You wouldn't say that if you actually were next door neighbour to a professional pianist. First you'll have to endure scales, and Hanon Etudes, and then when the actual practice session starts you'd hear 4 bars over and over and over again. ;)

  • @andresgunther

@@Quotenwagnerianer Absolutely correct. The ONLY time I got banged on the wall by my neighbors was when I was repeating "those 4 bars" for over 30 minutes. Since I don't have a "real" piano now I do that kind of work with headphones.

Hey Tiffany, this was a really great video. We usually don't get access to this type of behind the scenes where two people work for the first time and it is really interesting to see how ideas are exchanged, compromises made and where you are in agreement. Hope everything is going well with you and you should make more of these! :)

Saw Glen Gould do Mozart the other day, and (although uncontested genius that he undoubtedly is) he does it like he plays Bach, mostly even all the way. Must say I like your style better. It's a "cute"' moment where Mr. Jacobsen suggests "not playing the resolution louder than the dominant," and Tiffany can't help resisting that, because we naturally think of the resolution as the climactic moment the phrase has been building toward. The classical aesthetic in this respect seems to require resisting this impulse, and in Beethoven there's similarly a modern desire to resist the dynamic markings having this buildup, crescendo as you approach the resolution, and when you get there, it's "p", and can feel such a let-down. This requires putting yourself in late 18th century aesthetic shoes, and we want to impose our own. What's poignant about Mr. Jacobsen's remark is that he has already internalized that 18th century aesthetic and idiom, playing Mozart, to the point that it has become his actual taste, no force required. Tiffany is so focused on romantic repertoire (favorite bein Schumann), she seems to naturally resist the classical aesthetic. Thee technique, the touch, the crisp rhythm, beautiful articulation of the melodies... so much beauty in the playing, but connoisseurs of Mozart (which I'm not, and Mr. Jacobsen obviously is) require strict fidelity to that idiom Tiffany hasn't 100% internalized yet, and resists. I could be quite wrong in my take on this, but how it appears to me. But all that said, it's certainly going to be a glorious performance. Every pianist must be him or herself, and the musical personality Tiffany brings to the Mozart concerto will glisten. I like her bringing the more 19th century sensibility to it. If you take, say Robert Levin playing this repertoire you get a totally different thing from Horowitz. Levin tries to place himself 100% in the world and mindset of the composer (to an almost pedantic effect) ; Horowitz views the composer-performer as a much more equal partnership, so you hear almost as much Horowitz as Mozart. Bottom line, it will be an exquisite performance with Tiffany's personality shining through.

Allegretto is correct. It's charming and Eric is right there is more music in it to bring out at that tempo. Also, I'm in Berlin where my oldish neighbors are very sound conscious. There's been lot's of negotiation over my practicing. As much as I don't take it personally it does effect how much I project when I play. Must be tough dealing with this when you're a working pianist.

Packet full of insights , thanks . Playing things slow or fast , changing the origional score bye one note ; something I've been dying to do to a trill , on the only piece I've learnt of Mozarts , although i won't and of course all the beauty of a Cello with a piano .

Fantastic!!!! Really glad to see you in your Happy Face😁. I can hear your neighbor downstairs (in a Monty Python fake female voice) saying, "Great! The next thing you know she'll be up their playing with the whole bloomin' New York Philharmonic Orchestra!"😜 As far as me, hope so . . . soon! Reminds me of my friend in the Philly area who had a little get together in her large Main Line living room with a string quartet of the principal string players of the Philadelphia Orchestra providing the music for 50, or so, close friends. As far as you, this video proves that you are a premiere, professional, concert pianist first and KZreadr second.
