Derek and PCA are a fantastic team to have on your side when importing JDM vehicles. I have had nothing but wonderful interactions with them and am extremely happy with the vehicle I imported with them. Im fairly bummed about the haters in this comment section. Felt I had to say something.

Headrest on passenger side is to make a clear view of the road ahead for the rear passenger. All the Negoya cabbies that drove Crowns when I was regularly going over had that headrest split and down like that so you could see from the back…

I’ve used Derek and PCA to buy several cars, the crown I bought last year is on this channel. There is an element of risk buying sight unseen at auction overseas, but getting their translated auction sheets and insight from their reps (Grant is great) helps mitigate some of it. After awhile you get a sense of grading standards from different auction houses which can give you a better idea of how to interpret their number grades. Personally, I only purchase cars graded 4 B/B or better with minimal notes on the body inspection and ones that are first time listed at auction.

It’s concerning that a car in this condition can get a 3.5

I bought a grade 4 car that was even worse than this... Ratings are all over the place now. I suspect some inspectors are getting bribed by sellers to up the grade.

17:18 is for the VIP front window visibility (in Nissan, the entire headrest can collapse forward) 18:00 Air Purifier is for heavy smokers; some models have ionizers to reduce odors 20:06 is the hands-free speaker for connected NTT DoCoMo cellular handset in the rear armrest (this was before Bluetooth)

JZS155 and JZX100 are on similar chassis. I'm used to the other Crowns with frameless windows. Really good cars, especially if you can get one with a working EMV.

The condition is bad for japanese standards, but it would be pretty average, good even for a car this old in my country. While watching these reviews it always blew my mind just how clean the cars were, I've been waiting for an exception

4:07 the paint code for this car is 202, which is typically a single stage paint on all but the Century and possibly a handful of others. On a Crown, this would be more than likely since it’s ultimately a volume model rather than anything special, and I know it’s even the case for at least the UCF20/21 Celsiors and LS400s. If the owner is here in the comments, the good thing is that you can most likely bring it back by polishing it to remove the oxidized top layer, if not doing a full correction-Toyota single stage paint jobs usually go on pretty thick (however, you should still be careful or seek professional help). However, because there is no clear coat (and never was to begin with), it becomes a relatively high-maintenance paint job once it’s fixed as you’ll need to regularly maintain and protect it. Regular washing and waxing will suffice but you could also look into ceramic coatings or similar solutions. Some other Toyota paint codes that are typically single stage include 3E6 (found on AE86s and still remains in use on Hong Kong taxis), and 040 (usually called Super White II; Derek has featured some pretty bad examples on the channel like the 2003 Raum and 2005 Crown Comfort)

Ill guess the story of this car was it was owned by an old dude who installed the car phone stuff and then passed down to a young guy who smoked in it and put the weed air fresheners. Basically the same fate every Buick Lasabre gets

I think there's something interesting about importing a JDM only model that blends in initially as a common USDM model. This crown would look like a UCF20 LS400 if you aren't looking at it too closely, kind of like importing an R33 Sedan, or a JZX will look like a gen 3 or 4 Camry/ES300 in traffic, but car people would also have to do a double take like "Wait a minute".

They do, they have been doing this for 15+ years. Auction stuff is out of their control. This is there first time seeing it aswell. They go off the sheet and send all the info and photos to the buyer before bidding. Its on the buyer if they choose to bid.
