Covert narcissists use a long term significant other, spouse and their children as a cover or a "family front" facade which allows them to carry on their deceitful ways behind the scenes. They are either cheating on you and getting away with it while totally depriving you of any intimacy or a variation of similar deceit.

Very true.. mine would be on his phone 24/7. I would wake up at 3a.m and hed have his back to me going through all social media. But when giving you the silent treatment they act like they've never looked at their phone for days.

This lady KNOWS what she is talking about. I spent three years with one of these THINGS. I might as well have lived in a horror movie. Scary scary stuff. The creepy stare, disappearing acts, constantly on the mobile, bringing third parties into the environment who she was involved with, pathological liar. Even now, four years later I cannot look at a woman and keep a straight face.

When my father died , I ended up with his effects the typical stuff , clothes , books , tools , but amongst them was boxes and boxes of media content. I wondered why my father video taped every movie he could , he had hundreds of VHS , DVD , cassettes, I wondered why someone would feel the need to record so much information when it is so easy to find them online or at a rental store. Then it came to me after studying this subject for so long , this was his library of perceptions. Perceptions he used to buttress his personas. They gave him what he lacked , a personality and a conscience.

Now he has walked out of the house and I have walked out of his life! Never ever will I make the mistake of taking him back. NEVER! He never deserved me.

OH MY GOD! “How to win friends & Influence people” is my covert narc dad’s favorite book ever. It gives him information he needs to build his false/fake image so he can act like an pure innocent angel. I’m shocked about the accuracy 😂😂😂

100% - I am 40 and didn’t even come across this term till around the end of November 21 - the more I explored it the more I realized what it was I had in my experience - for me this was a covert manipulator - the whole time he needed me more than I ever needed him and he can never be alone never, it’s so obvious to me now - I was in love with an illusional version of someone who didn’t exist - when the deceit came to light and I couldn’t ignore what my intuition was screaming at me from day one - the physical and mental side effects were major - panic attacks, disassociation to name a couple. I am one month no contact and three months since complete separation - and I have finally started eating and sleeping again. I never thought that would be me caught up in such an extreme toxic cycle - it was one of the worse experiences in my life I am so grateful I have no commitments to him, I am so sorry for the other women (with other stories ) I am so grateful I am still here - despite the numerous times my self-worth only valued myself as being better off dead. I wish anyone going through the trauma, on a journey post the trauma an infinite love and light that grows deep into you and enables you to grow to an infinite place of abundance you deserve 🌈

You are not alone, dear. We are all here to help each other and you have us. I did not get educated until 3 years ago and I will be turning 50 in May! Come March 7th, I'd have been through 15 years of this abuse but thank God we've been separated 2 years now. I almost feel very sorry for his younger, vulnerable supplies because they do not have the wisdom that we get with age so they are unconsciously ignorant of the torture chamber ahead of them! No amount of warning them will make them leave until they themselves are hurt and just maybe, things may begin to sink in. Remember, we were young and naive too and we fell victim to the same abuse, just like the other supplies are now. It's almost criminal! 😕 Sending love, prayers and light to you and everyone here. They seem to be about 1 in 3 people and includes neighbors,coworkers etc. Not sure why so many these experts act as if it’s just a partnership issue.

My ex girlfriend I believe has this problem. She never took accountability, always lied. She drove by me when I was running, she glared at me in the car. It was eerie.

Very true details. My husband has all traits of a covert passive aggressive narcissist. I left him March 2019. He is also having extramarital affairs. I'm working on a 2nd divorce from him.

My mother was a Covert and people thought she was so sweet & shy. I was abused most of my life by her. When she died, I found so much of my childhood things "that I lost," which she stole. I found a bunch of my toys broken in the attic it must of been a fit of rage. She made my life hell! But people thought she was great! I was the one that got the nasty side of her!

Totally agree, surround yourself with people who love and stay away from the darkness they had you in, TG i'am out after 28yrs years of abuse and i'am FREE.

I was seeing this guy for 2 years until I realized he was a covert Narc . He was extremely dismissive and avoidant so thought it was his attachment style . I then found out he had girlfriend and he had been with her for 8 months . Her and I communicated and we dropped him the same day after talking for long hours . Je was seducing her using my words and my thoughts !!!! It's was so weird !! I had already heard him uses some of my phrases on a podcast as if it came from him and when I had asked him why he was doing that he had gone into a narc rage and I had cut him off the 2 weeks because I thought he had been disrespectful during his rage .He then swept me back in slowly lowering my boundaries. When I told him I need everything about the gf and that she knew everything too , he blamed everything on me and had no remorse what so ever. It was just really scary but I'm glad I'm out of this. He really is a dark person but on social media he really has the image of a good and cool dude. I had to block him because it's annoying to see 😩😩😩.

How did you find out about the other girl? Wow 2 yrs with him and he had no problem doing this to you? I am in a similar situation- dating for 8 months and wanted to break up with him 4 months in because he would completely disappear on weekends. He wouldn’t let me and he was kissing my face all over saying I was the one and God sent a sign ( in my head I let him talk, I thought it was strange but still I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt ) fast forward to the 8th month and now I found he was sending flowers to this woman with 2 small kids and he may have had her before he started with me?? He pretends to be such a good guy, but I had no idea about covert narcissism. Once when I was watching tv with him Mel Gibson was on and he turns to me and says Mel cheated and left his wife for that other woman, why do people cheat, why do people do those things ? I said I guessed they were selfish. Fast forward to this week and now I feel like he’s a total manipulative person. What does he do? He tells people what he thinks they want to hear so they believe in him while he goes off to do the exact opposite??? This behavior was so strange. He also has a 19 yr old son and he’s been divorced for 15 yrs. I had asked him if maybe he should date someone with kids like him and not someone single with no kids because I require more time from him and a divorced woman with kids wouldn’t. He said I was crazy and he did t want to date anyone with kids. Then I find out this month that he had been dating a woman with kids behind my back all along and was lying to me about being exclusive with me. I had also asked him if he wanted to see other people- again he said No! That he wanted to be exclusive and date only me. This behavior is so strange, it seems that whatever comes out of his mouth is a lie and he goes and does the complete opposite of what he says. Complete deception and manipulation. I feel bad that I was deceived by his good guy persona, but maybe better to find out now as opposed to later.

@@chrisnapoli8386 my friend saw a comment from a girl on his IG and she saw that she commented every pic and followed him on all of his plateforms and he followed her too so she told me and then I followed her and 2 min after I had sent the request he messaged me asking me why I sent her a request. Covert narcissists cannot improvised and he did not expect that to happen so because doing and saying things that made me doubt and were suspicious. He blocked me everywhere and told me he didn't want to see me anymore and that it was MY fault because he still wanted to see me . Later that day I messaged the other woman and told her and showed her so many screenshots . As a social worker she immediately told me "Sarah, this is a narcissist" I just thought he had avoidance issues but no it was more sinister that that ! So I told him I knew everything and so did she and he lost it told me it was my fault not minding my business...showed no empathy or remorse and never ever contacted the other woman ...it was so unbelievable to me . A normal person would apologize and feel terrible but he just blamed me and used tactics such as leveling etc...ughhh so disgusting . Thank God I was not in love because I can't love anyone who can't be emotionally intimate so I just blocked him and moved one but Holy shit it was such a lesson.

It's so crazy it gives me chills and if you look on his IG he looks like such a good guy you know ? It's sooooo annoying !!! Lol

This is so dead-on accurate the one that I was caught up with for 4 and 1/2 years that ended 3 months ago had that mean glare stare and then I turn around she smile she did it on Skype to like face smile changes and that mean glare and I always wondered why ☹️

I was shocked over an year ago when I've heard his mother to describe him as friendly person to someone else. He was friendly yes, for the people who didn't know. I was treated like garbage, and he treated known people same way. He even said loudly to his mother how much of a whore she was. I was shocked, but didn't leave at that time. Soon year without him, on vacation.

I am married to a covert Narcissist. She walked out on me to live with friends. I am sure she hates me with a passion. I've known her for 30 years. We were married for 2 years when she walked out. It took 60 seconds. She discarded me. I've now gone no contact.

What reading a self-help does for a narc is it gives them info on how to behave-being an empty shell of a person, some fill up on this good normal stuff so they can continue their ACT. It's all an act!

You don’t have to be married or in a common law relationship to be abused by Narcissist. They are your neighbors your co wirkers etc. They do t discriminate when it comes to harrasing? Everyone who’s not like them is a Target. Look at how Karen and Kevin types go after anyone and anything that isn’t the same narcissistic belief they have.we let these tyoes set our policy and look at what that’s led to. Divide,poverty,racism,hate…

She has one boytoy that helps her steal all the things I need to leave her! Car keys. Car title, had house put in her name only. Through me out. Judge said, she lied to the Court about me! And I was free to go home a week later...

Have a question! Please, answer. Since the narcissist does tend to become in ways like the persons they are around, or like, at least how they behave...is there anyway they can model someone and be better and eventually actually be better? Background for this question is that I know of one narc for 8 yrs and since he has been around a really good person who works for him, for about 5 yrs I have seen some positive changes. Just wondering on comments, what does anyone think?

Narcissists adjust their personality to fit in. If this person is a covert or codependent they are likely willing to adjust to match the person or persons they are trying to impress or model. Will it last? If it benefits them long term it will but it doesn't mean that they have really changed. It just means they have found a good person to imitate which will be beneficial for those around them. The Co-dependent Narcissist is the most pliable of the bunch as it is all about who they are dependent on. If it's a decent person it means the Codependent Narcissist will be decent or at least try to be.

You were paranoid because your ex was going around badmouthing you to everyone he met.
