There's an old mechanic's trick for aligning transmissions to engines, where you get a few of the longest bolts you can find with the same thread as the bellhousing bolts, then you cut off the heads and thread them into the block. Using those, you can eliminate a few degrees of freedom in the equation when trying to engage the spline. There are some risks: if you put too much sideways force on the bolts (like resting the whole transmission on the ends of them) you can damage the threads or even snap the holes off the block. I like your extensive use of jacks, though, that really helps you fine tune the angles without any exertion until you find that sweet spot. Thanks for making these maintenance videos! It really makes me see Porsche ownership as a totally viable proposition to the home mechanic, rather than haemorrhaging money on specialist shops, especially down here in Oz.

Yeah once you crack a hole on the bell housing…. Or a thread in the engine…!!! I’d be so defeated if that happened. I use the stock bolts to help close the gaps but I try to not rely too heavily on that method since in a perfect world the two should effortlessly mate together. I never want to force an interference. Also thanks for the kind words. These cars are really easy to work on. Hopefully no one should have to do trans work or engine work, but Porsche did a decent job of making these “workable” even with their odd engine layouts and tight compartments. The routine maintenance stuff is so easy I don’t even make videos for it. I try to do the stuff that no one has documentation on. I’ve saved probably $20k in labor by doing all this myself. Coming up once I finish editing is a full how to on a gears out transmission rebuild on this car…

I was shocked how fast it healed… still recovering from double skull fracture and brain bleed though. Few days in the ICU. Trying to get back to normalcy and routine. I slept 20 hours a day for 5 days straight last week
