The Predator looked completely different when Van Damme was playing it. He left and they changed the whole design to what it is now. Its was an absolute blessing.

Will Smith as Neo would not have worked, his swaggering arrogance could not play well as that character. I think he might have been good in Django Unchained, but the nuance of Jamie Foxx was superb, and the fun, respectful chemistry between he and Christoph Waltz was incredible

I understood Van Damme was just too short for the part - Arnold is about 6' 2" and Van Damme Around 5' 9" - so he was replaced by hall who stands at 7' 1".

I remember reading a long time ago that the former Disney ceo, Ike perlmutter, said it didn’t matter that don cheadle replaced Terrance Howard because all “black people look alike” and so the audience wouldn’t even notice. He wasn’t directly involved in marvel much after this.

I thought Van Damme dropped out of Predator because all the other actors were >6 feet. Van Damme I believe is 5’9”. An Alien who’s shorter isn’t very intimidating.

Jean-Claude Van Damme was not fired or quit. He was negotiated to leave because the whole ninja crab like alien was not going to work out against a bunch of tall muscle men. HOWEVER ... he was still in contract and to this day gets a paycheck when ever the movie is played or sold etc. He said he has no regrets. I seen the footage. It looks crazy. He was tiny and jumping around. Peter hall was the better choice obviously.
