$20 DIY DSLR Shoulder Rig

Фильм және анимация

Using some easy-to-get supplies, Ryan shows you how you can make your own DIY shoulder rig for under $20!
And yes, we know this has been made plenty of times... But our build is about doing it as cheap, simple and effective as possible. We also chose to warp the pipe instead of cutting it so that it will fit perfectly to the body.

    If you take athletic tape and wrap the thermal piping cover foam with it, it cuts down on not only it moving, but it also cuts down any noise the cover would make and keeps it in place (I used it to pad a DIY Ring Light I made a while ago).

    I took two long planks and two short planks that I just screwed together, then I took sawed off chair legs that I screw onto the front to make handles, then for comfort I taped on foam in the back. It costed me zero dollars to make since I used old pieces of wood lying around.

    I liked the back grip part of it so you could just let it hang there when you got tired. Also, for anyone who's getting into DIY film gear using PVC, I would really suggest PVC cutters, super cheap and makes cutting really smooth and clean.

    A tripod has three legs (hence "tri") and a a shoulder mount goes on your shoulder (hence shoulder). Generally you will use a tripod whenever possible, but shoulder mounts are very useful for moving shots that you cannot get on a tripod easily.

    You know if you already have a tripod you can use that as a shoulder rig. Just close all the legs and stretch the neck to its longest. Attach the camera to the tripod and pan it to look vertically upwards. Lock the panning and tilting in the tripod put it on your shoulder and your ready to go ;)

    Why not use pipe sections, T-pieces and 90 degree PVC bends. That killes the pain of heat bending. You can also try it all out for feel and then glue those together. Have some extra T-joints on strategic places to put on repositionalable handgrips.

    Here: anony(DOT)ws(SLASH)image(SLASH)kYq0 And remember that this was made in under 30 minutes after thinking of the idea and everything was made out of left over materials. I used some old planks, old chair legs, some left over foam from a broken sheet, I cut out some pieces and made three "pillows" out of them, I had some paint left from painting a wall and finally a little bit of black tape that I had lying around. The way you use it is by putting your head in the middle.

  • @131rocketman
    @131rocketman12 жыл бұрын

    @EnviroAda probably so. but that means more pieces to buy which means more money. granted it would not cost alot of money. but when you buy pvc pipes, like he had, you usually have to get it at like.. 10 foot sections so its probably cheaper just to bend it

    Ryan when you want to apply a curve to a pvc pipe, before o heat it up, fill it with sand, and you will get a perfect curve, and the PVC pipe won't bend like that at 3:01. Vote up so everyone can see it!
