$20 Microphone Vs. $12500 Microphone
Музыка
This week, we compare one of the most classic microphones of all time to a $20 microphone from Amazon. We had some surprising results bruuuuuuuuuhhh
$20 Microphone: amzn.to/2EoqOUt
$12500 Microphone: vintageking.com/akg-c12-multi...
Thanks to Andrew Huang, I was heavily inspired by his video: • $22 MICROPHONE VS $360...
Thanks to Eric Johansson at Revenue Music Group, who both mixed the mic samples and participated in the video!

now you need $12 500 headphones to hear the difference
@Fede101kill3r7
3 жыл бұрын
@@Newlife-ol6pk Not exactly, you can hear the difference pretty clearly with 300-500 usd headphones and from my experience hearing this comparison with an hd800 the difference is clear, the reduced harshness and increased detail that the higher priced microphone pulls is incredible, the 20 usd microphone sounds too good for its price but it falls short in audio resolution as it supposed to. There will be diminishing returns so probably after 300usd the differences will be more in how the sound is captured(warmer-cooler, etc). Hearing the differences require trained ears as seeing differences in color calibrated displays required trained eyes, most people will say they are equal because they are used to filtered and low quality media.

@@rigezz5596 At the beginning, the trip for renting the microphone
These cheap microphones contain 1/2" decent electret capsule and a preamplifier which was incorrectly designed. The preamplifier causes distortion, but when a couple of resistors are replaced, these distortions disappear. It also has no damper on the capsule mount which resonates at ~500Hz which creates undesired peaks in frequency response. Removing plastic mount and replacing it with the foam rubber mount makes it OK. The remaining resonances are from the metal grille and can be reduced by placing rubber rings in the middle. After that, the microphone would compare more favorably to more expensive models. The only problem is the background noise which is ~30dB vs ~18dB on perfect condenser microphones. With that, you can get 70-80dB dynamic range recording voice and instruments, and maybe more for drums and trumpets. The max SPL is ~120dB on both (with fixed preamp). But BTW, mine was $12.

It's always how you intend to use your gear. The cheap Sennheiser and other AKG's are good for the price, but when you really want to work with.. .huh huh... no. In this example, we don't know the outboard and how it's set up, that would be important to know. Most of the listeners are listening through their pc speakers, that are mostly rubbish. The take where recorded in a cabin, that generally aren't the greatest solution for a splendid sound. In general, all those super cheap microphones have metallic sybillant, with a good chunk of noise and a medium puking all other the place. The C12 is a tool for professionnals, it's reliable, proven, and it's the reason for this price. But please. Remember that you have two extremes in the microphone world. A lot of microphones in the 600 to 1'800$ range are pretty serious stuff if you want to work.

@@gorillanbombyoza I can weigh in on this actually. Basically, if people pay you to provide them with content, you (in United States Copyright law) lose the right to it as it becomes a "Work for Hire" situation. This grants the purchaser the rights, and even if you state it isn't a work for hire they can win in court. There are also cases where you can sign over the rights and licensing so your creation is out of your hands. I have seen cases on KZread where an artist and the work he made for someone else ended up getting him in trouble when he used it on his own channel for a different project, however, he was definitely morally in the right.

Dude I could hear the difference in my galaxy s8 phone speaker, it's okay to not be able to tell quality nuances if you are not a part of its creation
I love how we have the same name, Joel.
I just watched the video in our music class today where the 12.5k microphone came from.
For someone who wants to get started with singing , $20 mic is more than enough 👍

Honestly, if the cheaper mic had a slightly thicker diaphragm, I feel that would potentially fix the distortion issue. Aside from that, that was pretty damn cool. I've just recently gotten into school for audio recording, and we kind of blew through the mic section, so getting to actually sit down and listen to "Cheaper vs. Expensive" videos and opinions has shown me a clear correlation. Sometimes, it just depends on the person recording, and the person being recorded. Do I see it finding its way into professional studios? Potentially. Do I feel it might serve a better purpose for up-and-coming podcasters and talk-show KZreadrs? Somewhat. At the end of the day, you use whatever mic you have for whatever purpose you deem necessary, and I'm not gonna lie; I'm strongly inclined to buy the Neewer now.
You won me with the knob gag. Quality content.
imagine buying the 12500$ mic and watching this vid and finding out its legit the same quality as a 20$ mic imagine

The difference comes from the DATA the microphone picks up. When you add EQ, compression, reverb, delays and ect to the raw audio file, THAT'S when you understand the difference. I didn't understand this until I started getting into music.

Bro I listened to this with Sennheisers Momentums True Wireless 2 (some of the best sounding earbuds you can buy without going into audiophile or $1k plus) and I can hear a difference but I could not notice it without paying attention or knowing these two were different mics. I'm honestly impressed with what you can get for that low.
Me: WOW The $20 microphone sounds exactly like the expensive microphone. Roomie: The cheap microphone had a some background noise. Me: Yea Yea Yea thats totally what i think.

Just to know, that 20$ mic needs phantom 48v but is connected trhu 3.5mm so if u use a cannon to cannon cable (u will need an interface) most of the sound will vanish
The problem with the vid is the fact that the mic probably costs a lot bc of it's rarity and history and not because of it's quality compared to most modern microphones. Anyways, I still loved the video and thought it was great! Amazing vocals Roomie! 👌👍🔥

But think about it, when someone goes to a studio to record a song, the goal is to broadcast it to the world through the radio, TV, KZread, Spotify, whatever. The target audience is never going to have equipment like that, so there's not much of a point of having it at that kind of quality. Either way you could hear the difference between these microphones. The cheap one started to sound harsh and distort during the loud parts. I think if you compared a 2K microphone compared to the 12.5K one you'd probably have a hard time finding a difference in quality. This video is basically the cheapest of the cheapest vs extremely expensive.

I have the same mic too. It sounds pretty nice for $20, but I really preffer to buy an expensive one because my voice doesn´t sound deeper enough as in real life (And because of the white noise xD). But not gonna lie, if somebody wants to buy it, I totally recommend it. Obviously it´s necessary to have a Phantom Power :p

@Cascamfamilia
3 жыл бұрын
@@sadiqayan For gaming... Mmmm maybe. If it's not a problem to have the mic in your front, yeah. But actually for gaming, the gaming headsets mic works just fine. Have in count that you must put the mic on an arm or something to hold it so you can keep it away from the keyboard and mouse but close to your mouth. Also you must connect the mic with a Phantom Power so it can works properly (That means more cables). If you want the mic just for gaming, I wouldn't recommend it, it's an unnecessary spend (Literally a headset mic is just fine for gaming). But if you also want to transmit what you're playing on livestream, then yes, I really recommend to buy it. High quality for a very low price.
Joel at the start: Beth is sleeping :) Joel midway through: *literally screaming into mikes*

I have the Neewer 700 and 800, both are good, but the problem I have is turning the gain down low enough, they're very sensitive. I turned the gain up, and sang quiet background parts, and the NW800 even picked up bleed from my headphones. I sing loudly usually, and it's just a matter of getting the gain down low enough so that they don't clip, which is where the distortion is coming from. Set the gain properly, and they're great imo!
At least you can say that you have a epic cool old microphone from the past right
