Welcome back to a new episode of rags to riches. In our previous episode we covered ways to make gold with alchemy, herbal-ism and fishing. Today, we're going to explore 2 grinding spots: One High end spot for levels 55+ and one for low levels, somewhere around mid 30's. All this while trying to figure out the potential gold/hour for each location.
The reason why we're venturing into this region dominated by evil and magic is to slay the Deadwind Pass Ogres, which is one of the oldest and most notable farming locations. Back in vanilla this place was permanently camped by gold farmers and Chinese farmers. To this day you can still come here and farm around level 60 and make halfway decent money. The main source of income from the ogres will be the raw money they drop and Runecloth, although there are a couple of extra goodies that we will discuss later on.
There are 4 types of ogres scattered around the south-eastern part of deadwind pass:
-Ogre Maulers and Brutes
-And Ogre Mages and Warlocks.
The melee damage dealing ogres have 1 ability each, the mauler has and uppercut strike with a small knockback and the brute has Thrash strike that has a chance to do 2 additional attacks, pay careful attention to this one when you're low on health. Do not avoid them as the brutes carry more wealth than the other ogres, dropping on average 4 times the amount of silver.
All the ogres have a 35% chance to drop 1 to 3 runecloths, a 3% chance to drop Major healing potions, 1% chance for a major mana potion and a higher chance for the casters, around 1.6%. On top of that these mobs will drop grey weapons and armor in abundance, some of them vendoring for up to 2 gold. They also drop consistently greens and with a bit of luck, rares.
Make sure you have enough bag slots as they tend to fill up pretty quick.
During 2 hours of grind here, I managed to get 12 stacks of runecloth, 10 Major Healing potions, 5 Major mana potions, 3 darkmoon deck pieces, 1 travelers backpack and a variety of grey's and greens which I choose to sell them to vendor for a more consistent gold/ hour. Maybe it was the RNG.. but right about when I was ready to leave the place, a soulkeeper dropped (a useless rare item, but yet again... 4.5 gold at the vendor.) 2 minutes later, a warlock dropped the formula for superior strength on bracers. I will not include this in the final gold/hour as this is pure RNG.

    In Deadwind pass there's a road that just kind of forms a ring in the middle of the zone, it just has vultures fairly spread out. At level 60 the vultures are easy enough to kill and have a very consistent drop rate of high value grey stuff, along with the expected random world drops. It's can be a fairly lucrative if boring place to farm. Essentially you just run the ring, and by the time you come around the vultures have respawned. Not a lot of fussing with the AH on this one. Vanilla fact, this was a popular location for bots back in the day, it was such a simple area to path that you would see bots farming the area. It was a good place to learn how they functioned. If you tagged a mob, they would just kill it with the same set of skills and then try and loot it. Occasionally it would get stuck. A note about this location it can't handle more then two or so people farming it, so it's not great all the time. But good if you need a change.

  • @Frostadamus

    @Frostadamus

    5 жыл бұрын

    Need to check that out. Never grind there, but high value grey sounds consistent. Can you skin? I guess so.

  • @fitzdraco

    @fitzdraco

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@Frostadamus Looking at an old loot table you can skin them. I was blacksmith back in the day, so I don't remember. The mobs are called Sky Shadow, and the big appeal is a slow safe cash flow. You aren't likely to run up a big repair bill on these, you'll make good money on the gray drops. They also drop some useful crafting mats, buzzard wings, giant eggs, mystery meat, iron feathers. Honestly I'd probably put the area as 2nd or 3rd choice. Other places get full I would go here for no competition. They are also 55+ mobs, which means their world drops are 55+. Most people think of the .01% boe drops at this point, but there's a better thing to look for. Randomly stat greens. There's a bunch of high level green sets (by name only, no set bonus) that have random attributes. Councillor is cloth, Wanderer is leather, Ornate is mail, Templar is plate. These can actually end up being preraid BIS for a lot of people and can fetch a lot of gold. They can also be trash. You have to know what people are looking for, but knowledgeable people will pay for them. The birds aren't special in dropping these, they are just a safe place to farm. Maybe your class isn't the best at burning down mobs or what have you. Any mob 55+ can drop them.

    @@Frostadamus No, but I am more of a manufacturer or gatherer. Gold farming generally only creates inflation, money supply, like the treasury printing money, which means the price of my stuff goes up. With probably a greater proportion of the server population raiding than before, the only threat to me selling my flasks and other consumables, is a lack of liquidity. Lots of people, with lots of gold, and an inadequate supply, just means a bidding war and more gold for me! :) Not quite the benefit I was hoping for from my expensive economics education, but something at least.

    Basically, all Frostdamus grind spot videos that are not based on actual WoW Classic are fucking worthless. This is all Private Server bullshit. Classic drop rates are way, and I mean WAY, lower. This is maybe a 10g/h grind spot, maybe up to 15g/h if you luck out with the drops. And that's actually one of the better ones. Frostsdamus' supposedly "hottest" Silithus grind spot, for example, is almost comically bad in Classic, yielding maybe 7g/h.

    It's funny to think BFA methods make upwards of 100k+ hr and vanilla as 9-100g/hr. I do remember borrowing from my guild to get the mats for the paladin mount quest though

    Not very classified if I say but also for pure gold you can farm basilisk in shimmering flats if you wanna get your mount fresh at 40. I did it on my hunter playing elysium a year or so ago and made 150g in about 3-4 hours of farming...
