SPACE SWEEPERS REVIEW
• SPACE SWEEPERS Review ...
I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!
Here are the best sci fi movies on Netflix right now. This list of 20 Netflix sci fi movies includes some great hidden gem movies on Netflix like Mirage and Elizabeth Harvest, as well as classic sci fi movies like A Clockwork Orange and Total Recall. I've even included some 2021 Netflix Movies like Outside the Wire and Space Sweepers. Not only are these some of the best science fiction movies currently on Netflix, they're simply among the absolute best movies on Netflix right now.
Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.
Thanks for watching!

Just wondering if you've ever seen Brotherhood of the Wolf? It's one of my favorite everything movies, much like Total Recall has a bit of everything. Martial arts, Secret Societies, a Monster, some sort of Revolution, a bit of body horror and if that weren't enough Incestuous behavior from brother to sister. I may not do it justice but it's just an amazing movie that I never hear anyone talking about.

@Donny Boshoff I agree 100%. I usually don’t like movies with overpowered characters (ex. Superman, Neo in the Matrix sequels, Rey in Star Wars) because too much power often equals low stakes, which is boring. I think Luc Besson struck a good balance by making Lucy pay a high price for her abilities, which kept me engaged and rooting for her.

My only complaint is the group of people who thought it was a documentary. We get questions on Quora all the time….. What could we do if we used all of our brain?
Elizabeth Harvest is a great little hidden gem. Looks like a drama or possibly a thriller, then becomes a Sci fi flick. Love when films bend genres.

Thank you for such a great presentation. The way you gave out plot information without spoilers was perfect. I particularly liked that you pointed out weaknesses as well as praising specific aspects of the movies. A job well done, sir.
Midnight Special is definitely up there as my favorite movie on your list. Michael Shannon , IMHO, is one of the most underrated actors of our current generation. I remember watching Superman, and only realized a few years later that he played General Zod.

Dude's been killing it since Boardwalk Empire, with great performances in The Shape of Water, Nocturnal Animals, and so many others. His portrayals are becoming iconic at this point, and he always gets overlooked when it comes to the big awards.
I'm a sci-fi hound from the good old days, and I agree with your number one and number two picks. You did a nice job on this list. All good wishes. Of course I'm subscribed.
I read Anthony Burgess book of Clockwork Orange and when the movie came out it was narrated and spoken in the same way with the colors and the violence. Perfect.

Then I systematically watch with a giant grin as I no longer have to sift through a bunch of crap to find gold. Keep up the amazing work!
I was surprised how good Spectral was. It's usually underated or forgotten, good to see it farely high on the list.
The Witch must be one of the best action/sci-fi movies i have watched past few years. It freaking ROCKS!!! From the how the story line is build and progressing to special effects is top notch imo. You cant miss this title 😱
I almost forgot how much I liked "Total Recall". Keep'em coming!
Saw I-Boy a while back, really enjoyed it. Also liked Outside the Wire and Prospect. Looking forward to the others!
Thanks for this list Darren! I really REALLY enjoyed Code 8 after watching it from your suggestion. It was also cool to see it filmed in my home town of Toronto. Also cool to see some scenes filmed near the government housing complex I grew up in lol. Thanks again for your amazing content.
Great list. We love your commentary. We've watch most of them and will definitely watch the others too.
Total Recall was one of the great movie surprises - I never saw a trailer for it and was blown away. Good pick. The Skyline Trilogy are excellent.
Wow, I just watched Mirage based on this recommendation & I absolutely loved it. Lots of twists & turns, but the very end scene made it for me. Pan’s Labyrinth is one of my all time favourite films, so any foreign film this gripping is right up my street. From David in the UK, thanks!

Hardcore Henry... LOVED IT!!! absolutely one of a kind. Thanks for the recommendation!
The Endless is astonishing. There is some kind of Kubrick's touch I've never seen in other movies. It's one of my favorite movies of the last decade. Moorread and Justin Wilson are the bests. It's a clever movie in every sense of the word. The connection with a another movie of their own is also brilliantly done.

Hi dvd as usual great movie picks i think my favourite movie from your list would be project power, jamie foxx is just great as the dad /lookin for his daughter.keep up the great work.
Thanks for the list ☀️
A really great list and it reminds me I really need to crawl out from under my TV series binging rock and start watching some movies again. I am a bit confused of the top spots being taken by some top notch classics while the rest seems like 2010+ flicks. Still 100% thumbs up from me.
I've seen many of these and loved them. Thanks, now I have a few more to watch! Oh, and just FYI about A Clockwork Orange, Kubrick didn't put in the end written by Anthony Burgess. The infamous Chapter 21 that really made the book. If you want to know how, you'll have to read it. The American editions of the book cut it out when published, Kubrick when asked, said he didn't have the English version and probably wouldn't have put it in his adaptation.
As usual, thank you so much for all of your hard work Darren, much appreciated

The witch Holy cow. I've already watched the 2nd half twice. Hard hitting unfiltered pure action there. Keep those reviews coming. I find so many movies through this channel.
Mr. Van Damme has hit the nail on the head with these recommendations. I have watched ALL these movies (I'm a sci-fi nut) and I myself would have put these movies exactly where he puts them (If I was to put a top20 sci-fi list myself). Hey Darren. We don't always agree but on this particular list, you have knocked it right out of the park. Keep up the good work. And again... All the very best to you and yours from Bonny Scotland.
I was lucky enough to see Hardcore Henry in the theater and it was incredible to watch on the big screen. Watch it if you can.
Loved the twist in Extinction. As for Total Recall, just bow down to the supreme "lower" budget rollercoaster sci fi movie of ALL time :)
Man this channel is so much better than turning to IMDB or rotten tomatoes to find a good movie. Love the honest unbiased picks.
Midnight Special to me is the Star Man sequel I always wanted.
I think Anon could be a borderline pick for this list. It could be considered a sci fi detective movie because of its near-future neural network set up. Everyone is hooked into a centralized network where some people can directly share other's experiences through their stored memories. Some authorities can do it without permission to aid criminal investigations. Surveillance state themes emerge.
Project Power ..... there was no mention of the young lady named Dominique Fishback who plays Robin. She is the backbone of this movie and an interesting character that is a strong and confident street wise young lady with some serious skills and talents. This movie is pretty much all about her and memorable because of her.
Man you were so spot on with many of these IMHO. so good
The Call. Korean horror with sci-fi premise. I wasn’t expecting much but it surprised me. Deserves more recognition.

A Clockwork Orange actually got a "Best Picture" nomination in a very crowded field......as in "The Golden Age Of Film".
Hardcore Henry driving the motorcycle through the van at 25:41 is easily one of the most exciting stunts I’ve ever seen.
Sharon stone was unbelievable in 1990...absolutely amazing.
The foot chase in Hardcore Henry has to be one of the best.
The Witch!! Loved it!! Great tip!

Thanks for the suggestions. I prefer sci-fi, comedy, and time travel movies so these picks will join my ever-shrinking list of must-see films. Ever-shrinking because I watch a lot of movies due to the COVID social restrictions and the never-ending wait for an available vaccine injection to save the day that most of us must endure before we can return to the REAL world. 😆 Therefore, my cue never really has a chance to grow beyond a handful of must-see movies ( I have dozens of lesser need to see films that require me to have a certain mood like horror or dramas). Like many of you, I have watched more movies during 2020 than I did the entire previous decade. I'm retired and single so I don't socialize very often. That could be very depressing if not for having a big screen TV and a great sound system to give me a cinema-like experience with every film. I also have a spectacular music studio too that keeps me exploring my music. So, self-isolation or mandated-isolation be damned! I shall endure! That's sad or uplifting depending on how you choose to define it. Without a doubt though, Netflix, Disney Plus, and Prime Video have improved my sanity. 😎

As a film buff he must know that hes wrong about North Korea not having movies...they did Bulsara (sp?) which is a Godzilla rip-off where the real life story is more interesting than the film as apparently the director was South Korean who was kidnapped
As always, great list! I have watched 17 of the twenty films you suggested and we agree pretty closely in the rankings. The only one with which I disagree is A Clockwork Orange (a Stanley Kubrick classic!). Not that it isn’t entertaining, but that it is included in a Sci Fi film ranking. Although it does show a dystopian future, to me it doesn’t feel much like a Sci Fi movie. Perhaps I have watched too many Star Wars type films and have lost perspective on what constitutes a Sci Fi film-sorry. Keep up the great work~GG

i saw it on the big screen at a University of Melbourne theatre around 1983/84, i would never call it a Sci-Fi either. i haven't watched it since, as it freaked me the hell out, 20 years ago i came out as transgender (after 20 years of repressing), and thinking back now i think the brainwashing part was what scared me the most, it might be time to rewatch.
Agree w your take on Extinction for sure. I think when Netflix tries to cram movies into less than 1-5-2 hours that’s what can happen.
_"I AM MOTHER"_ Was actually a surprisingly good movie. It can be a bit slow from time to time. However, as the story unfolds.... oh yeah! (Spectral was a pretty big let down - really cheezy!)
I am Mother was AMAZING, but I loved it so much because you think you hack what’s going on and find yourself changing your hypothesis several times as it does on and even several times in the final 15 minutes. I can’t think of a movie thst had me changing my hypothesis so many times.
Thanks for recommending Elizabeth Harvest. I really enjoyed it.
