    Just picked up a 98 with pano and AMG package two weeks ago. Dark blue with tan interior. Drove it home about 100 miles. I thought I was doing 70-75 mph, I look at the speedo and I'm doing 90 mph. Took it up to 100 and the car was solid. Love it.

    I have to ask - since I noticed you're also running a Sport model.. Did you have the dust shield scrape against the brake rotor at all? It seems to me that when I put the new control arm on, everything was fine until I dropped the car and torqued everything down (I replicated the old control arm specs to the new control arm). I'm guessing with a shorter spring, the control arm will need to have more adjustment. But I just can't figure out why the scraping is so bad - and it's on both sides. Also, did you have any issues with your headlight level system? It seems like my headlights are pointed lower now

  • @slownrusty

    @slownrusty

    7 ай бұрын

    I did not experience any dust shield scrape at all. Did you try bending the dust shield back? What exactly is it scraping on? My headlights are ok as well, even though the car is lower.

  • @ruslankontsimal7072

    @ruslankontsimal7072

    7 ай бұрын

    @@slownrusty so when I first installed the control arm, I noticed the shield was rubbing against the brake rotor on only one side. I probably inadvertently bent it. Being glad I didn’t mount the calipers on, I quickly removed the rotor and bent the shield back a bit, using a few light hammer taps on the part that protruded most. Rotor came back on, problem solved. Driver side wasn’t scraping at all when the new control arms and struts were mounted. I installed everything, including the wheels, set the car on ramps, crawled underneath, and tightened the eccentric control arm bolts back to the former condition (so that alignment would be more or less the same until I had a chance to do a new one at the dealer). Tightened it all down everywhere. Dropped the car. Took it for a test drive, and I heard a subtle scraping sound during regular driving. It was an even worse sound when I was turning, like 2-3x louder on the scrape. Drove back into the garage, took the wheels off, and noticed the rear of the brake rotors was scratching in the exact area where the brake shield protrudes most - which I don’t know if you recall, but it’s exactly where the control arm ball joint is sitting directly behind. All that being said, my guess is that maybe when I lowered the car, the ball joint pivoted a little and the edge of that control arm pressed into the dust shield, which then presses into the brake rotor. At this point I just want to take the lowering springs off and put on the original springs after all I’ve been through, knowing that now I have to take the calipers off, mess with the rotors, mess with the dust shield, check the control arm, etc.. The control arm shouldn’t be the issue, it seems like maybe with the lowering springs on, the ball joint pivots more on that control arm. I’m surprised you didn’t have any issues at all with this. I wonder why it’s happening to me and if a new alignment would fix the issue.

    @@slownrusty I may have figured it out - which control arms did you use? Lemforder or TRW? Or a different brand? I noticed the Lemforders I got have two little ears in them, whereas the TRW ones do not. My originals were TRW stamped as well…

    @@slownrusty that’s what I should’ve done in the first place! Did you reuse the old bolts or also get new ones? Such as the ball joint and eccentric control arm bolts.. and also, are you running spacers at all? Since our sport body is wider, I feel like we might need spacers for a better look but I’m still in progress on this project as I’m waiting for new control arms so I’m not sure what the final look will be like
