I think bringing some online life to these retro games is a great idea. I even remember playing this game as a kid and it gave me a lonely vibe lol.

F-Zero X was the first FZero game to really get my attention in the 90s. It has a whopping 30 racers at once, so getting up to 99 would've been insane but not impossible with SNES graphics. I would've loved the original a lot more for it since I beat it in one evening as opposed to Mario karts replayability with 150cc

great! now i don’t have to get wrecked for hundreds of hours by kids 1/4 my age to find out what happens if you win

getting recommended this for the first time in 5 months makes me realize just how bad I was at this game to have not been farming wins every race. No insult to you or anyone else at the time - videos like this are great moments in time for how sloppy almost everyone was at this game. Most of the people still playing this are superhumans.

It's much better than wipEout Merge. I'm glad Nintendo didn't abandon F-zero. Also, I hope Namco makes an announcement about Ridge Racer. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Ridge Racer. If Ace Combat, Klonoa, and even Baten Kaitos can be revived, why not Ridge Racer? Necro Felipe says Ridge Racer 8 has not been cancelled. I hope what he says is true.

Good work on your first Falcon Dinner (1st place finish in F-Zero 99), as I like how in F-Zero 99, the Safe Area moves to higher positions after each lap like in the original F-Zero. Since finishing the ongoing lap below its Safe Rank results in disqualification, making the Safe Area work like that would be a cool way to 99-ify other racing video games. When players are below the Safe Rank, they risk getting disqualified, especially when the Rank Out Zone truly shows up. Since players trapped in the Rank Out Zone in F-Zero 99 face disqualification, it is similar to typical battle royale games where players who are trapped outside the Safe Zone risk getting eliminated. I know of this old, relatively obscure snowboard racing game called Snowboard Kids, and its lap system uses a chairlift at the end of the track. I am not sure how to fully 99-ify Snowboard Kids due to how the chairlift usually made players go one-by-one, which would be too slow. Still, Snowboard Kids 99 would have to make its altered chairlift turn away anyone who finishes the ongoing lap below the Safe Rank, and it would be really awesome if Snowboard Kids had a 99-player battle royale treatment.

I’ve gotten first on a couple pro races, a mini prix (clutch first on White Land I), and 2 in a row on a complete Knight League run (Sand Ocean and Death Wind I), but I have yet to finish first in a straight 99. I _have_ gotten FRUSTRATINGLY close on Death Wind I but I blew up at the VERY end

NGL, this looks fun but also hella frustrating...you get pingponged all over the place and then win at the last second thanks to picking up enough yellow orbs to go on the fast road above everybody...can only imagine the players who were out in front being super pissed by a couple players overtaking them right at the end purely thanks to the timing of the yellow orbs

When I was 12 years old I wanted Sega Genesis . My parents didn't have much but surprised me to get a console in 1992. My cousin and best friend had Genesis and I love sports and sport games so I wanted it for that. But then my other older cousin got a Super NES and I got to see F-Zero with my own eyes at his house and a few months later he introduced me to Street Fighter 2...well that was it. F-Zero, SF2 and Turtles in Time I'm glad I got to play those games. No knock to Sega cause I love Sega. Dreamcast is a top 3 favorite. Crazy Taxi still holds up but seeing this is great.

Nice! My first win was pretty crazy. I was falling behind from about 6th place to 18th about a third of the way through lap 4 on the sand track, almost out of energy. Out of nowhere someone bumps into me and gets koed, refilling my energy, allowing me to get in a couple boosts as well as skylane my way all the way from 16th to 1st. Lost control a bit in the last couple seconds but the gap I made was big enough that it didn't matter! F-Zero 99 is fun, but how the hell do you ensure you get in first? Seems like a lot of luck involved. More-so about survival than racing. I've found it's better to sacrifice a few places to protect my energy. In the original F-Zero, you could win cups by just being in the top few, rather than just first place in most races.

You can convert armor energy to a speed boost and time the skyway to skip slower parts of the track. So it's a mixture of luck, strategy, and balancing risk with reward.

@@pigs18 well, that I knew. Of course boosting is important, but boosting too much can really cut down your ability to survive. Skyways help, but even if you get in first, you're facing an onslaught of red machines which explode on contact, and can destroy your machine if you don't have a decent amount of energy to protect yourself. So even when I was well ahead of the competition, the game decided to throw in like... 7 of 8 of the red machines in front of me. I accidentally touched one and just died. I liked GX specifically because you were rewarded for speed and precision. This one just punishes you for daring to be in first. I just don't enjoy what was essentially an F-Zero version of a blue shell appearing right before me. That's horseshit.

You know!? Nice racing kid, but you were lucky. Tip from an old F-zero veteran... if you push the down on the directional button your ship pull it's nose up and fly further. Also you landing is smoother so will retain more speed. Darn it hurts my eyes everytime you dropped your ship back on track like a brick... a lot to learn kid... have fun! Nice video. 😉👍
