Brilliant video go Gunns Backhoe 🎉

I got a Backhoe a couple years ago and I had the same problems of using the front loader had the steepest learning curve. You tube was my best friend, namely Stanly dirt monkey does a how to use a skid steer. The biggest thing I learned was what you are having a problem with, how to push light material around nicely, either topsoil or gravel. The key is to back drag with the bucket flat on the ground. This will take off high spots and fill in low spots (if there is extra material you are dragging) beautifully. If you tip the bucket up (front edge up) while going backwards, it will pick up material without gouging like when you go forwards. If you tip down, you will leave behind a little (don't need to tip down hardly at all or you will lose all your material rather quickly). You are essentially using the back edge of the bucket as the working edge and it will blow your mind as to how well this technique works. Trying to grade with the front edge of the bucket is almost useless. The other tip I learned was if you are adding a fairly thick layer of material, dump piles of what you think you will need as you back out of the work area, once you are ready to grade it all out, fill your bucket with material so when you run into the material going forwards you are not picking anything up but pushing the pile and you will automatically be grading as you move forwards through all your piles. although I have not had the chance to use this tecknich very often since this was used for topsoild and a backhoe isn't really good at that without compacting. but it would work for a big parking lot. Hopefully this helps you. I always love watching your videos.

You made light work of that. I had the privilege of spending a few days with a semi retired owner operator who had been on backhoes his entire life. Quite an eyeopener in seeing what a seriously versatile tool these are or rather can be.

Wish I had video of my old man on the 3CX. The things he could do with the front bucket was eyeopening. I am currently on a 3CX Contractor Pro brand new at the moment, lovely bit of kit. Has to be servos tho

Haha, didn't realise he was there. The customer was impressed with how I went about it too. And they provided plenty of tea, so it was good all round.

Really very interesting video. Very informative about the backhoe, a machine supposed very versatile but very difficult to master. That you call shingle is some gravel apparently.

I just done a same job for my mate and used my 3cx sitemaster and im not a fan of tilt rotator i found they can be a tad fast on the tilt as had one on the 3cx i got also it was eating up the hydraulic oil quite a bit so removed it also with the backhoe loader its a does everything a excavator does and more it makes life alot easier

Turn on smooth ride work great for grading that

A tiltrotaher would make that boom so much more versatile you could scrape those edges without leaving the cab, and would rejuice the amount of time lost repoditioning the machine but they are a pricey opinion though 😂😅

You're not wrong, and I have looked into it. The price is expensive, but its actually the geometry that I worry about. These backhoe's have been perfected over the years and I'm not sure a tiltrotator would work very well with the extra build height and weight that comes with it. Plus would the Scandinavian shaped buckets clam up in the front shovel that well? I don't know... The investigation continues

I'm not so sure about that, even our huddigs have much better characteristics without the tilty on, I think a tiltrotator, especially a double hitch one, Is asking for trouble.

Did you ever manage to sell your 4 in 1 bucket for the Avant?
