    The problem with Moog is the presets aren't very good. To extract the beautiful sonic glory of the ONE you have to create the sounds yourself. I've found that i've been able to create some very classic sounding patches myself but of course you have to have an understanding of how they were made in the first place.

    Honestly, its not much different from other synths, brand new uptodate ones or old vintage ones. The Prophet's patches not that great either. just as most other synths. It's all up to the user to design interesting sounds or buy some killer patches from people that have the imagination (and time) learning to use the synth. Most synths I have owned first shines when you start making sounds yourself. If I had the money for the Prophet 10 or Moog One 8 to use live without any outboard gear, I'd go for the Moog as it have much more possibilities to sound "big" without any extra effects. But then again .. if you have the money to even considder a Moog One, you propably have enough to buy what ever extra effect gear you want 😅 Both are amazing synths if you can use them to their full potential .. just like most other keyboards. If you can only play very simple stuff or don't have the knowledge to program them why bother... Not all the best keyboard gear is gonna make you a better player 🙂

    It a great video idea but these are very different beasts from the two leading manufacturers. The Prophet 5\10 is a very well considered reissue of an old, very well regarded classic musical instrument. It is so well created in fact that the 5 (or 10) sits beautifully next to the 6. Hence it being mono. It’s all about it’s legitimacy as a re-issue. The Moog One however is an execution of modern leading edge analogue technology, producing probably the most powerful analogue poly to date. An exceptional synth. Astonishing in fact. So, “Studio centrepiece” wise, if someone’s going to pull the trigger on one of these it very much depends on the type of thing they do and where their interests lie. If it’s recreating those classic sounds, the 10 all day long. If it’s to get the widest palette, maybe for a sound designer pushing the limit, then the One. They are so different in fact, you can justify both. They can co exist. Both utterly superb companies.

I love the the Prophet 5/10, but I still don’t know if I prefer those sounds over the Prophet 6 sounds. I think you may feel the same if you get a chance to play one. But the Moog one is something else entirely. If you can afford to save up for one and have that and the Prophet 6, or just have the Moog One by itself I think you would be set for life. Haha. Prophet 6 is amazing for performing tho if you happen to gig. The Moog one and the Prophet 5/10 is too big to drag around. :)

    @@KeithTrigwell Same here. The Prophet-6 has been underrated by a lot of people since its launch because it isn't a Prophet-5. It has beautiful tone. I think the Prophet-10 here sounds just a bit different from the 6 but not so very much. For me here the P10 kills the Moog One but maybe it's just the patch programming. The first few M1 sounds are very mundane until 12:30 where the M1 Sounds a bit like the OB-6.

    Prophet is a reissue; we all have its sound somewhere in our head. The Moog One is a new machine, thought to be used today by today's musicians creating today's music. I don't feel you can compare them just because they are very expensive flag ships. They are two different beasts. The Moog One has a very wide range of sounds and will fit any serious sound designer needs. The P10 is speaking to our heart more than to our brain. It sounded perfect a long ago, it sounds perfect today because more than being fabulous on itself it has the sound of our memories. Both machines are magical and prove their creators are genius. So ... if you have the money for one you've good for both, buy both and live long and prosper ! :-) The question is "if you can take only one, which one you'll take ?". If you think with your heart, it will be the P10, if you think with your brain, it will be the M1 !

    I have both. Moog one is my all time fav synth next to the my Electric Blue Voyager. You can do whatever you want with the one. Its a complete “modern” synth but if you wanna get it vintage sounding you can program it to behave that way. The depth of how you can program it to sound like whatever you’re picturing is the magic about it. The versatility is amazing when you start adding beautiful eventide effects to it. The most fun synth to record with. That’s for sure. The Prophet 10 has that 80’s horror movie sound tho which is my thing. It’s does the vintage John Carpenter thing right out the box. And I LOVE the presets. It does all the old school 80’s sounds you heard on all those classic records. Great to perform and records with.

    @TheRustyPeppers I have Both. Imo, what you can program on the Moog one is so out there and you can continually find new sounds the more time you spend on it. It feels never ending as far as the sounds that can come out of it. You can even make it sound vintage as well. Prophet 10 has that glorious Vintage sound, but for me the Moog one would be the one If I could only keep one. Ha ;)

  • @christopherklein4203

    @christopherklein4203

    3 жыл бұрын

    @TheRustyPeppers Hey, if that’s the feeling you get when you play it, than maybe it’s not for you. Every time I turn it on I understand exactly why it costs what it does after I’ve created something magical with it. I can create a patch in a few minutes (not an hour) that’s unlike anything I’ve ever heard before. No other synth I own I get that same feeling. Almost every time I try to creating a sound from my mind, I end up creating something awesome that I didn’t mean to create. The patches I’ve been able to make are some of my favorite sounds I’ve ever created on any synth. Now, don’t get me wrong, Prophet 10 does some amazing vintage sounds, but I still don’t even know if I like the sounds better than what I can get out of my Prophet 6 to be honest. And I payed 2500 for my Prophet 6 which is considerably less than my Prophet 10. And I really don’t think you can say any well made synth just “sounds better” than any other high quality synth. That’s a completely subjective thing. What I believe you’re paying for with the Moog one is the million things it can do. The eventide effects of comes with, all the mods, the sound design aspect you can fall into so easily, even the keys are my fav from any synth I own. It’s pretty much a perfect synth and whether you’re wanting a fat bass patch, pad sounds, or creepy horror music stuff for a soundtrack it can do it all. It’s the one synth where I feel like you’ll continually evolve with it as years go by. And it still has that Moog sound. Now I don’t know if it’s perfect for everyone. Maybe it’s too overwhelming and it can do too much for some musicians. But yeah, I play my Moog One considerably more than my Prophet 10. I record so much with it, it’s ridiculous. Even my GF likes to play the Moog one over my other synths and she loves the stock patches a lot. And that’s usually how I judge these synths. How much time do I spend on them and how much fun do I have playing them. So there’s that! 👍

    I have heard the Moog One sounds fantastic. But those were not the factory patches. I do thing the raw sound of the P10 is beefier than the One though. When I’ve sat with the One and started from init I remember feeling like it didn’t have as much beef as I’d like. The Minimoog right next to it sounded glorious. The P10 has that presence right from the start. Of course the One is vastly more complex than the P10. But I’m finding as I grow as a synthesist and player I don’t need all the bells and whistles and would rather something that just sounds amazing.

    I had the money to get a Moog One when they first came out then saw the rollout troubles they had and ended up getting a bunch of much needed new wiring and effects, 2 smaller synths (Deep Mind and Prologue) and a Tascam porta-studio for Dawless moments, all for the same money. When the Prophet 10 was announced I jumped all over that because it’s legendary. But I still have a slot open to get a Moog One, unless Tom Oberheim announces a flagship poly before then.

    When I got my Moog One, I nearly sent it straight back as I thought I had a dud. The preset volumes vary massively and as you walk through them, if they have effects you get some weird noise in the buffer from the previous sound. It was positioned as a platform to build on, yet all they’ve done is fix all the initial bugs. However, it’s a chameleon of a synth and can sound like anything. I’m fortunate to also have a Prophet 5 Rev 4. I wouldn’t trade either of them and with the announcement today of Moog Asheville closing I’m glad I’ve got a US built Moog. The One is more feature rich, but many might not feel a need for many of those if they just want mostly traditional sounds out of it. The Prophet-10 (I have a Prophet ‘08 PE…not Rev2) is just trying to be an updated Prophet-5/10 of old, which is something I think a lot more people would prefer. How much more would the Prophet-10 be with another OSC, multiple display screens and a lot of other stuff the One has? I think price is comparable, considering what you’re getting, though I think I’d prefer it if Moog did just an updated Memorymoog for less over the One.

Whether I could ever justify spending that sort of money on the Moog One... I dunno. I just picked up a Modal 002 for less than half what the Prophet 10 cost, never mind the Moog, and I think I prefer it over both of the above.
