When I first lived in California in the late 70s one of my housemates was a local girl who was acutely aware of earthquakes. I was curious why she was so aware of and concerned about quakes. She educated me about living in an earthquake zone. She hung crystals on thread in windows so they were just touching the glass. If you heard a sudden tap tap tap you knew things were moving. She pointed out swarms of small to mid-range earthquakes are a good thing - they relieve the stresses on faults. What you don't want is no small or mid-range earthquakes for a long period of time, that would most likely mean the stresses were building toward a larger quake. These quake clusters, which happen often, are a good thing, and are not generally considered signs of a bigger one coming.

Wow, thanks for that info. I’m in Australia and we don’t have many quakes but what you said about the Chrystal hangings was very clever. In the present times and cycles earth is going through quakes could be any where.

As I've said before, alot of little quakes is actually a good thing. It shows that it's releasing pressure sporadically on the continental plate, instead of one huge, sudden jolt, which would cause chaos, or the big one.

That's not true though, the small ones don't release the stress, they are indicative of it. Nothing is going to stop that inevitable big one. Number one rule in geology is if it happened before it will happen again as long as the mechanism is still active and that it is.

No, that means pressure is building. They are not all the same kind of faults, nor are they the same kind of earthquakes. On the Westcoast, where the San Andreas is a strike slip, you get an earthquake for blocks. On the east coast where the North American plate dips, you get earthquakes for states. The cacadia is silent but deadly because it is a mega-uplift. How deadly? They only know about it because the Japanese who have been keeping records since medieval times recorded a 12 foot orphan tsunami that wrecked their shores in 1700. Cascadia wasn't known about till the 19880s when someone found the Japanese records of the orphan wave. This plate is forced under the Pacific playe. They just found hot water releases from the mantle outside of Seattle just last year. It gets small quakes on the north end of the plate, as long as they stay under a 2 its fine. But these are coming from the action end or the south end of the plate. Being a subduction, that means when it goes, it will shoot back up and cause tsunamis for the entire Pacific rim. It is estimated to happen every 300 to 350 years. It is now 324.

The Pasific plates have been movin frequently from Australia an Philippines, forcing the plates to move both east an west. From S America like a whiplash up to N Amarrican plate. If an when this happens, a ripple effect can run down through the Cascades an inland. So this could start a new action on the west side.❤❤❤👍👍🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧🌋🌋

Unless the events are large/significant they wont be reported by USGS as Canada is not part of the US. The US in USGS stands for USA.

The USGS "Latest Earthquakes" maps shows earthquakes of all sizes - mostly tiny - all over the world that have been detected.

If science would look with a fresh perspective then it wouldn't be so difficult to understand the way how our earth is working. In the 1950 and sixties we went to look at tectonicplates and how rubbing is the reason for earthquakes. Sorry, this is a stupid thing to do. Magma from within the earth in between or under the faultlines created are the reason of earthquakes. Magma is known to move in waves. So having swarms of quakes. Yep. Normal when magma bumps into a collision area. When plates move after a higher earthquake or big volcano outburst it will move plates and change pressure on the channels along the ring of fire. As magma gets blocked in its way of moving it will look for the best way to go across the obstacle or go through it. Thats the magnetism that flows with magma. With this saying magma can move or change it directions if it finds an old fisher or channel and with this part of changes creating old volcanoes who are dormant to become active again. The strength of an earthquake can be calculated. Also how it can grow or loose it strength, I, have a calculation thats matching this. However using it to predict is another thing because we can't see below or in the channels of magma to see if a part suddenly gets blocked. Implodation. Or movement pressure. 8:36 .
