Your initial reaction to the Bicycles just goes to show how well-crafted they are. You were 100% sure that it was a $200 deck. And I like that analogy you gave. The Virtuoso deck is top-of-the-line, but you've always got Ol' Reliable Bicycles if you need them. I'm a sucker for the back design on the Virt deck, though.

I like the Bicycle cards. But they cost 20$ here. The 2$ decks here are sticky (great for building pyramids ) and break or peel after after a single card game session.

Tally Ho is a nice step up from Bicycle. They seem to last longer and faro better - much smoother edges. Nicer backs for flourishing too. As for Virtuoso decks - the more recent ones are of course much cheaper so keep an eye out for new releases every year or so. I believe they might also have a better stock than the original black & red one. As a novice, I find Virts decks more easy to flourish.

Just my opinion but, unless you're doing "Cardistry", it's best to do magic with cards people are familiar with. Bicycles are what laypeople buy probably 90% of the time, so they really don't question them. I understand if someone does question your $200 deck, then you can just hand them out for examination. But, honestly, who's going to do that ? Risking the cards being dropped or being returned sticky or wet ? Not likely. Point being, the expensive deck is probably the way to go for flourishes, etc. But the most practical cards are the common ones. Even this guy was fooled, because he has great card chops and could probably do "miracles" with even a Dollar Tree deck. He made the Bikes do what he wanted. So, the real difference is $198.

Lol, when he thought the bicycles where the virts I cracked up so badly. This is a good video to show people who think "Every deck of cards that has a special design is better than the normal plain bicycles" ;) I still do buy decks that have nice designs though because they're good for flourishes and just being a collector item.

People have to realize that the deck wasn't always THIS expensive, lol. Pretty much all of the virtuoso decks are 14-15 dollars during the first few months. Just like anything else, once it becomes limited, it'll become more and more pricey because although there are magicians and cardists, there are also card collectors.

That's not really how that works. Plenty of limited things are cheaper than they were initially. Why? Nobody cares. Inflated values on limited editions only happens when the limited editions continue to be desired. Also, the clown in front of the camera needed to realize that instead of clickbaiting.

The big question is: Is the Virt Deck worth $198.00 more? My impression is that the answer's "NO!" Unless someone can prove an OBJECTIVE SIDE-BY-SIDE STAT COMPARISION, I'd stick with TALLY-HOs, which are 2x as good as Regular Bikes. They cost $1 more but are worth it. Save the $198.00 to buy a TON of more Magic stuff, or pay your rent, insurance, food, utilities, etc.

Like he said, it all depends on what you need it for. I have never ran into a situation where I would need any deck of card that is worth more than $5. But if you're a professional magician working a sold out crowd where a screw-up could hurt your reputation and your dream, you might want to spend a little more. Not just playing cards, in almost all products, there are points where the prices jump exponentially just for a tiny increase in performance. Those products are meant for very small portions of the population that need it...or people with money to burn.

I can feel the difference between regular Standard Bicycle cards and certain other decks, and the way I feel the difference is usually when I start a riffle shuffle how "bendy" the whole deck feels. For instance the Memento Mori's bend is alot softer on my right index finger, but doing the same thing to the Bike's gets a little bit too much pressure.

I'm gonna get a setup once I start getting a little more income in very soon. I've been watching a lot of magic trick videos of you, Spidey, Blaine, Dynamo, Derren Brown, Shin and many others I've gone over. I've loved magic since a kid. #90sKid. Hehe. Born in '89. Many consider you the best magician. I love the puzzle stuff and so forth! Best wishes on the newest show too, or your first, I'm not sure because I'm not too familiar with the work you've already done. But I hope we see more of that here! Cheers from the Philippines! I'm originally from infamous Miami, FL, USA, and happily left but I've been here for over 3 years and later this year I seek to live in Jordan with a good online friend I've had for years. Hehe. Cheers mate!

  • @jeugene807

@@BestAnimeFreak Hmm, bad analogy, it's more like washing a car and immediately driving it through muddy terrain to get to your destination. The point op makes is it still technically fulfilled its use, whereas as a collector item would simply have been stared at. Going back to the analogy, the man got to his destination by ruining the wash, albeit wasting 12 bucks on a car wash, whereas would have gotten nowhere had he just admired the 12 dollar work. However, what op fails to also understand is that some things are meant to be admired.
