This sounds slightly like an F1 race car

Gotta love that unique sound a 5 cylinder makes. Just like a V10, but higher RPMs.

It reminds me the V10 F1! Great sound!

I love the sound and the cars. I worked on these cars in 2000 in stcc on Mattias Ekström car. 3 chassis was built in 1999. 1 car left in Sweden with Janne Flash Nilsson.

I'm torn between this and the V6 Ford Mondeo.

I remember the sound of this car when I was a kid and every time it went past me it gave me goosebumps.. what music!

I recently purchased a 5 cylinder Volvo, the sound was worth the money alone, its warble is uncommon on the roads and highly entertaining when let off the leash.

Now THAT is a touring car! One of the many incredible things Tom Walkinshaw ever did. Motorsports is missing him, and people like him

This is bad ass! Just found this. I have a 1/10 RC replica body of this exact car. I have all the same sponsor stickers except for the paint job. I decided to paint the body purple and actually looks much cooler. Thanks for sharing.

i remember seeing one of these at croft idling in the pit garage, the mechanic had a set of ear protects on, the garage was just filled with the car idling, it was that loud! The mechanic, just put the wheel nut on, and looked over at us, and give the engine a right hold blip! it went from very aggressive growling idle to a very angry shout! This was back in 1999 i think. That was before all the noise regs! These practically had a straight through pipe!

Basicly it lacks traction out of corners. Altough it is slightly lighter because they do not have a driveshaft to the rear wheels, which also better for the wheel horsepower. You will lose less power in the driveterrain.

Are the fuel injectors right in front of the Ibt?

those are ITB's or individual throttle bodies. Fuel injection, not carbs.

Wish there was a company that would take older cars like the Laguna's, volvos, Mondeo's etc and build them into a new type of performance car. Taking a £1000 shit heap and turning it into a 35-40k street weapon that'll destroy modern day hot hatches. With warranties and finance options. Modern technology in an older chassis and body. Recycling cars on their last breaths and turning them into road going supertouring cars. Wouldn't be hard, would it? 90% of the design is done already.

The supertouring cars didn't actually bear much in common with their base cars. They were supposed to but there were so many "cheats" or "clever" rule interpretations to the point multiple cars had lowered roofs for aerodynamics

How old are you? IThis Volvo is 1996 model, so until it got picked up to be a modified touring car its at least '97 or '98 and I don't know for how long it stayed on the tracks, but it could have been 4-5 years, so we are going in the 2000's :)

This is a 99 model. The S40 raced in BTCC from 1997-99, and in the Swedish Touring Car Championship from 98-2002.

ALL S/V40's are FWD. Which are the driven tyres on this car. Its making sound not like a F1 car, but like a mad Superbike. Everything and suspension is so modified, but still my stock T4 200hp is loosing grip on the corners with lots of understeer at times. So it is RWD or AWD, or FWD?

Smita it's fwd but supertouring cars were purpose built with massive budgets and the best technology at the time so it's obviously not going to have the same handling characteristics as your road car lol

Nope 5 cylinder engine. I tought it was based on the B5204..

what carbs... those are fuel injection... not carbs...

Yes it did. S40 T4 was a limited run 5 cylinder Car.
