1Pen, 1 Ink: Rohrer & Klingner Smaragdgrün + Ranga Model 8B with Bock Titanium Nib

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

KZread is drowning in ink and pen reviews. I don't think anyone needs my opinion on top of those who do much better and more experienced reviews.
I'm just trying to convey the enjoyment of writing with a given ink in a given pen for fellow weirdos that just like to watch fountain pens at work. There are some review-adjacent qualities, I guess, but I'm not really trying to advise anyone to buy or not buy anything.
I guess this could also technically be a FrankenPen File, given the swapping of the Bock titanium nib into the Ranga.
I purchased my Ranga directly from Ranga Pens. Their website is here rangapens.com/ but it's not very complete. If you're interested, browse their listings on eBay and Amazon and then e-mail them directly. I know it can seem a bit iffy to order from someone you don't know all the way in India, but their customer service is impeccably polite and conscientious. There are plenty of testimonials on places like www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/ too.

All of my videos are non-commercial, uncompensated musings. If I seem eager to link to vendors and brands, it's because the fountain pen world is a niche industry, and I want to support people and companies that have made products and provided services I enjoy.

This channel is too classy to be viral but never mind. The lady’s handwriting doesn’t need the ugly masses, it is sublime and far beyond all that. 😇

Excellent penmanship. I wonder if Robert Oster makes a green with pink sheen ink, like a fire and ice but green; forrest and sunset that could complement the pen?

Robert Oster Tranquility and Marine both look pretty good in that pen, but I haven't pulled the trigger on a full bottle yet. The sheen in both is more of a pinky red, not a full-on pink.

I am also very much enjoying my Ranga 8B pens, very nicely balanced, and I have one with a Kanwrite semiflex. I wonder how this would differ with your Titanium Bock nib, which I believe is also a semiflex?

Titanium nibs are much softer but don't have the same snap back as a steel flex nib (and are much easier to spring). Titanium nibs are more to enjoy a "soft" writing experience, not for true flexing, IMO.

One question, did you use the ebonite feed that came with the Ranga stock nib to when you swapped nibs (default Bock nib is plastic, unless I'm mistaken)? Thanks.

  • @TheHardcoreDilettante

    @TheHardcoreDilettante

    4 жыл бұрын

Bob, I did use the Ranga ebonite feed. However, the titanium nib is so much thinner than a steel or gold nib that there was a loose fit. Not enough to cause serious issues, but enough that burping was more common than I liked (too much air exchange, I suspect), so I've since replaced it with a F Nemosine steel nib that I ground into an architect.

@@TheHardcoreDilettante Thanks. I'm having a pen made with a Bock 8 titanium precisely because I want an ebonite feed. Have you tried this nib? kzread.info/dash/bejne/X52rqbeeYM-6n7A.html

Where is that music from... Sounds like WII waiting room or something :P Well you might have small hands but at least you have neat fingernails unlike most reviewers lol Im looking into a ranga pen like this one and upon watching this video i realized it is available in the "premium" ebonite colors as well. Now its even harder to pick a color lol. I might actually go for the green/pink premium like you did. It looks good :) (I wish they had more swirls with black that were MOSTLY black... Instead of like 50/50 black and a color.)

@@TheHardcoreDilettante yeah i knew i heard it before lol I noticed that you went with the thicker version of the pen even though you said you have small hands! Even the small version is pretty big... You dont find it too thick to hold? Im thinking that the smaller version would still be plenty big for me hmmmmmm i dont have small hands but it would still be the biggest pen i own i think.

@@joshuanorris5860 I find it very comfortable, but I like a larger grip because it allows me to be more relaxed about my hold on the pen, especially if the material is ebonite, which has very good traction. When it comes to pen comfort, I mostly worry about pens that have slippery sections of any size, that have sharp/uncomfortable edges or a steep step where I like to grip, or are backweighted, as I find those traits very uncomfortable, and this pen doesn't have those problems at all. I think the smaller version would also be very comfortable. Go with what you know feels good to you, as this sort of thing is a very personal preference.

@@TheHardcoreDilettante thanks very much for the reply! :) a good answer. Its deffintly a comfy looking section to me. Hmmmmmmmmmmm I think ill go on the safe side with the more narrow pen. As i know it will be comfy for sure, if it isnt too big.

The ink brand is Rohrer & Klingner, a German ink company. The color name is Smaragdgrün (German for "emerald green"). It's available from many sources online that specialize in fountain pens and fine writing instruments (Goulet Pens, Anderson Pens, Pen Chalet, Goldspot, etc. in the USA) and in the USA it can be found on Amazon as well.
