1x30 Grinder modifications that make a real difference!!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is my primary grinder for knives. I will be getting a 2x72 shortly, but this has been an awesome unit. However right out of the box there can be some improvements to optimize for knife making. This is only one way of modifying this grinder, but doing modifications was very cheap, and let me take my work to a new level. I highly encourage anyone who uses this grinder to modify it a little bit to suit your needs

I just used a smaller piece of angle iron for my jig and didn’t have to change the platen. I also just epoxied my work rest to the old one so I didn’t have to drill anything. Has worked great. Put some flitz polish on the work rest so the jig glides nicely

I got the same belt sander but I took the tool rest off and I build a wood table in front of it then I bought a angle adjustable jig so I didn't have to adjust any of the angles on the sander

Bear River Knives, great video! It would be cool to see a video of you making a knife start to finish. New sub!

i always free hand so i never have the jig issue, but freehand brings up 100 more for every one it solves. Also my plate screw seized so i unscrewed it and threw the plate across the shop... i later picked it up and threw it away.

This was a great video. I've had the HF 1x30 for a couple years and I'd venture to guess I have close to 1000 hours on it. It's starting to make some weird noises in the motor so I'm assuming it'll die in the not-too-distant future. Even with that being said, I want to make these mods to make my life easier. Thanks a lot. Subbed.

Great video. What are the dimensions of the tool rest, platen and jig you made?

I wonder if a speed controller would be beneficial? They make some cheap ones that you plug the tool into.

I had to do something similar to mine. I've decided to build a 2" because the grinders available are way over priced for what you actually get.

GUY FROM TEXAS SELL A ANGLE GUIDE FOR KNIFES LOT CHEAPER AND EASIER THAN WHAT YOU DID...................

Wow. A lot of work for a solution that is already designed. I bought a Harbor Freight belt sander and ordered a simple add-on jig that attaches to the platen and it is adjustable for all knife angles. Problem solved.
