I love the sound of these engines, I can just tell literally by the starter motor sound if it’s a cab or not, I can even tell by how the engine runs as to if it’s a taxi or not.Such well-made engines
Bulletproof engine. Keep it topped up and serviced annually will do a million miles easy!!!!

Oh hail the Nissan TD27 engine.
I think the reason it is cramped in front is that originally they were engineered for manual gearboxes, which are smaller, and for old fashioned engines, which had more compact pushrod or sidevalve configurations, as well as smaller displacements and small bore engines. Cramming modern systems into this 1958 design meant compromises. For example, the original engine would have been the BMC 2.2 liter diesel, as I understand.
I miss the old London Taxis, we still have some of them operating in Nairobi. they are expense tho

Just noticed one 1991 model for sale here in Finland.I just might buy that one.I drive taxi myself but that Fairway will be my personal/off duty vehicle.thanks for the information, that sure was needed!
Miss my old 1988/89 FX4S that I privately imported ex UK to Australia. Mine also had rear PW & AC . All Nissan running gear including the SD25 diesel engine & Jatco Auto tranny. Tough old car that turned heads in NSW . Spare parts were easy to source & cheap. E120KHX was the original rego .
Need to move that fuse box dude. They have a tendancy to leak through windscreen. Get a new seal and get it professionally installed. Won't fully rectify the issue but will make it ten times better!!
Lovely looking taxi cab. I got to ride in a few of these when I visited England with my parents.

So cool taxi lti tx4 ❤ 🇬🇧
Such an honest review, I had wondered about the front seat thing in mine, but now it makes sense! Cheers
I was with a bus company in Rainham, Dagenham and Purfleet,, we had ex London Taxis as Driver ferry vehicles for Drivers to travel to Barking, Dagenham, and Romford to take over our relevant bus.. We mainly had FX4 R's. The starting procedure was to turn the ignition key and depress the engine stop plunger, then hold they key to the right for a few seconds, this would activate the heater plugs., .and turn further to to the right, and it should start. I was told, that in the London Cab Trade, FX4R stood for FX4 Rubbish, due to the timing chain defect.
9:07 it’s like music to my engine loving ears
Had anyone ever tried to wave you down thinking youre an in service taxi?
Great Cabs Had few these Crackin 👍👍
Great video! I’ve been thinking of getting a FX4 as a wedding car. Obviously getting it re painted and trimmed. I believe most of them suffer with corrosion?
great cab man love it / is it easy too insure I had problems the last 1 I had
A beautiful car
Great vid, thank you! Can you please do a video how the "board-communication" (intercom?) works and where are the microfones and the speakers etc. That would be cooL!

Don't tell 'em how to do it! I used to activate the central locking too, but had one climb out of the window whilst moving! Kensal Green from Croydon!
for the longest time i wanted to drive one of these as a personal car
Poor taxi drivers, the space in the front is miserable ... but in the rear is HUGE, you can park car in inside this space. Nice classic.
You do realise it's technically illegal to use that yellow light whilst on the public road. An arsy copper could charge you with plying for hire.
I took a taxi from the hotel, But so CONFUSED the taxi driver trying to tell me where I wanted to go, the poor man goes straight into a traffic light!
Where can I get the tip seat installed? Thanks
Cool taxi
I had the last of the ‘Driver’ before the TX1 came. Braw motor.
do you still have it??
What a shame, its a mess, surely must be worth looking after.
Well though out design. 🇬🇧😎🇬🇧
It's a good design that the rear door lock when foot brake is depressed to stop people doing a runner. Any taxi drivers watching this you should definitely stop the rich people including police officers & non tax payers leaving without paying you (those people think they can have a free ride). London cabbies are the best in the world, keep up the service.
My dads last Fairway bronze had 900000 on the clock before it was retired by the carriage office. I think it had a Nissan engine with a 3 speed Borg Warner auto gearbox.
Stephen, has it been sold?

Very cool'
Iv wanted a decommissioned taxi as an everyday vehicle, untill I found out how much the road tax is😳
I have autism and whenever I take a ride in a cab I always ask the driver what the engine is.
School bus is not the only person I will call you for lunch or two 😮

I believe they had a reputation for rusting badly, is this true or maybe just earlier models ?
@christerry8883

The FX4 and early fairways were no worse than any other vehicle made of steel. When the fairway variant came out with the Nissan engine, it was such a huge improvement on previous versions LTI could not keep up with the demand. So to speed up production they skimped on the paint. Later fairways suffer with tin worm as a result. This happened roughly from H reg onwards...if memory serves.
