OMG, my father used to make peanut butter and bacon sandwiches by the Atlantic for my mom when they dated. She’d tell me about those, but never made one on her own. When I got out on my own I’d make them after scuba diving on the coast, toasted over an open fire just like you are doing but with bread. Then I had my own kids and would take them on walks in the forest, always bringing something to eat cause that’s how you reward kids for slogging through wet brush and green briar jungles with dad. I can still see and smell the bacon smoking and dripping as we cooked it on green sticks hanging over the flame. Bread got toasted on a rock facing the fire. Those sandwiches were heaven. My youngest named them LumGrun. What the heck? I asked him, which is the Lum and which is the Grun. He told me the bread and peanut butter was the Lum. The bacon was Grun. Lum Grun. Now they are grown and gone but I still carry the fixings when I go off into the forest or river. Nothing tastes as good as Lum Grun. Memories….

Great stuff Alex and Sydney! What is your fly rod length and weight? I am an avid angler but just picked up up a new fly combo and a couple used ones to try here in Nova Scotia. One is only 6ft in length (4 wt) which seems pretty short but for a canoe trip I imagine it could be perfect instead of trying to land a fish with a 9ft rod.
