20 Minute RV Shower with 2 Gallons of Water | ARV Recycle Shower System

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Join Mike and Marcia (figuratively) as they shower in the B Box using Advanced RV's recycle shower system. The system cleans shower water through a series of filters, reheats it to temperature, and can be used to flush the toilet.
Reminder - B Box 1 is available for sale. Check out all our available units at advanced-rv.com/pre-owned-veh...

    Marcia is a good sport to allow you to film and speak with her on camera while she is showering.The technology is superb and I remember hearing you introduce the concept at the RV Fest two years ago and now it is live. Kudos to Advanced RV for pushing the envelope of technology. This is like being at the New York Worlds Fair in 1964 and seeing new products like a microwave being unveiled and then finding it in our homes a few years later.

    I think the two pressure indications are backwards on the second set of filters. Should be higher pressure (8.7 ish) upstream and lower (6.2 ish) downstream, right?

    I know your company did a lot of research and development for this recirculating shower. If I recall just before or about the same time you introduced the idea of the B-Box you were testing a mock up standing shower at your shop. I’ve searched all KZread all year for people with similar systems. While they all are happy about the length of the showers, they are not thrilled with the amount of labor into cleaning the filters and purging the system over and over again. Most claimed the water pressure drops very quickly indicating the filters are clogged. Does this have to do with their possible schematic/engineering of the system install, quality of filters, or type of soap and shampoo being used???

    There are numerous problems with using these standard filter media that are intended for drinking water, with a recirculating shower design. Bottom line, it's total overkill. Standard paper filters are a poor choice for a system like this. Skin cells and other elements that are in shower water, present a large amount of sub-micron contamination that will quickly clog a filter array, such as the one presented in this video. A better choice would be to only filter the larger sediments, and sterilize the water thoroughly before returning it to the shower head. Commercial soaps are in reality, detergents, and they are full of emulsifier and other stuff that will quickly clog a filter. Use only organic oil based liquid soaps, such as Dr. Bronners. And dilute the soap! 10:1 soap / water.

    @@EcoGreensFarm Thank you I am researching for a future bus build out and had concerns about filtration for a shower loop vs drinking water. Would building in precipitation before the catch tank help with some of the issues of clogging in a multi stage system or would straight up UV for sterilization with large participate filtration be a better option?

    Most builds I’ve seen use 2.5” x 10” filters. A 4.5” filter has over 3X more filter surface - the elements cost $1 more and the housings are $15 more.

You've taken the original shower recycling system I designed for the trailer I towed behind WOMP and showed you for burning man 5 years ago, and as usual, taken things to the next level of engineering and finish. Keep it up, I see a B-Box in my future, especially if you start building on a HD truck chassis that can tow 15K pounds!

  • @JetCityHooligan

    @JetCityHooligan

    Of course it does. That will the the top reason you'll want to change your filters often. Even after "filtering" the water will still be cloudy and contaminated from the chemicals in the soap/shampoo/conditioner and you wont feel as clean after multiple showers without changing the filters.

    This can be as complex or simple as one makes it. Many reports on this recycled water hype are sketchy! There are so many videos all with major gaps that it is hard to analyze this recyclable water feature accurately. Some videos show graphs that expose each part and their order in the system, others hardly cover that crucial ingredient. Some videos show an automated process using ARDUINO controls and electronic check valves, others do it manually. Some systems are tank water heater based while others are tankless. I have come to prefer the tankless approach. 5 main concerns, OVERALL WEIGHT/SPACE/TRIPs/Maintenance/Cost: - optimizing trips to the grid - water weight, - batteries capacity/weight not to be ignored, I have already 200 lbs of LiFePO4 on board, may have to go 100 more! ...invite 2 heavy persons(250 or more) to seat in the back of your car, and see the difference! (mileage, handling, performance) - cost of, and frequency, replacing things that wear, - maintenance I am basing the numbers on servicing 1 person. WATER consumption: People claim one can take up to 9 showers on 3.5 gallons, others are using a 5 gal shower tank, which would come close to bring the count to 14 showers, making it a 2 person weekly satisfaction. Many state that the way to reduce the negatives is to skip showers. Some people claim they only shower once a week! ...while the rest of their family groans if not taking a shower every other day, some of them every day. I am thinking, use a brush and no soaps, or very light liquid soap sparingly used, hardly a solution for a woman's head mop!!! I used to keep my hair long, I know! ...and I do not feel spic and span if I do not wash my hair at each shower. YOU TOOK ONLY 2 SHOWERS AND USED 2 GALLONS ALREADY!? On a 4 gal tank one person could shower daily for 7 days, without over-cycling to a nasty level. ...a safe amount of added chlorite to the water like the water company does, may improve on this performance. so, that's 16 gal a month or 144 lbs of water at start or 48 gal -> 432 lbs(wo!) if wanna reduce trips [once every 3 months]. or 32 gal -> 270 lbs [once every 2 months] One can quickly see, if 2 persons are on board, life gets harder QUICKLY! SANITARY requirement: A couple had the water tested by professionals at a water plant, it shows that it is safe... the water remains within good sanitary levels. (bacterial, Chemicals, etc...) They did not add anything to the water. MAINTENANCE is heavy... There are many reports about the filters clogging up fast and in need of replacing frequently. - Must clean the pre-filter daily, after each(maybe 2) shower(s) ! wondering to place that filter in the shower stall, for quick immediate servicing. - Must clean all other filters weekly - Must flush and sanitize the system weekly - replace all filters every 6 months Don't know the cost of the filters yet... this can get costly fast. So the claim of forever shower is massive hype... as usual, people cannot remain simply real! I think the system is viable if one applies maximum water saving at each shower, no long luxury shower except on occasion. ...and that gives a decent average benefit, while a luxurious experience when feel the need. ...the end.
