TVXQ kicked off the 2nd generation of KPOP all the way back in 2003! There are currently two remaining members, Changmin (MAX) and Yunho (U-KNOW). They're both in their 30's so they've already done their enlistment. If you wanna get a feel for them as a duo I'd recommend The Chance of Love, Spellbound and Truth. Last year Changmin released his first solo mini album and it's great, the title track Chocolate is stupid good. Yunho's second solo mini album JUST dropped. The title track is Thank U, and the MV is literally rated R lol, it's intense. Check out their duo stuff, check out their solo stuff, check out everything, I cannot stress their talent enough. Love them.

I originally started noticing Taeyong and getting into NCT because of how much he looks like Jaejoong. TVXQ are the OGs of Kpop along with BoA. SM is a slimy company but they’ve had so many iconic idols under the agency and started a lot of trends which make what Kpop what it is today.

They were acapella group. They debuted with HUG which showed a snippet of their ability as acapella group. Also check I BELIEVE and LOVE IN THE ICE. Their vocals are out of this world. All of them are good singers and have their own part of adlibs and highnotes in their whole discography. Oh also, they are one of the biggest kpop act in japan along with the Queen BOA too. They were treated like a local artists there. They even sang ONE PIECE's OST; WE ARE. Them being the singer of main OST from one of the most iconic and famous anime in Japan and worldwide said it all. BOA and TVXQ is the real deal! Edit. I really wish you check the female version of TVXQ called CSJH THE GRACE for another throwback. Their vocals are amazing too. 3 of them was SM's vocal trainer at some point. Check MY EVERYTHING and DANCING IN THE RAIN.

If you decide to watch more TVXQ, i recommend Wrong Number!

I love how we are slowly going through the SM groups/soloist catalog. If you have time you should check out BoA our queen who is a soloist under SM as well. She broke a ton of barriers into foreign market some say that she is a big part of the spread of kpop in the early years to now.

When we said SM is vocal powerhouse & home of visual, this is the main group we talking about. Vocals and visuals that makes them hold Genius World Record 2 times back then ( idk if they still hold the record now ) Each member of TVXQ was supposed to debut as solo singers or lead 5 different groups. However, due to financial problems, SM Entertainment chose the most talented trainees and formed TVXQ as an acapella-dance group. Lee Soo Man stated that out of several different teams, he chose the best member from each and brought them together to create a ‘major-league’ team. That team was TVXQ. In the early 2000s, people had lost their interest in idol groups so the K-Pop industry started dying out due to financial problems. As TVXQ debuted on December 26, 2003, with 'Hug', they immediately attracted everyone's attention. Back then digital music sales weren't relevant and selling 100 thousand cassette albums, which were cheap, were considered a huge success. In 2004, TVXQ's debut album 'Tri-angle' and single albums 'Hug' and 'The Way You Are' sold more than 800 thousand CD albums. They gained huge popularity in Asia when they came back in 2008 with Mirotic and paved the way for K-Pop in Asia. TVXQ was recorded in Guinness Book of World Records as ‘having the largest official -paid- fan club’ back in 2008. Yes, the one you liked in both mv is the same person. Hero Jaejeong. He has cool songs as solo "mine" and "heal for myself " are really great. Xiah is pronounced as sia like in (A)sia he, harland Mikey left TVXQ in 201p they sing together in JYJ but I think.now they are kind of disbanded too.

currently there are only two members left and they still do promote as a duo, they still released so many good songs. changmin got married recently but he has participated in their recent smtown concert, yunho is having his comeback currently, he took part in his recent album called NOIR. seulgi is going to be in a mv being released on the 25th called eeny meeny, he has a series of mvs for this album that were already released! the mvs r rly cool! they give off movie vibes!

The one you like, the one practically shirtless in Mirotic and with the black hair in Rising Sun is Jaejoong. Taeyong of NCT got a lot of attention early on for having looks resembling him. And in the Balloons music video, the kid version of Yunho is now Moon Bin, a member of Astro. The kid version of Yoochun is now Chani, member of SF9 and young actor. Changmin's kid version grew up to be Chanwoo of Ikon. Cool that the random kids cast in a music video eventually found their way to idol world.

Fun Fact 2: I was living in Korea as an English teacher when this song came out. One time I was teaching my students songs in English and the only way to get them to cooperate was for me to promise that they could teach me one Korean song. They chose Balloons. I can still sing it by heart to this day. lol

OH! and one of the little kids, he was a tiger, his name is moonbin and he is in a boy group currently called astro! theyre a super duper talented group, i think you will really enjoy their songs!

TVXQ’s live performances were great but Hero/Jaejoong hurt his leg around the time of the Rising Sun promotions (the one with black shaggy hair who you said was your favorite in rising sun) and so he wasnt in some of the live performances. Also, BoA (u can pronounce her name like the snake, boa) and TVXQ had a song together called Triangle but its more of a rock song. BoA and TVXQ are both from SM. If you want to hear vocals, Love in the Ice is a ballad and just so much vocals

OKAY so imma gonna write a lot, sorry in advance Mirotic was my first kpop song ever and TVXQ was my ultimate group until dreamcatcher came along, but they remain my first bg ever. Mirotic was a mark on kpop not only because it is iconic but also because it was the first attempt on a male sexy concept similar to the ones we have nowadays. Before that, the mvs were just dramatic like rising sun, with crazy hairstyles and stuff. Mirotic was even censored on a couple of music shows, they had to change the lyrics from under my skin to under my sky lol So if boygroups are out there today showing their abs live, thank them lol Junsu started singing and you went "Oh i like his voice" and i was like "yeah, you, me and the whole south korea" lol He was choosen the best male voice of the nation for years straight, it's insane. To be honest, the whole group is a vocal treasure. SM himself said each member could be the lead/main vocalist of another group, and that's why they were put together, a vocal dreamteam. And yes, the guy you like is Jaejoong or Hero, the blonde one in Balloons mv, he is a weirdo, but his voice is heaven. Btw, those names on the rising sun mv are their stage name. U-Know is Yunho. Hero is Jaejoong. Max is Changmin. Micky is Yoochun. Xiah (shee-ah, or sia) is Junsu. Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu (JYJ) left SM for contract issues and boy was there drama. Before it happened the kpop community had no clue of what type of contract their idols were being submitted to, until JYJ decided to sue SM for slave contracts if they dont change the terms. It was beyong absurd and the main change after it was that sm contracts (and other companies as well) changed a lot to prevent that drama from happening again. Today's contractual terms are still absurd, but they were way worse back then, so progress, i guess? Since you liked Jaejoong you should check out his solo works after leaving sm, My personal favorite is Love You More. But Mine and Another Girl are amazing as well. The other members all have solos, Yunho just had a comeback for his second solo song Thank U. Changmin has CHocolate, you would enjoy his diverse vocal colors, it's truly amazing. Junsu has many solo songs, my personal favorites are Rock the World and Flower. Yoochun has a couple but they are not that famous, he is more known for his acting career, yes he is hella good at it. For their group stuff, i'd suggest Tonight, Love in the Ice and One for vocal analysis. Also O Jung.Ban.Hap, Hug, Wrong Number and The Way U Are for comeback/Follow Up songs. From the Duo, Before U Go for crazy vocals, and Catch Me, Something, Spellbound, Chance of Love and Truth for comeback/follow up songs. From JYJ, definetely In Heaven for vocals, maybe Boy's Letter too. Get Out and Back Seat for title tracks. Since they ended the contract with SM in bad terms, they are still blocked from music shows so... They dont promote their stuff there anymore, so there aint much to see...

Fun fact: Rising Sun was used for one scene in Fast and Furious 4

Xiumin worships TVXQ. Super Junior and the members of TVXQ were best friends and most still are. All of them were trainees under SM and grew up together, even living together. The creator of SM, Lee Soo Man, actually toyed with a few different ideas of which trainees to put together before he decided on the 5 to make TVXQ. You might get confused because TVXQ is actually known by three names, TVXQ, DBSK and Tohoshinki. Lee Soo Man (LSM) loves the visual of hanja, Chinese characters, so he decided on the Chinese characters TVXQ which stands for Tong Vfang Xien Qi which translates to the "Rising gods of the east." It looked better than Dong Bang Shin Ki (DBSK), which is their Korean name and what they are known by in Korea. 東方神起 versus 동방신기. LOL In case you didn't know, LSM loves the dramatic and loves to make names. SM's group before TVXQ, is called Shinhwa which means "Legend" or "Myth". Shinhwa, while no longer under SM, is still together and is the oldest active k-pop group. He also came up with EXO'S alien concept: gave Kim Jun-Myeon the name Suho which means "Guardian" in Korean, Kim Jong-In the name Kai which in hanja means "open", etc. LSM gave all the 5 members of TVXQ their stage names: U-Know Yunho, Hero Jaejoong, Micky Yoochun, Xiah Junsu, and Max (Choegang) Changmin. TVXQ's popularity was intense. They were in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most photographed celebrities and in 2008 the group with the largest officially paid fan club with over 800,000 members in Korea. That's not counting other international fan clubs or the Japanese fan club called Big East. EVERYONE in Korea was scared of their fans, Cassies. Variety shows, MCs, the media, etc. watched every word they said around TVXQ in case they offended them. TVXQ saesangs were even scarier. The leader, U-Know Yunho (which was his original gaming name), was poisoned by an anti who was able to slip him a drink with crazy glue and was rushed to the hospital. The police didn't press charges because Yunho specifically asked them not to because the girl was the same age as his younger sister. Yunho is known for his integrity and his PASSION. It was BoA and DBSK that broke into the Japanese market. Before them, k-pop wasn't popular in Japan. BoA and TVXQ had to literally start from scratch over again as rookies in Japan. They stayed in Japan, learned the culture, customs, language, etc. That's why DBSK is so loved in Japan and are known as Tohoshinki, a Japanese name. It's thanks to them that k-pop groups are able to enter the Japanese market. The one you liked, Hero Jaejoong, used to say he was tone deaf before entering SM. I think most agree that he was/is the SM visual standard. The youngest, Max Changmin, is the one with the high notes. He was scouted while playing badminton and the only reason he and his mom agreed to go to SM was because his mom wanted to meet BoA. LOL

OH man...You should've reacted to their ballads like Bolero, Tonight, My Little Princess, Midoyo, Hug, Love in the Ice, Holding Back the Tears, Heart Mind & Soul...etc. Love in the Ice is my personal favorite. Their live performance of it never fails to bring me to tears.

Mirotic is another one of SM’s timeless classics. Groups still cover it to this day. A little bit about them: TVXQ was originally a 5 member group but 3 of their members left in 2010 after filing a lawsuit against SM for their infamous slave contracts, unfair profit distributions, etc. (cuz SM do be a snake, what’s new?). So, yes, TVXQ is currently only a 2 member group, the other 3 left and went to form their own group called JYJ. If you plan on continuing with them, I’ll recommend Something and The Chance of Love, which are more recent. Also, can I say, seeing you react to 2nd gen stuff and watching you slowly becoming an SM Stan is the best thing in the world. So many talented artists. I can’t wait to see more SM content, hopefully you get to check out more from TVXQ, Super Junior, F(x), and Shinee (Replay is another one of SM’s timeless hits and was also filmed in a microwave, also fitting since they’re coming back next month). I can write an entire essay on why SM artists are my absolute favorite, but I’ll spare you 😅.

I would've recommended My Little Princess acapella version. When TVXQ was still OT5, they used to do acapella versions of some of their songs and do acapella covers as well 🥰 their ballads are also to die for 😫💕

I can't believe you reacted to Balloons 😂Funny thing is balloons is a cover of an older song, so when this came out they gained a lot of older fans as well, since everyone could sing along to this. You're favourite was Jaejoong/Hero! He left the group and SM in 2010 together with Yoochun/Mickey and Junsu/Xia (the guy with the interesting voice) and it was pretty messy. Jaejoong's solo career is a mix of ballads and rock, so I think you would really enjoy his music! Especially Mine and Just another girl. Xia also has a solo career, though he mostly does musicals. His solo songs are a mix of pop and ballad and whatever you would call tarantallegra. Yunho/U-know and Changmin/Max stayed in SM and carried on the name of TVXQ! I really like Something and Chance of Love from them. Both of them has also released solo music, Yunho's latest solo Thank U came out last week I think! TVXQ! was the first kpop group which got really big in Japan, and personally I think that their Japanesee discography is superior to their korean one. Songs like Bolero, When did I fall in love with You and Survivor are all classics. Also, they have a lot of names! In Japan they're called Tohoshinki (THSK), internationally Tong Vfang Xien Qi (TVXQ) and in Korea Dong Bang Shin Ki (DBSK). It means the rising god of the East 😅 (I'm glad they managed to live up to that name during their career...)

Facts!!

TVXQ is famous for their vocals, harmony and live. They were actually the first boy group who became so successful in Japan. Live performance is very important to Japanese audience. SM sent them to Japan because Japanese market was much bigger.

I confess, i still watch Myrotic every once in a while. Just to appreciate the music and the view. Such an iconic song tbh

Hahahahha can't believe you ended this reaction with "Balloons" so iconic but the song is actually a remake by like and 80s or 90s kpop group I think. Also, if it's easier to say DBSK as opposed to TVXQ they go by different names bc they have korean, Chinese, and Japanese names for their group... Dong Bang Shin Ki, TVXQ is the acronym for their Chinese name, and Tohoshinki (THSK) in Japanese! Definitely recommend a live performance they were known for their vocals back in the day. Also agree with you on it being nice that they don't purposely deepen their voices when rapping. It got more popular recently but I think especially (in my opinion open for debate) because of the influence of Big Bang's T.O.P. Who happened to gave more natural raspier deep tone. Feel like he popularized that deep rap style 😊 Now excuse me while I fall into a DBSK blackhole for the next couple of hours which a nice break after like watching 13 hours of inauguration coverage 😵

@@toaster19_32 I do love Shinhwa but sadly the quality of the mv (talking about the look) is terrible - all look like they were shot though a potato. So many 1st gen Kpop mvs are nearly unwatchable because of that (check out Kim Gun Mo's Wrongful Coincidence to see an especially bad one). Of course there are other 1st Gen SM artists as well - Black Beat (Jin Young became famous after being the vocal trainer for Sisters Slam Dunk 2), Fly to the Sky, M.I.L.K. (who was supposed to use ITNW for their title track of 2nd album but they disbanded), - yes, I admit I am an SM stan for many years

Junsu's voice is so beautiful, as well as Jaejoong❤️

Imo TVXQ are the best live performers with the most stable vocals among all kpop idol groups. So you definitely should react to their live performances like Tonight, Mirotic, My little princess

You were right about finding Jaejoong in each video and identifying him as your favorite, haha. Also, you mentioned wanting to hear them sing live. Look up any live performance of Mirotic, and you will hear live vocals (I actually suggest the medley they did for MKMF 2008; it's out of this world). For the best live vocal performances of Rising Sun, look at the Japanese versions from their "Five in the Black" and "T" concert tours. For ballads, look up "Bolero" and "Love in the Ice" from their "Secret Code" concert in Tokyo Dome. They sang live more often in Japan than in Korea, though for a great live Korean tv perf, I suggest watching their "O. Jung Ban Hap" on Music Core from 2006. In none of these videos will you hear doctored vocals or see any lip sync (except for Changmin's Rising Sun high notes if you watch the Five in the Black verson). They are the absolute KINGS of live performance. No contest.

Yessss the legends! The gods! The majestic tvxq/dbsk! Unfortunately 3 of them left around 2009 I think because of mistreatment and have been blacklisted from appearing on variety and music shows. Even award ceremonies. Jaejoong (aka hero, the one you like), yoochun (aka Mickey) and junsu (aka xiah). After leaving SM they formed their own group JYJ and has released music together but the group has been inactive due to solo activities and other scandals that has happened. Yunho (aka U-know) and changmin (aka max) decided to stay in SM and as TVXQ and has released many songs. All of them except for xiah, has acted in dramas and movies. I personally think yoochun is the best actor out of the 4. Hopefully you can react to them more.

‘Bolero’ and ‘Love in the Ice’ to me are one of their best live vocals! Gives me goosebumps every time.

If you want to check their live performances out , I'd recommend one of their last award shows they attended as 5 "mnet: 2008 MKMF TVXQ" & "동방신기) 'Love In The Ice' Tokyo Dome LIVE" to hear their raw live vocals singing balad :)

Still so crazy to me that Changmin (Max) was only 15 years old here... why did I fall in love, love in the ice and bolero are my favourite live performances by them. If you want to check out their newest song, that one is called 'the chance of love'.

Hi Sir Austin, thankyou for reacting to TVXQ they are my favorite group of all time. 🥺 Anyway someone you like the voice is jaejoong, you guessed it right on another mv. His real name is Kim Jaejoong and his stage name is Hero (everyone everyone has a stage name) . He is the lead vocalist. And the last song, Ballons they also sang an acoustic version at their concert. And of course you have to watch their live performances because they can really sing the highnote live. 🥺 Lastly I recommend Hug, which is their debut song. Then you might want to react to Tonight, Love in the ice for more vocals. And they also have lots of Japanese albums and I recommend Bolero, Stand by You and Why did I fall in love with you. Thankyouuuu

This song it's legendary, but I think you need to see the live version, it's epic.

If you really want to catch a throwback, check out the original Dear My Family from 2002 with a 15 year old BoA (the only artist who did both versions) and the rest 1st Gen SM artists

Mirotic is a kpop CLASSIC! ot5 was iconic but the duo is also great! "Something" was my JAM xD

Fun fact: children in the "balloons" one of them is Moonbin from ASTRO, the other is Chanwoo from IKON 🥰

Oh yeah, btw their vocals are amazing. I haven’t really paid attention to them since the whole split thing but it’s undeniable that their vocals are legendary..they aren’t the rising gods of the east, as their name states, for nothing after all. I’d highly recommend Bolero and Tonight’s concert live. That latter one is an all time favorite

Mirotic is a legendary song, the fanchant for this song is sooo well known in S.Korea, even fans from other fandom known it RIsing Sun basically the ending song for TVXQ concert,, the live performance is epic and Balloons,, is the cutest song they ever perform

Can you react to jonghyun best vocals Moments ? He was the main vocalist of shinee and the most iconic vocalist of K-pop. His voice is too unique and sadly no one can go near his level in my opinion but i'm sure that's the popular opinion in the K-pop fandom. He was close with iu and taeyeon and changmin and kyuhyun. All are powerhouse 😂

There was a hell of a lot drama involved but tvxq was just another level... honestly the still active members (including Junsu and Jaejoong) still are. You should really check out a vocal performance like Love in the Ice or Why Did I Fall In Love With You. You can also check out any one of the Tvxq duo releases -My fav is Truth for some reason but really any one of them are top notch SM quality- also JYJ's In Heaven, Junsu's Flower etc.... there is a lot of top notch vocal and dance material there (not for reactions but they are just really really good)

"Bolero" live is outstanding!!

Fact: TVXQ sing the opening ost "We Are" of One Piece. I think you should react to that. And can you react to "Bolero" by TVXQ lived at Tokyo Dome? That song have a ton of vocal.

SO glad you enjoyed them, TVXQ! has some of the best vocals not in just Kpop in but in the entire industry, you will be BLOWN away if you continue to check them out, the 2 remaining are Changmin (MAX) 12:00 and Yunho (U-KNOW) 2:38 (in front with jacket open) and they also both have some solo work but your in for a treat i can promise you that

This is back when SM had a particular style called SMP (SM Production) songs. They are characterized by heavy beats and drastic style switches mid song. The lyrics contained social commentaries about current events. Rising Sun was a song about all the evil and sadness in the world. If you read the lyrics its very sad. SM stopped this style shortly after the TVXQ lawsuit but briefly brought it back when EXO debuted. These are my favorite songs from SM artists tbh.
