    The world needs much fewer sound bars and many more 2.1/2.2 setups. This is really well done.

    USB can begin to drop out at 10 - 15 ft and that's total length. If you want to go longer you need a powered USB extender for reliable connection.

    I followed your miniDSP series to set up a 2.2 system with the 2x4HD with great success. Contemplating upgrading to the Flex for a while but I think I'll wait till my theater grows and move the HD there. You rock Brad, thanks for your hard work!

    Thanks so much! (I just responded to your comment on my home theater tour video as well.) The Flex is really great. I love it and we use it all the time as we watch some TV shows and listen to music in the living room. For subs only it is a bit overkill, but for a 2.2 channel setup it's awesome for the screen alone.

    Thanks Brad for the additional inspiration here! I'm about to replace the soundbar at my Dad's place with an AVR set for stereo and two bookshelf speakers. Hopefully, it will be a big step-up for his TV entertainment time. The bigger woofers in the bookshelf speakers should be an audible upgrade from the little drivers in the soundbar.

    Thanks for the comment, Kevin! I’m sure your dad will notice the sound improvement over the sound bar! We’ve been watching some comedy shows in the living room lately, mainly due to the convenience, and man… I don’t know how much longer I could have held out with just the TV speakers. Haha. Even a sound bar would have been an upgrade from the internal speakers.

    @@HomeTheaterGamer Hey Brad/Trish, I glad you both are enjoying the major upgrade with this system. It's like walking out into the sunshine from a dark room difference. Isn't it? Personally, I could do without all of the streaming and audio features in the TVs today. Just give us hobbyists a great video display and we will add the rest as we see fit - thanks. As you two found with the internal TV speakers, it's not much better than a clock radio quality. 😁

    @@trishpipkins As good as my Dad's sound bar is, there's really "no replacement for speaker displacement". A bigger loudspeaker with a decent amplifier is a must for a bigger room and a little distance. I'm going to start using his set-up as a test bed for different audio systems so I can begin recommending better gear instead of the soundbar "audio in a box" stuff. I think for the money or a little more the audio quality could be much better for folks. Well, all the very best to both of you and please have a great rest of your weekend.

    Thankfully, somebody did a miniDSP flex review. So my question goes like this. I want to setup my miniDSP with two channels for the stereo and two of the channels for some headphones. For the stereo I was thinking of running the two channels out to the subwoofer and then running from the subwoofer to the stereo speakers. The subwoofer has a built in crossover network (high pass/low pass). The question is, in this setup would I be getting proper room correction. I’m looking at doing this because I have hearing problems and will need the corrects and both the stereo and the headphones. Any input would be much appreciated.

    Hi, I have quantasylum qa403 audio analyzer. It has a built-in software function, bottom toolbar, that lets you know if the USB connection is good. I just set up the device in a balanced loop back configuration. Set software to measure THD+noise at high sample rate and FFT then run sweep to verify all my USB cables are good.

    I’m struggling to find a 2 channel receiver or integrated with room correction, hdmi arc, and proper bass management. Would a mini dsp unit with hdmi and a good amplifier be a possible solution? Does the mini dsp essentially act as the preamp? Thanks for the video.

    I just replaced all my 2x4 HDs with the Flex balanced to eliminate a, "hum" problem. I also replaced all the Emotiva BasX's with XPA's using the balanced inputs. This solved the hum completely. I never thought about the possible problem with the remote control. I think I'm going to put tape over the IR sensors on all the Flex's to eliminate any possible problems. Eventually there will be some sort of curtain or something that all the crossovers will be behind so that will eliminate any possible issues. I did set four different configurations but I have five Flex's so I'm not sure there is a reliable way to control that on all five with a remote. Also, depending on the situation I might only be changing config on two of them. I think remote operation just isn't an option in my situation. I just discovered your channel today, I need to look and see if you have any videos on automation. One of my next big projects is to figure out how to control the lighting etc.

    Great advice. I’ll reach out to them. I did just get a cheap 15 foot USB-C to USB-A cable from Amazon that works without issue with the UMIK-2 (it was only $9 so I was willing to take the gamble). So I’ll update soon with a pinned comment about that (currently swapping out some in-ceiling speakers).

    What's going on at the 180hz dip and why didn't you try to raise it?

  • @HomeTheaterGamer

    @HomeTheaterGamer

    7 ай бұрын

    That dip is due to placement in the room. A general rule I try and follow is that if I need to boost something more than 3dB, then it’s not worth doing as it can create other issues. I’d rather not take away headroom on a bookshelf speaker with a built in amplifier, especially at frequencies below 200Hz where more power is needed. I couldn’t really move the speakers and can’t move things in the room around, plus the room isn’t ideal at all in terms of sound, so it is what it is.

    Why is the flex DSP not in the theater with 2 x subwoofers?

  • @HomeTheaterGamer

    @HomeTheaterGamer

    Жыл бұрын

    Mainly because the FLEX is basically overkill for subwoofer only calibration. Bluetooth audio is useless for sub only stuff, and while the OLED screen is a nice touch, again it’s kind of pointless in a sub only config (in my opinion of course).

  • @trishpipkins
    @trishpipkins Жыл бұрын

    It's so much better having actual speakers and now subwoofers in the family room. It's sad the subwoofers are a little big for the room. We should just buy a bigger house instead of getting smaller subwoofers. 😂
