Beau défilé et bel hommage à l'empereur et à son armée. Bonaparte a donné à la France et aux français prestige, gloire et fierté ce que personne n'a réussi autant avant lui et après lui.

Makes you wonder why so many young lads wanted to join up. Those uniforms are amazing.

Austro-Hungarian, Prussian and Russ had nothing but conscription. Those three countries were based on the serf economy, which was just another name for slavery. England had conscription, but had volunteers due to the disgusting class system, which kept the peasants very, very poor. There was no freedom in the monarchies. France had mainly volunteers, fighting to keep their magnificent nation free from the dead hand and selfishness of monarchy. Yes, there was resort to conscription, but it was based on a class system, which is not the same as the English, but on the age of the people being called up. However, even when you were in the year, you still didn't go, unless you were drawn in the lottery. Yes, the uniforms were amazing, although there were three mistakes in amongst the French army. Mind you, it was great to see that they did have the sergents carrying their muskets on the correct arm. Unlike most re-enactment units.

Funny you should say that, the Napoleonic re-enactments started in the U.K. with the Sabre Society and in 1979 the Napoleonic Association. The 21eme De Ligne was one unit that was recreated from then in the U.K. and ironically enough was the biggest single regiment going for many a year. Waterloo in 1995 saw over 100 in the ranks (an eclectic mix of Brits, Aussies, Kiwis, Yanks, Canucks, Belgians, Dutch and yes even Frenchmen too! I personally annoyed the KGL lights as I knocked down the gates of their la Haye Sainte prop). Mounted guard at Malmaison on many occasions and that one group spawned so many others it’s unreal.

Notre armée d'Empire avait quand même beaucoup d'allure ! Les cantinières sont un peu ridicules, dommage
