Brilliant stuff. Such a good listen. I look forward to when you further delve into the failings of British comedy during a time when it could've been the last word in truth for the masses. It's penchant for sticking the boot in on a thoroughly decent human being in Jeremy, only to receive 2 pieces of silver and a lick of the boot has only shown it up for what it is. Thank the gods for people like yourself, Alexei. From one Scouser to another. Great work.

George Lansbury wasn't deposed. The party voted against disarmament as it looked clearer what was going to happen within a few years and he resigned as leader. It's well known that his granddaughter is Angela Lansbury but less well known that his grandson was Oliver Postgate, the genius behind Bagpuss, The Clangers and Ivor The Engine.

Loving these podcasts. Since lockdown I've been taking part in an international lefty podcast recording and office hours ran by award winning comedy writer David Feldman. I ran an idea past the other punters about names for a new party. How about we rebrand communism as communityism and socialism as societyism first? It seems those old terms post cold war have been tarnished so much its created the biggest stumbling block to having good guys run stuff.

Hello, just listened to this and I'm sorry my YT channel name is so hard to pronounce, my name is actually Martha and the name is because I do Martial Arts stuff on my channel. I practice a style of Kung Fu called Choy Li Fut and Hung Sing is a traditional name for Choy Li Fut schools, I put them together because I thought it would work better for searching. It was a bit of a mistake because I subsequently learned that Hung Sing Choy Li Fut is a name for a particular branch of Choy Li Fut but it was a bit late to change the channel name by that time. I do have that in my lineage, but my lineage is really messed up so it's not really accurate. I put Lady in because I didn't want to use my real name because I've had a few problems with people and my name isn't well known in Martial Arts anyway, and because I want to be clear to people in Martial Arts that I am a woman. There is a problem with women being sort of erased and I know of at least one who has been really quite ashamed of being a woman. She used to troll me using just the name Choy Li Fut and appeared to be a man, but eventually I worked out who she was. She subsequently started trolling me using an obviously female gendered name on Instagram instead, and now uses that to post about women doing Martial Arts so I think I made progress there. I do get that the BBC is not a monolith, my history of being involved in activism kind of made me not like the BBC that much anyway. I was one of those who mostly listened to Radio 4 but was getting fed up with Woman's Hour and the programmes where a woman spent half an hour telling us we really should not use the word mansplaining because it was very upsetting for teenage boys, and another telling us that Millenials are immature because they buy houses later and get married later and have children later, ignoring the fact that their material circumstances are somewhat different these days. I find it hard to switch on for individual programmes and never really got into using the iPlayer, and actually haven't bought a TV license for years because I don't watch TV anyway. I'm not going to judge others for continuing to consume BBC content or for creating it, it's just not something I can really manage any more.

Alexei you're absolutely right about comedians of the past 20 years (perhaps longer), and only in the past 10 months or so have I begun to realise how much of a coward I've been for so long as well. It's funny but it took some good friends and listening to African Americans during the BLM protests last year to wake me up. I pretended to not support Corbyn out of cowardice of what other people thought, I didn't want to speak up about my views because I was worried about what other people thought. Centrism is a lie, cowardice I'm ashamed to say I was a part of, and I say this less than a day after I witnessed a modern day Munich Putsch, an attempt by fascists in the US trying to stage a coup after years of complacency over the right going further and further right, and instead of reacting the so called left-wing parties move along with them because they've now decided this is what the people want, this is the 'will of democracy'. It's time to take the gloves off, we can be the nice party, but we need to be aggressive in our nicety, nice has to apply to everyone, and that's why we can't simply tolerate anti-democratic extremists in our midst any longer.

During my entire life, I can honestly say I only ever voted Labour once. Growing up in a socialist household under Foot (Michael NOT repression from a right wing regime....oh hang on can I mean BOTH of these things?) Then the Kinnock years , I was then briefly emboldened when John Smith came along and my voting life began but sadly he left us too soon for fucking Tony Blair and it is to my eternal shame that I blundered into a voting booth fuel by D ream cool Britannia and a wealth of media hyper and voted for a Blair government after the immensely pleasurable demise of Thatcher( only once mind! They only fooled me for a very short while, but fool me they did!) Eventually I created my own political party the PRF Preston Revolutionary Front....each time I went to the polls I would draw in my box add my name and vote for myself, it didn't really take off but it made me feel much better for my earlier errors.....I only really got empassiioned again under JC but that was always going to end in tears! The need persists. If only Mr Corbyn would give up on Labour as the utterly lost cause it is, and start a new Socialist Party. I think membership would swell rapidly and British politics would receive the grand slam bomb up its rear end that it so richly deserves. But then the media would never let any mention of said Party pass without going on about utterly bogus anti-semitism claims, and would certainly not allow debates about fairness, inequality, economic coercion and rampant corruption (having run interference for said issues for the last 25+ years).

BBC. BBC Four is also part of the problem: it is stuffed full of reactionary history programmes, masquerading as "documentaries" (a word that connotes seriousness and professionalism). The series fronted by a posh woman with a blond bob who works at Hampton Court consists in 50 parts entitled "Isn't The British Monarchy Absolutely Marvellous" is particularly nauseating. So the problem goes beyond the News Division which, as you rightly say, is colonised by fucking Tories and who have used it to further the aims of the Conservative party, not least by producing a seemingly unlimited number of lies and smears about Jeremy Corbyn for over four years.

Transition from left wing views to right wing views isn't necessarliy selling out. It's synonymous with just growing old and is considered perfectly natural, mainly because the elderly have very little stamina and upper body strength - both of which are pre-requisites if you want to defend your stuff in the teeth of a society that really fancies the contents of your allotment when all the imported Egyptian strawberries are stuck in a container at Felixstowe. Let's not rule that out when evaluating a politician's motives. Getting all right wing and generally pissed off with everything and everybody is probably just a manifestation of the realisation that the Tragedy of the Commons holds sway and that nobody is going to give you their last Malteser without demanding a blowjob first.
