$20 First Class Bus (to Philippines Coldest City) 🇵🇭
I was fed up of Manila's scorching heat so I boarded a bus out of town. My destination being the coldest city in the Philippines.
Baguio is known as the 'Summer Capital' of the Philippines and is very popular with domestic tourists looking for a break from the roasting hot weather in their own province.
There are direct buses running between Manila and Baguio very frequently, but there are different classes with different levels of comfort. Given that it was to be a 6 hour journey (depending on the traffic) I made sure to book the highest category of bus, 'First Class'.
There are many different bus companies in Luzon but I don't think there's much difference between them in terms of service and comfort. I chose to go with Victory Liner.
At the Victory Liner bus station in Pasay there's a dedicated waiting room for first class passenger. Nothing fancy, just some tea, coffee and a TV, but the main thing is the air conditioning. I was able to sit in comfort until the bus was ready to depart.
The first class bus has a 1-2 seating arrangement, so it's possible to book a seat alone without someone next to you. That's perfect for someone like me travelling solo. You don't want to be touching arms with a stranger for 6 hours like on some budget airline.
It didn't even take 6 hours though. The bus took ages to get out of Manila, due to the ridiculous traffic, but after that the roads were clear and we arrived in Baguio much sooner than I expected.
I thought the ticket price of 1,049 PHP ($18.63) was worth it for all the space I had, but other than that there's nothing fancy about the bus. No individual entertainment units, charging ports, anything like that.
The Victory Liner terminal in Baguio is located directly opposite a Jollibee restaurant so the first thing I did in Baguio was enjoy a delicious Double Yumburger.
I then checked in to the Orchard Hotel. It was the best hotel I could find in the central area of Baguio. There were some better hotels but they were in more remote areas.
My room at Orchard Hotel was hardly perfect, but the view from the balcony was awesome.
Getting close to sunset, I decided to visit the huge hangout area in the centre of Baguio called Burnham Park. There were loads of vendors selling ice cream and other treats, and a huge lake where people were enjoying boat rides.
So after enjoying a "special" strawberry ice cream, that I've no idea what was so special about it, I jumped on a pontoon and did a lap of the lake.
As the sun set, I got myself another sweet treat, a special "Ice Scramble" which is something like a Halo-halo and headed back to my hotel to enjoy a room service massage. Life is good.

When I travel to different cities and islands, I always inquire with locals or seasoned expats first thing, even before booking a room. I traveled to Pundaquet a 4 hour ride from Manila and rented a boat for 12 hours for just 3000 pesos. Great price and killed the Tuna 🐟!
I really just love how friendly everyone is in the Philippines, thank u Dale for showing me these amazing cultures
Hi Dale, The taxis in Baguio or the White Cabs are the safest and most honest Taxis here in the Philippines. You don't have to haggle with them, once you take it just tell them the location and they would always use the meter which is much cheaper than Grab. Hope you enjoyed the stay.

Agree! With The taxi drivers in Baguio, there is no haggling of prices, they use their meters- and when they drop you off, they would even give you every bit of change you are entitled to (rather than assuming it is their tip). I have always felt safe taking taxis in Baguio.

There’s no need to worry about hailing a taxi in Baguio since the driver’s here are most known for being honest drivers compared to Manila taxi drivers. They will return your change even if it’s just 1 peso. That’s also based on my own experience. Anyways, have a great trip around Baguio, Dale.
you should go to batanes dale. Batanes is the northernmost province of the philippines, which explains its cold, breezy climate. it's a common thing to hear them say that the terrain is akin to that of New Zealand, Ireland, or the Scottish Highlands.

Not far from Baguio (a UNESCO creative city) is sagada where the hanging coffins are to be found, the mummies of the ancient Philippines and Batad or Banaue where the renowned rice terraces was located, a unesco world heritage marvel. There are rugged trekking sites and water falls also around the area. Near Baguio is La Union refered to as ELYU derived from L U and its known for surfing particularly San Juan. Further north is Vigan City which is a Unesco world heritage city and it's like Cartagena Colombia. You'll enjoy the ilocano cuisines too. In Ilocos provinces you'll find unesco world heritage churches too similar to San Agustin Church in Intramuros. Then if you still wish to visit another gem theres Batanes and see Sabtang another heritage town built by the natives known as the ybatans. They have interesting cuisines too. Theres an international airport in Laoag City and i think the airport in Baguio City is now operational again.
