash as a character, maybe just a Peacemaker cameos where he has inadvertently caused Col. Flagg to not die in the events of The Suicide Squad (which can set him up as a Peacemaker antagonist).

My take on Expendables 4 was that they were trying and hoping to extend the franchise even though Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Antonio Banderas were too advanced in age to do action movies like this anymore. At least Jason Statham was still young enough to do this movie, so they had to introduce younger characters as sidekicks. However, they whiffed on this with 50 Cent, Megan Fox, and a couple who had no chemistry on screen. This may have worked better with Jason Momoa, John Cena, and Emily Blunt, but they probably cost too much to cast.

The Assassin movie sounds like it could be a Plan 9 situation. Willis retires because of his health problems then someone shows up with "the last footage of Bruce Willis" and they find a way to make a movie around it.
Retribution could have been a great movie in the right person's hands.. The original from Spain was fantastic and the South Korean version might have even outdone the original but the American one lacked any of the suspense and drama of the two that came before it.

Peter Pan and Wendy might deserve the top spot on your list. It was filmed in my home province of Newfoundland. I was so excited to see this film. And it was a legit 1 out of 10. And the titular role - woof. That lead actor sure was, well, a minority. Diversity casting at its worst.

Worst for me this year im gonna say is 5 nights at freddy's Was such a dull movie... not scary and matthew lillard really needed more screen time Underrated im gonna say is either the flash, or the creator. And The Expendables....how in God's good name do you have a film featuring Jason Statham, Iko Uwais and Tony Jaa not deliver ONE seriously enjoyable fight?! "It had no reason to exist and it failed harder than any on this list" You kinda answered your own question, as neither of that means it's a bad movie. The 4th one was just as unnecessary, but this one at least brought a bit of the atmosphere of the older ones back, by, for example, making the Nazis the antagonist again, etc. It was also a smart move to make age and things changing the subject (!) of the movie (and make the thing Indy's searching for symbolically fit into that theme, like the third one made the grail a symbol for his relationship with his father, instead of that trashy alien stuff, which was just a bit too ridiculous by comparison), rather than trying to ignore it like the 4th one did, making it all the more distracting in the process...

I think I was wise to stay away from all of these films. It was a pretty "meh" year for the films I did watch. Of what I watched, I enjoyed "Saw X" the most. I saw "The Flash", "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania", "Guardians of the Galaxy V 3", "Shazam: Fury of the Gods", and "The Marvels". I didn't hate any of them, but I didn't think any of them were epic. The worst superhero film I saw this year was "Wakanda Forever", but only because I missed it in 2022 when it was in theaters. That's easily the worst MCU film, and is almost as bad as "Inhumans". I actually enjoyed "The Flash". "The Marvels" should have been a better film than what we got. There is a decent enough plot in there, buried under some garbage, but I'm at a loss to figure out how this film serves the greater MCU (except for the post credit scenes). Even a phase two stinker like "Thor: The Dark World" introduced the reality stone. It's almost like "The Marvels" was made by women, with women, for women... and the women went to see "Barbie" instead.
