My interesting fun fact to add to this: There was actually a message from Alex Hirsch saying “Gravity Falls will return” in the credits of Gideon Rises. For the longest time I thought I was misremembering this because I never heard it when I watched the episode again. Turns out the message was only played once during the first airing of the episode! Wonder what the deal was there?

I heard that they added that in at the last minute. I think it was because Alex originally was too exhausted from all the work it took to make season 1, so he didn’t want to continue the show. After it started actually airing and became really popular, his friends convinced him to make another season. So at the time when he started making season 2, I think it was like right before Gideon Rises got released. And he knew that starting season 2 so late would result in a huge hiatus between seasons, since most shows typically would’ve started production on season 2 before the first episode of season 1 got released, to make sure that there wouldn’t be a very long wait in between seasons. So I’m pretty sure that’s why they added that message in there. They knew that majority of the fans would probably watch it right when it originally aired, so they wanted to make sure those fans knew that there was going to be another season eventually, and that episode wasn’t the end. Because otherwise, a lot of people might have forgotten about the show after having to wait so long with no information about season 2.

I think the reason the gnome drawing was made to be less scary was to better sell the misdirection in the episode. They foreshadow that the gnomes are the real culprit when Dipper accidentally opens to that page instead of the zombie page, and it’s played off like “haha that’s silly gnomes aren’t scary”, which wouldn’t have worked as well if the gnomes actually did look menacing. Great video! I didn’t know most of the stuff here, you’ve clearly spent a lot of time following the show and compiling this info.

The fact that there are still so many gravity falls fans after there being a combined total of like 2 minutes of GF stuff in the last three years is quite amazing. It's just a testament to how good of a show it was.

My theory on the Gnome Page is that it wasn't actually an S&P censorship thing but I think it was changed to a more adorable looking Gnome to play up the gag on how rabid they actually were. Basically a subversion of expectation and to highlight how Ford's logs on the journals had some significant gaps in his findings too

33:03 that tweet confirms that he was originally debating the possibility of 3 seasons. Once he started making season 1 and realized how much work it took, that’s when he decided that he was going to limit it to only 2 seasons. So even if he made that decision very early on in the show, that still means that he was originally considering making it 3 seasons long. That’s why people still say that. Because it is in-fact true that the show could’ve possibly been 3 seasons long.

Lord knows this show needed that extra season. It would've of been better paced and characters like wendy and ford would have more things to do

Mable juice could have been great, it just needed gummy dinos with a little extra gelatin to make them harder than gummy worms. It would have worked perfectly.

You really could just throw in some edible glitter too, you can never have too much glitter. Plus the dinos could have been like flavour posters, or if they were super tiny like those balls in bubble tea. Bubble tea but Mable Juice.

10:30 actually! the original version and the one sold today DO have other differences than just the dust covers. I checked my original copy with my new copy to make sure. The older versions have very dark yellow pages while the new version are a lighter cream color. The older versions have a few grammar mistakes that are fixed in the new version. And the biggest change is wording on a couple of pages. Most notably “I confided in F that I was grateful to no longer be traveling alone” is changed into “I confided in F that I was grateful to be traveling with a friend” (also the newer ones have better binding since the first release was known to fall apart in a matter of days to weeks)

The Gnome shown in the released version is Schmebulock. This is explained in A Tale of Two Stans when we see Ford interviewing him to add to the journal.

The fact that the dating sim is good still baffles me 😭 (yes I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve played the it multiple times)

V1 of Journal 3 was also infamous for having binding issues. A lot of fans who got it (myself included) reported that the binding of the book (along the spine) easily gave way within a few weeks. From what I remember it was reprinted with a more sturdy and durable book spine before the NYT accreditation was put on which I was fortunate enough to avail of. So I guess that could be considered Journal 3 V1.2

Read the Dipper Taco Bell story. It’s worse than he makes it out. Thankfully it didn’t ruin the series for me and it’s just a sick fans imagination. I would say I wanna vomit but it reminds me too much of the fanfic.
