I find it very interesting how you bring up feeling depressed slightly about how the natural resources are cared for down there being from Missouri myself. My wife and I just got back from a trip down there in New Orleans and the Lafitte area. I honestly think it’s because you get used to the area your in and how it’s cared for. I say that because my wife and I loved how the people in Lafitte really seem to care for and about the community, and how it’s taken care of compared to the majority of communities like it here in Missouri. I’m happy you enjoyed the trip you had up here but trust me there’s a lot of the trashy messy stuff up here too.

Well down in Hopedale a lot of folks almost don’t even want there to be land anymore, because its easier to get to the “swimps” if everything becomes open water lol! Ohhh so many complaints from the locals about the Mississippi River sediment diversion thats meant to save the place from becoming Atlantis. Plenty of rubber tires and trash laying dumped around everywhere to float on when it finally sinks, though. I almost stepped on a whole kitchen knife thrown on the ground at Shell Beach when I was down there fishing last week. I used to pick up all the trash at my fishing spots but every time i would go back it would be right back to how it was. Don’t even bother anymore. I make sure to pack all MY trash out down to the smallest clipping of monofilament line, though.

Hello 👋 Jared, when I was a youngin and my grandparents would take us to a river and dip net sea run smelt, it was the same thing. Dragging the net against the current was hard work, but the pay off was 5 gallon buckets full of smelt from 10 to 16 inches. They are a real soft meat fish, but amazing for smoking

I totally agree with you and the disregard folks have for the environment. Here in southwest Louisiana it’s the same in our ditches, beer cans, bottles, fast food trash, you name it. It needs to be enforced and taught to our children. It is sad.

The best thing you can do is trust God and let him lead you. I find that if I do the things that I like to do, even if there are times when support seems very distant, there will always be people that can relate to you. Jared, stay humble, and do what you like, keeping God first in your life. Relating to Him is more important than anything else.

Looks like it would be more effective to slam the net down at the very opening of the tile and hold it in place instead of scooping. That way the current forces the shrimp into the back of the net and helps keep them there. Then check the net every minute or two.
