Medan has many ethnicities. There are Chinese, Indian, Malay, Batak, Karo, Acehnese, Minang, Nias, Javanese, and other ethnicities from all over Indonesia. Because of the ethnic diversity, the culinary tastes are also diverse and rich in taste. Enjoy Medan and Enjoy North Sumatra. Greetings from Berastagi, Karo, North Sumatra.

Halo Nick, beani mean how dare you single come to Medan.. 😁
"berani"means brave in English, she said you are so brave for traveling alone in Indonesia especially in Medan, so she suggesting you to be careful on your travel (she said hati hati) cuz I've seen someone's comment yesterday said Medan is Gotham City of Indonesia, but I'm not sure about that cuz I've never went to Medan, the advice is where ever you go stay careful, keep away from lonely places, etc. enjoy your travels can't wait for Samosir Island(Toba lake)'s vlog🤙

I lived in Pematang Siantar (a city 2 hours from Medan) for three years during elementary school, back in 1994 - 1997. Almost every school holiday period, my family usually took me to Medan to visit malls 😄 So I got a glimpse memories of Medan, but not very clear. That's why I want to visit the city again for the sake of memories and also I want to explore its diverse culinary. Thanks Nick, for taking me there virtually!

That nasi goreng place in the end is quite popular too, called Nasi Goreng Komdak, Komdak is the older name used to refer to Central Police Command (KOMando DAerah Kepolisian, thus KOMDAK) in each provinces, but the Komdak (Now Polda - Provincial Police) itself had moved to another place but the name stays.

Nick- I'm a midwestern bule visiting Indonesia soon. Any chance you'd do a short video on your everyday carry in your shoulder pack? Would love to prepare a bit. I really REALLY like your idea of having a towel to control sweat as well.
Hey man! Big fan of your videos from NZ 🇳🇿, would love to see your playlist based on a time sequence please 🤔
i remember when someone asked where you staying in another video and you said you dont want to tell em for your safety. the thing is, in indonesia, asking where you staying or you live is a gesture of politeness, and i can see you already know that from this video

Horas Nick! Welcome to Medan, North Sumatra. I hope you enjoy our diverse culture. And one more thing, you can explore other places such as mall, beautiful buildings, park, chinese temple, and other great places in the next video. Thank you Nick for exposing our places and culture! God bless you and the people you love.

Way to go Nick, my first time watching on your videos, good progress keep it up !
hii Nick,,, I like watching Nick' videos, the way you mingle with the community is very good. I hope your vacation to Indonesia in various areas is fun, Nick & You have to try typical Medan food, one of them: * Mie Gomak * soto medan *bika ambon cake how long will you be in Indonesia?
She quoted you the same price as to her local customer. Honest seller. That’s almost always what i found in Indonesia. Mostly no inflated price for tourists/foreigners. Wonderful people.
You have to try... 1. Durian medan 2. Bika Ambon 3. Mie gomak Go to Danau Toba (lake TOBA)
There was a crocs farm in Medan when I visited it in 2005. They got huge pool full of crocs.
Oh so you were there two weeks before Deepavali? If you asked her where she or her family came from, of course she’s going to say Indonesia. I guess you wanted her to say India, but for that you’d need to ask whether she was of Indian descent or not. But that’s a difficult task considering your current level of Indonesian. Semangat lagi belajar Bahasa Indonesianya! 💪 One tip is that we use both “bisa” and “boleh” but for different situations. In one where you’re asking whether you’re allowed to sit or not, it’s better to use “boleh” because “bisa” indicates your ability, and of course you’re able to sit down wherever you like. Enjoy Medan!
berani is brave, lol hahah if you are in North Sumatera,You must visit Samosir Island for sure.I think that place deserve include on your video, enjoy ur time Nick
14:43 pretty sure she means her family (or at least herself) don't maintain any relations with their ancestors' homeland, not that she's not of Indian descent. White Americans do the same thing calling themselves true blue Americans even if their great grandfather was from Italy and their great great grandmother was from Ireland. It's that nationalism at play.
im so glad mas nick back in my lovely country
Eyy nick I'm Indonesian. And pure medan. I have a lot of time, if you want to ride out / hang out in medan. Let's go around medan!!

6:19 We also say "lapan" for number "eight" in Malaysia. On the other than, it's called "delapan" in Indonesian. I've always wondered why there are two different words for the number 8 in Indonesia and Malaysia.

It's delapan in old Malay. It came from dua alapan (means dua ambilan = 10 ambil 2 = 8)

No, we say both delapan and lapan in Indonesia. One is just the shortened version. Just like "we are" is shortened to "we're" in English.
Next time when you order food don't say "lihat-lihat saja", that's mean you just looking, not buy it. Just say "bisa lihat / boleh lihat?", That's mean can i see?
