Great video! Honestly kind of relaxing watching you do that. Me trying to do that, I would be a big old ball of sweaty stress!

One of the hallmarks of advanced flint knapping is to have a standardized tool kit. Being able to replicate the same type of tool over & over again. However, I have known self taught knappers who let the stone guide them as to what the final form will be. Ya never know... Edit: I have a teeny, tiny arrowhead (point?) that very closely resembles a Palmer Cornernotch, complete with the serrations. That little point is no longer than 1/4". Really. It was made by one of the self taught knappers that I once knew. He used mostly modern tools like nails & files. He also used deer antlers & rock hammers. His favorite material to knap was the bottom of an old 1 gallon glass Round Up jug. The glass is a dark amber & pretty thick. The point he gave me is flint or chert maybe... He named it: The Tick...

I legit enjoy knapping raw texas gravel more than I enjoy obsidian. I dont know if it's my long arms or what but I'm a hard hitter and I break obsidian SO easily.

Ya obsidian sucks. The dust gets everywhere and cuts you everywhere and it’s breaks easy. I find it harder to see the platforms so I have to stop and pay attention better, I just hate it but I like dacite

@@naterodgers5851 True, dacite is pretty nice, still breaks more frequently for me, but basalt is a fun one! Like a slightly less brittle dacite.

it takes time to get good a knapping, and if you live in a state with no knappable rock... your going to pay pay pay out but ass for rock. it is what it is. i lived in maryland my first 4 years of knapping so no rock to speak of. and no states that really had good rock around. Pa. had some Jasper that was very hard to find, but that was about it.

This is very awesome. I am a beginner. I have only been doing it for two or three years could you give me a link of where to get that rock from? I would like to try to use it all I have is some poor obsidian.
