As someone the right side of my degree I can tell you it took me six years when it should’ve been four and the grade was a 2:2 when I wanted a 1:1. And I am fine. I’m a few years into a job I didn’t think I wanted doing something more specific than what my degree was and making half of it immediately redundant. I’ve made it my own, made friends had laughs and stupid stories of things I’ve fucked up along the way. I’m going to get a promotion (I’ve been told it’ll be soon) into an area I’ve kinda fallen in love with the work with two levels of bosses above me who I respect and who respect me (so far of course). None of this means plain sailing will continue but going from dark days fearing my third year repeating would be my last in Covid to now feels worlds apart and watching others go through similar experiences makes me emotional for the hurt I know you feel. All I can say is the message at the end of this song is really the lesson no one can earnestly teach you in college, but you need to see that the feelings you have right now are okay. Piece by piece give yourself the chance to pick yourself up and try again. In the words of another Irish artist, Samuel Beckett: “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

I'm a college instructor and I approve so much of this song. Thank you for the lovely melody and the heartfelt emotions you've filled this song with. Edit: I've seen how heavy major subjects pile on work for the students and I prefer in-class activities rather than lots of coursework. I want students to learn and not get burnt out.

From an older viewpoint, You have touched upon a mental truth that most people never discover. I find myself almost void of anxiety. Because the majority or the pressure we receive from peers is mostly useless. Your peers can't ever know what would make you truly happy. They want to HELP you be happy, to help you succeed. But the reality of it all is they will miss the mark. If only by a little bit its still not for you. Life is about finding peace in whatever form you chose. Some chose religion, some choose a lack of confrontation, some choose silence or something else. You have time, but don't put your happiness and peace off. Or you will become upset with yourself for wasting such a precious resource you could have made more of. I find your voice peaceful and I really enjoy it. I will listen to this a few more times and enjoy my time listening to the wonder and curiosity of what the world will bring for you in the future. But for the moment, have some of my gratitude for helping me inadvertently find a small slice of peace. I really hope you find some yourself.

I'm two years into college and I still feel this every single day. I feel lost even though I have a destination in mind, and I try hard and try to keep my head high, but it's so difficult because I feel like I can't do it like everybody else can. It is so incredibly uplifting to hear you sing about these thoughts and worries and remind everyone we just hafta breathe.

Been hearing this song a lot lately. I gotta say, as someone about a month and a half away from graduating college, it gets better but in a lot of ways it stays the same. You lock yourself out a lot less, you meet a lot of new people, you stop talking to a lot of old people, you still feel frazzled and like you're falling behind, but you make some solid friends and they're all in the same boat as you.

My college experience was different from this one. It involved lots of screaming and violence fueled into a chaotic 13 weeks. Plus, don't forget the 45-minute bus ride for a 5 min trip with your head in your lap the entire time late at night. The only way you could enter this "college" I went to.

I love how the first part before the first chorus is just one run-on sentence, likely to show stress. But then the second part is much less of a run-on sentence, meaning less stress, or more likely getting better at masking the stress And then the end is like realizing that the stress doesn’t go away, but you can still do things that make it less hard

I need this as a soundtrack in a movie. Concept: A young girl spends all her life trying to meet the expectations of everyone around her and closing on to the end of the movie she's at her breaking point, but realizes shes just started college, shes young and has time in her hands. The music plays in the background and you see her making friends, enemies, having happy and sad times, but you can tell she's happy.

I'm ten years out of college and I'm doing just fine man the things I used to worry about are the furthest from my mind because the world is bigger than all that and it took me a while to see that Now there's lots of other things that keep me up in the middle of the night I wake up kind of tired and I wake up kind of sore and I wake up kind of mired by the thought "God I've gotten old" I still don't like breaking rules or doing what I'm told but my eyes are off the ground so i can watch my life as it unfolds And now I'm the one telling me that I'm doing so well I try to trust me, honestly I find it hard to tell If I need work or I need rest I try my best to try my best I tell myself, I say out loud It's fine, I don't have to figure it all out I tend to forget I'm still quite young In a way, this life of mine has only just begun I've got time I've got time I'm ten years out of college With a busy, busy mind There's been plenty of "Collin's" Some were handsome, some were kind My friends tell me I'm crazy Say I take it way too far 'Cause they're off raising families and I'm off traveling so far I'm only ten years out of college And my bedroom's still a mess There's just so much that I want to do That I have not done yet There's just so much that I want to say And far too little breath Oh, my mind it runs so far away It's easy to forget That to everybody else, it looks like I'm doing so well I try to see it, honestly I find it hard to tell If I've done wrong or I've done right I need a good night's sleep tonight They said go out, I said alright past 9 o'clock? Yeah, right I probably should just take it slow I'll be all good But God I know The one thing that's important above everything else Is that I've learned not to put all this heavy pressure on myself I try believe it when I say "If it's meant to happen, I'll get there someday" I'll be fine I've got time I've got time That's where I'm at To be honest Just ten years Ten years out of college

The lyrics alone are still hard hitting, and the melody alone is still beautiful, but it's the fact that she used those specific words, at that specific point in the song, with that melody, which I think makes it so emotionally hard-hitting. It seems like a lot of people had the same experience as us based on how many likes the comment got. As somebody who was 2 days into college back in 1988, and had no ancestors who were college graduates, the line "everybody's telling me that I'm still doing so well" still hits hard all these years later. As I sat there in August of 1988 trying to fall asleep in a dorm room of a prestigious college that all my relatives were so impressed by and assumed I would do well at, all I could think of was how alone and lost I felt. I hadn't made any friends over those 1st 2 days, didn't see how I was going to, and I couldn't conceive of anyone telling me they wanted to be mine. Thing got better after that, but always in fits and starts, and even in good times, the struggle was never far away. As I sit here with two kids in college, in a house I share with the wonderful girl I met in my 3rd year, I can't help but reflect that the people who assumed I was "doing so well" and would continue to do so well, were both wrong and right. Ultimately, I did wind up with the life and kind of career my relatives assumed I would have, but I think those assumptions were based on a false pretense. Everyone had a lot of belief in me, but there is a fine line between belief and expectations. Beliefs lift you up, but expectations can be a burden. Everyone just assumed I would magically succeed because always had prior to my college years, but when I look back on my life now, I can think of so many moments were things could have easily fallen apart, but didn't, thanks to the love and support of of my friends and family, my girlfriend/wife, and if I'm being honest, quite often just dumb luck. Even with all that support and good luck, I was right on the edge of losing it far more often than anybody realizes. Everyone is still telling me "that I'm doing so well", but nothing is guaranteed in this life.

Well they make it more simple and seems easy, but our teacher will keep the tradition. So the new education system arent really change our way to study, they just add more things to books and make the hard things gone, but our teacher still want us to understand all of that. Like they cant pick one education system, so its like forced to learn two things that u dont even know which one are more important. Perfect scores? In ur dream. One of mf that are kind of nerdy need to wear glasses after like 1 and a half years studying here cuz its really that hard and she only got 1 perfect score.
