The arch Duke Franz Ferdinand affected everyone the most. It was by far the most important assassination in history as it was the spark that led directly to the First World War and the subsequent wars. Think about how the world would have been if the First World War didn't happen. The possibilities are endless. The First World War led directly to the establishment of the USSR, which inspired people such as Mao, Castro and Ho Chi Minh. So if the First World War didn't happen, communism may not have been so strong, which meant that Vietnam may not have been a battle ground in late 20th century. Look at the impact the Vietnam War had on the American Civil Rights movement and thus Martin Luther King. Dr King was a great man. But his assassination whilst vile and sad, did not lead to the deaths of many millions of people worldwide. The assassination of the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand did lead to countless deaths and global changes.

I’m sorry, but I just think there are a few logical errors behind your last sentence. Anything that involves, “Could I have never existed?” is already dealing with the biggest mysteries in philosophy, which are so mind-blowing that you can never be certain of any answer. I’m not sure it follows from Franz Ferdinand’s (hypothetical) survival that you never would’ve existed. I mean, it’s already a mystery to wonder what exactly would constitute “you”. And the fact that we can’t even determine *that* 😂 shows you just how unanswerable all this stuff really is.

On the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand - Gavrilo Princip wasn't sentenced to death, but he died in prison in 1918 about six months before the end of WW1. At the site of the assassination, a memorial was built to Princip by the Yugoslavs. However, it was destroyed during the 1990s Bosnian War by locals who didn't want a memorial to a Serb in the city. A replacement memorial, which is not dedicated to anyone, has been constructed since.

President Kennedy’s assassination affected me the most. I remember it like it happened yesterday. I grew up in Germany and was in high school at the time. It really affected all of Germany. The president had visited Germany just a few months prior to his death. He had given a speech in the recently divided Berlin (the Berlin Wall had been erected 2 years earlier). He declared “Ich bin ein Berliner” to a live audience of thousands of Berlin citizens. He won the hearts of the German people. His death affected Germany, and especially Berlin very deeply. Concerts were stopped, restaurants closed, parties broke up. Crowds gathered where Kennedy had held his speech. I’ll never forget how we couldn’t talk about anything else for days!

My mum worked for Indians in the local corner shop at the time of Indira Gandhi's assassination. They celebrated like it was 1999. she wasn't a loved politician for at least half of the populace of her own country. A sad state of affairs indeed. And a life lesson of things to come probably regarding the political instability of the near and far east.

Jing Ke ... .... the most famous assassin in Chinese history deserves to be high up on the list ... the dramatic nature of the famous assassination attempt was not a dramatisation but a historical account written down by the ancient official chinese historians as an epic chapter of China's history ... As written, the tyrant Qing king Ying Zheng was unstoppable in his ambition of conquering all the smaller nations to become the first emperor to rule the whole of China .... In a desperate attempt to stop the powerful king, Yan kingdom's crown prince Dan, a smart and insightful heir to his cowardly short-sighted father's throne, knew that he had to hack at the head in order to stop the marauding Qing armies's approach ... Prince Dan had been the Qing King's friend since young, but he also knows King Qing well enough to be aware that the Qing King would still absorb his Yan kingdom into his empire despite their friendship. So when Dan had the chance to return to his Yan palace, he immediately secretly sort out the bold wandering swordsman Jing Ke to hatch a plan to get within arm's length of the Qing king to assassinate him. The plan was for Jing Ke and another swordsmman assistant to pretend to be a peace ambassador seeking to present to the king the precious scroll map of the Yan kingdom as a symbolic act of offer for the Yan kingdom to be willingly incorporated into Qing's growing empire .... Knowing the Qing king would be anxious to closely admire the precious map, Jing Ke would unroll the map where a hidden dagger would be exposed at the end for him and his companion ambassador to slash the unsuspecting tyrant's extended neck in one swift stroke .... If things go right, the ingenious strategy, unprecedented in the annals of previous warfares, should rid the world of a great tyrant, on paper that is. However, the audacious plan was met with unexpected bad luck on the day itself. The first bad sign occurred when Jing Ke's assistant ambassador, his crucial fellow assassin, froze and tremble with fear at the entrance to the king's grand hall, Jing Ke had to proceed with the assassination by himself, citing stage fright to explain his assistant's strange behavior, due to the great reputation of the Qing king. The Qing king, still not suspecting anything amiss, delightfully invited Jing Ke to unfurl the scroll map while he closely admires the details of the land he had been wanting to incorporated into his vast vision of empire building. Things went as planned, as the map reveals its last terrains, Jing Ke took the unveiled sharp tool of freedom, grabbed hold of the tyrant's sleeve and brought the sharp blade to the king's throat .... .... where he paused.... instead of slashing the jugular ... This momentary pause was enough for the king to recover from his shock and pull away to escape the imminent danger. The ill fated pause was due to Jing Ke wanting to hold the king hostage, alive, to force him to announce a peace treaty to never attack the neighbouring nation (and I guess, let him, the assassin, leave the palace alive ....for killing the king would certainly mean death for Jing Ke by the king's army and guards) .... as it turns out, much as Jing Ke was a bold fearless swordsman, he was also naive in trying to better the outcome of the original suicidal assassination... The king had with himself a long sword, but was unable to fully unsheath the sword due to its length, as he ran around the hall chased by Jing Ke. At the crucial moment, an official threw a bag of medical supply in Jing Ke's way, he again paused to punch away the bag ... it was at this moment when the king was able to take instruction shouted from the nearby officials to sling his sword to his back and unsheath it fully .... In the blink of an eye, the tide turned as the king came down hard on Jing Ke to instantly amputate a leg off from the body of the great assassin .... The king, seemingly destined by divine will to become the first emperor to rule over the whole of China, would viciously slash Jing Ke another eight times ... As Jing Ke laid before his victor in his bloody mess, he laughed at the king how lucky the bastard was able to live only because he had decided to capture him alive as a hostage. At that last utterance of irony, Jing Ke took his last breath ... it was the breath of regret. Shaken by the near death encounter, but stiffened in his resolve to remove the threats to his ambition, the king of Qing would go on to conquer the rest of China and ascend to become the first emperor of the whole of China .... he would go on to mercilessly try to erase the languages and cultures of the nations he conquered by ordering the destruction of their historical books and literature. As for the prince Dan who hatched the assassination plans, he was betrayed by his own father, King Xi who had his own son decapitated so as to present Dan's head to King Qing hoping to be spared of the tyrant's anger ... Jing Ke would be regarded as a great hero by Chinese people of today ... while the Qing king who would be known as Emperor Qing Shi Huang, would have a mixed reputation both as a tyrant and also a unifier of China's many tribes of people ...

There was also Benigno Aquino, Jr., the opposition leader who spoke out against the regime of Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines. Upon returning to Manila after an extended stay in the U.S. in 1983, he was assassinated upon emerging from the airplane by military personnel supporting Marcos. This would lead to the “Carnation Revolution” which overthrew Marcos and Aquino’s widow, Corazon, becoming the Philippines’ first female President. And there was Anwar Sadat, who lead Egypt and was a major figure in the Israel-Egypt Peace Accords with Menachem Begin and Jimmy Carter in 1978. Together they won the Nobel Peace Prize. Sadat was assassinated in 1981 by extremist militants during a military parade.

Woah there, Indira Gandhi committed genocide on innocent worshippers in the Golden Temple and she tried to kill every baptised Sikh, making her a monster with blood on her hands. The fact that they did this on the day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji's shaheedi makes it even worse. This is the reason why people have not gotten over what happened, hence the saying "Never Forget 1984" is prevalent. To commend indira gandhi is like to commend Hitler. Indira Gandhi is no higher than a pigeon
