If your LS has lots of rusted nuts and bolts, go to Ace Hardware and get stainless ones. Gradually, I've replaced most of the visible fasteners with corrosion-free replacements.

I come to this video every once in a while to soothe my soul, it's like therapy for a car guy. :)

Yes, it probably is. Modern cars in general just don't have the same level of build quality and eye for detail like those from the 80's and 90's. Sad thing really...

It's better if I tell you what I like about my 2006 430 over the 460 1) Classic stately appearance, like a next generation Mercedes W140. Almost every luxury sedan now wants to look like a coupe with 4 doors, AKA, CLS benz. 3) Big windows and huge headroom. I'm so tired of car windows getting smaller while door belt lines go higher. 2) Better looking LED tail/brake lights. 3) Last model year of generation, which means most bugs resolved and bullet proof reliability. 3) No annoying direct injection engine ticking sound at idle. 4) No annoying wind noise from the mirrors like the early 460's had. 5) Gorgeous Ultra Luxury edition interior. Black on Black with ribbed leather door panels, stitched leather dash and console, burnt wood trim, and suede like roof trim. 7) King size captain's chairs with super soft leather. 6) Little details deleted from the 460: Swiveling vents, fillers inbetween the seats and console to catch falling cell phones, wallets, etc. I may be wrong on this one. Let me know. 7) I did add a subwoofer and powered amp to the Mark Levinson sound system. Now it's absolutely perfect! Speakers still perform beautifully aside from the occasional rattle from the passenger door map pocket. That's all I can think of for today :)

I have both a 1995 Lexus LS400 (base edition) & 1996 Lexus LS400 (this one has the Special Gold edition with all the upgrades that comes with it) the 95' has 164,000 while my 96' has 167,000. Both have perfect Tan leather interiors. Because i have both these sweethearts already completely detailed from engine bay to trunk..you'll usually see me in my 1999 Lincoln TownCar Cartier edition with its Ivory Parchment Pearlessence finish creme leather & walnut appointments 460engine smooth & dependable..you know pretty much same engine as CrownVic's

I have metallic silver jade too. I think that's the same color, but my clearcoat has oxidized after 24 years. Can't hear my engine with hood down, though, after only 181,000 mi.

Hey congrats on your first pick! I loved my 96 too. But I have to say, my 2006 LS430 ultra luxury retains just about everything wonderful about the 96 and then takes it to another level. Even today, I feel like a king rolling down the street. The 6-speed with power mode on gives it a much better throttle response. When Alan Mulally took over Ford as CEO in 2006, he pulled in with a LS430. When questioned about it, he simply said, "The LS430 is the finest car in the world."

On my 1997 the Pioneer Audio System is remarkable for its clarity and freedom from RF disturbances or fade when far from stations' transmitting towers. It may just be the large metro area in which I live. It's the best FM broadcast on the road I've experienced, but not quite as good as my old Fisher Receiver and Altec speakers from the 1970s at home..

I didn't buy the LS400 for it's V8. I bought it for it's relentless attention to details, craftsmanship, fit and finish, and reliability, which includes the V8. The 1UZ-FE engine is considered one of if not THE most reliable engines ever made.

@@joemcdonough7509 Ohh yeah, i believe that(reliable engines). Here in the Netherlands you see this car not much anymore. It's in very good shape. Good buy!! But it looks like a "boat", so slowly... What is the weight of the Lexus? About 1800 kilo's/3968 pounds? Maybe more? My "Mondy" is about 1400 kg/3086 pounds. It's an old 2002 Ford Mondeo(i think "Fusion" in the US) 2.5 V6, 262.000km(about 162.799 miles),also a very reliable engine(no leaks,no much oil consumption; fuel he likes that...). The engine was developed together with Porsche; but it's not a Porsche-engine,of course. Same engine in the Jaguar X-type and Mazda(US models). Okay,it's not as luxurious as the Lexus,but for me..luxurious enough. And..pretty fast(acceleration,topspeed about 130 miles/hour; original 139 miles/hour). Every now and then i drive direction Germany at 170/180 km/h(105,6/111,8 miles/hour) he likes that....For US a 2.5 V6 engine ,it's a "small' engine but here it's pretty big. Especially nowadays; a lot of 3 cilinder(with turbo) engines,even in mid-sized cars(Ford Focus for example). Excuse me for the long story..

No need to apologize. The Mondeo is a fantastic car! Have you seen The Grand Tour show (formally called Top Gear)? The 3 guys gave a tribute to the Mondeo Estate and called it their all time favorite car. Check out season 3 episode 14 "Funeral for a Ford" and it is after the 30 minute mark of the episode.

@@louisdefunes8952 The car was a bit slow, but nonetheless competitive for its time. 0-60 in about 7.4 seconds. The ride however was very soft and almost floating. The only car that rode softer was old Lincolns and Cadillacs, which rode like on a cloud.

New (used) engine in it?

Original engine on it. LS400 engines are basically indestructible. Easily the most reliable component on the car. The Smoking Tire channel has the same year LS400 as mine with 1 Million miles on it! Original engine, but they said the transmission was rebuilt 3 times over those miles.

​@@plsniper You should also look into an LS430. I had one for 5 years and it's everything the LS400 had plus more. Same bulletproof engine and the best car seats I have ever sat in.

OMG, that Pioneer stereo. Looks like a car stereo from 2010, or newer. It's like putting a bunch of bumper stickers on a Lamborghini. Sorry, but does not fit that amazing car.

Agree, big mistake putting that in. At the time, the tape deck failed on the original head unit, which i used to connect my iphone to the stereo with an adapter. So I needed a quick and cheap fix, and that was it. I found out later of a company that can add an auxiliary port to the original factory head unit.

It does sound loud in the video. But the microphone picks up more noise than your ears will. The LS400 is a super quiet car to drive. I recorded 68db sound levels one time with my iphone while driving on back roads, which is impressive.

Great comprehensive video and beautiful car. I've heard that the ls 400 is buttery smoth and soaks up all the bumps, but it sounded quite loud in the video. How would you describe the ride compared to something like a camry or honda accord?

@@muaythai193 Oh then you wouldn't like the Lexus then. These V8's are near silent at idle. In fact, Lexus bragged that if you took a DB meter inside at idle, it would match the DB of a library. :-) For a nice low rumble, you can find that in a Cadillac Seville STS with the Northstar V8. They put out a beautiful sound. Try to find one after the year 2000, which I believe were updated with more reliable head bolts to prevent head gasket leaks.

Sounds like engine idle is too fast
