I’m only twelve and everyone says I’m to young to know what I want my job to be but I love animals so much. All animals not just dogs and cats! I think rats and spiders and snakes are cute too! And pigs and cows and horses. You are so right in saying that most people think of small animal vets. I didn’t used to want to be a vet because I couldn’t bear the thought of surgery and amputation. But now I know there are other things you can do being a vet. I just found your channel and love it SO much I subscribed right away! Thank you for inspiring me to become a vet and helping me understand what it means to be a vet.

The plan is to go in the Marines, have them pay for college, and do farrier and vet tech school. I love my horses so much and I'd be honored to take care of them and other peoples horses

Hi, I know this is a bit late, but I'm going to be a senior high student this school year and I'm taking STEM as my strand. I am planning on taking veterinary medicine as my course in college because I really want to work in this field. I've been thinking about this since sophomore year in junior high school, but my family are discouraging me on taking this course. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Edit: Also, I am interested in the field you are currently in residence for during the making of this video. Because ever since I started highschool I am already exposed to researches, be it physical science or life science, since I am a part of a Science and Technology Program. And I have always been inspired by my seniors or even other students that have been part of a scientific, medical breakthroughs. This video sure helps a lot, so thank you.

A female sloth is there right now and a couple larger snapping turtles. I also know there’s quite a few snakes there, also there are a few other little guys and gals in there who like to hide. And there’s a boatload of butterflies in the butterflies display are.

Hi Lonewolf. Thanks for watching. You can work as a zoo veterinarian with a 4 year veterinary degree. If you would like to become board certified as an expert in the field you can also complete a residency (+2-3) years but it's not mandatory. A Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine means you are qualified to practice on multiple species. For example, in One week I may work with 10 different species. That's one of the joys of the profession.

Hi Angela As a veterinarian you can work with multiple species, as many as you feel comfortable with. For specialized training, most vets choose one or two areas because of the time it takes. For example, my specialty is lab animal medicine so I am completing a 3 year residency to become board certified as an expert in the field. But I still work in general practice.

I kind of agree, although I'm not too bothered about working with dairy cows, or beef cows in a free range setting where they're not in tiny cages. I can't imagine working on lab animals. It just seems so cruel and inhumane😢

@@kaylastarr3822 Yeahh, but even if it the animal products are classified as free-range, at the end of the day, animals still get killed unnecessarily.

@@janesmith4798 you're probably right and it is really awful, but I guess I'm not vegan or vegetarian so I feel OK at the idea of working in the beef/dairy industry as long as I don't have to see then slaughtered. But that could be hypocritical- I couldn't bear seeing them slaughtered myself as I love animals, but am still wiling to eat meat from a store.

This is why I changed my mind completely in considering lab animal studies. It’s cruel in a way even though it can end up saving lots of animals/people.
