Brilliantly presented by Sean Leane, breathtaking jewels from a past long gone.
I was lucky enough to visit this exhibition it was breathtaking
It’s such a wonderful story of the history of Cheapside jewellers.
Makes sense that a jeweler hid them and subsequently died without heirs. Rented a jeweler's house once and there was a built in recessed bookshelf that the bottom shelf would slide out with a hiding place beneath.
What a perplexing mystery of such exquisite jewelry.
This is an entrancing and beautifully presented documentary. One can almost feel the jewels and be fascinated by the possible story behind the exquisite jewels, thanks to Shaun Leane .

Atma, grow up.
The Cheapside Hoarde is so exquisite! It takes your breath away.
Wonderful, definitely educational and full of history.
It’s great when a video or program is presented by someone who has a real passion and understanding of the subject. I’m not big into jewellery, except that with a sentimental value, but I really enjoyed this production.

A feast for the eyes. Wonderful!
These jewels, even that topaz looking, counterfeit, as he called it, with that price back then, is remarkable. That gold watch is awesome.
I really enjoyed this. I never knew of it and now feel the need to go to the London Museum and see it for myself.
Is there anywhere on the Internet where one can see the actual hoard? Less talk and more hoard?
the vanity of constantly showing himself & very little of the jewelry.

I was thinking the same thing.. this show was a joke.. it obviously was a way for that jerk to promote his own business while using the name of the horde to get people to watch.. and on national tv no less.. talk about getting some free advertising.. what a twat..

Lovely though is he not.....?
That scent bottle is gorgeous !!!!!
While watching part 1 I was wondering whether it was buried during the civil war and couldn't understand why no one was mentioning it. Well, here it is! I reckon it's likely, to say the least, that whoever buried this treasure trove was protecting it from Cromwell's hordes.

Highly likely Elizabeth Ma'am, so much treasure was lost sub-surface, how about the Great Fire....? It is recorded that wealthy folk buried many valuables in their gardens...prior to fleeing....

In the years since this video was produced. the pieces have come together. The hoard was almost certainly buried by a jeweler commissioned by the crown; I believe his name was shown on a document in this program. He was the lease holder and didn't keep up his payments. Rather than forfeit the jewels to make payment he buried them, planning to return one day.
Don't know why I got this🤔 Clicked because I saw in the thumbnail a young Rich Hall 😂 But it was interesting - like so much on KZread one didn't look for, but which subject turned out peculiarly fascinating.
What an amazing story
Thank you, I only wish I could travel to England and see these myself
Scent bottle is fabulous.
Wonderful doc; the Cheapside Hoard exhibition book is available, but is expensive now. Go eBay
A thought indeed but I erred on the idea that it promoted a desire to see the exhibition. A wetting of the appetite if you will.
Thank you amazing!
Perfume bottle schmerfume bottle... I'm taking the huge emerald watch box fob thingy ;) soooooo sexy
The emerald bottle/watch looks like it was cut out of a natural large Colombian emerald. Quite impressive. I think the narrator is wrong about some of the material of the scent bottle, insofar as it looks like the panels were carved in the shape of leaves from a particularly fine chalcedony, or a very translucent agate.

Funny that considering the presenter made a big deal of his being a jeweler by showing us his shop..

he details only the gem stones. he doesn't mention the panels at all so I'm sure he is aware of what they are made from but he isn't 'wrong' about them, he doesn't mention them.
thank you!
Fascinating. Please note that your craftsmen have last names. Duncan has a last name. Doubtless, you are a gifted jewelry designer. You, however, are not the sole artistic force behind what you "create."
Why don't you check the perpetual calendar on the two silver watches from Geneva so it could give you the exact date and time when it stopped working?!

The watches may have stopped long before burial. They could have been repair pieces
wow and I never cared if I had anything besides not so expensive costume! I love my ethnic Tibetan and Hill Tribe but viewing this- wow! Does anybody know if there is a good book about the history- the people who may have lost their lives over pieces down the eras?
I wish we could have seen more of the actual hoard and less of him faffing about!

And horrible script and music. BBC overproduction
Going by name alone, I would like to buy some.
In these days of COVID19, I can’t wait until these jewels come to Melbourne when there is more movement allowed.
I would just love to hear the woman in the blue and green say the phrase "bearer of the curse" (if you know you know)
Not sure if the music or the endless close ups of this guy was more annoying on this video.
Hallmarking might have been a rort too. Hallmarks might have been delayed until an item was purchased. Hallmarking costs a percentage of value here now. Maybe they had that taxing Hallmark system, which would have been costly, when all of your worth is in jewellery stock
MERCHANTS AND TRADERS
The White Horseman, he goes out to Conquer and to Conquer!
0:23 😂 Sorry but that's a strange reaction to somebody being poisoned 500 years ago. "Oh that's terrible." 🤔🤦♂️😅 More like "Ooh! The intrigue! 🤓"
All speculations, the real answer will never be known

was cheapside affected by the great fire of 1666 ?

That is why the narrator said it was a wonder it didn't melt and get destroyed. They thought it was buried just before that fire started in 1666.
Oh i left it there its mine lol
Bet those knights templars are fuming to date. Finders keepers.
This guy looks like the original Darren from Bewitched, only not strung out on dope and booze.
Maybe all that jewelry was stolen.
For rhyme or reason, Date and political season, Try a clearvoient, Or a Remote Veiwer.
so the horde of Jewels was discovered in the Cheap side of town where Merchants congregate, not that hard to imagine that it belonged to a Jew
