Look how small the stacks are on them tractors😳 they run em 3x’s that size now lol!! Still love watching these old pulls no roll cage hammer down ol son💪

Those small stacks were 5",most intake wheels were 3.7 -3.9" appropriate for the time, some today are 6" but produce three times the power in the upper 3k-to 4k hp. Impressive gains considering the engines are no bigger

Why didn't they show the first few tractors and the sled reset, I know I was there and finished 6th,this was the last 12 pro at BG

There was a movie by the name of "death rides a horse". Death rides these tractors too. Can't believe there were no roll cages on these tractors. Those guys using a seat belt to stay on was too little too late in my opinion. It is amazing there were not more people hurt on them before roll cages. Good vodeo just makes me cringe.........

There have been accidents of course, and as the tractors gained more horsepower the rides became wilder so just 5 years after this broadcast (so in 1999) all new tractors running with the NTPA were required to install a roll cage. Today only the hot farms don't need roll cages. As for the "cringe", that's not entirely justified. Keep in mind that pulling is a constantly evolving sport, and at the time of recording this roll cages werent deemed necessary until an accident with David Walsh in 1999.

@@linux_doggo Maybe I was a bit over dramatic but you will admit it is a dangerous sport. I have run big equipment a lot of my 61 years and I know how it feels when they get a little squirrely. I can only imagine what it feels like in the seat of one of those monsters. Not familiar with the Walsh accident. Can you explain? Thanks for your reply.

@@johnnyholland8765 In 1999 David Walsh hooked up to a faulty sled, which didn't stop the tractor like it was supposed to. It crashed into a concrete barrier and rolled over it. Luckily however Walsh was an innovator and one of the early roll cage adopters and thus survived the wreckage. That accident made roll cages a requirement for practically all classes for the 2000 season Correction: it was 1998, not 1999. Roll cages were still not entirely enforced until 2000 however. Some how most of us survived , the rule book at the time didn't require the use of seat belts on ( big tractors). Sadly even as more safety equipment was mandated no allowance was made the additional weight of roll cages,tie bars, skis ,inner engine panels, and the completely worthless second drawbar, haven't seen one yet that looks like it could actually work

It's ok if you were over dramatic, you would feel safe as a spectator at most events today, plenty of space between the seats and the track, never thought much about it until I went to Norwalk raceway park and you could almost touch the vehicles going by at 300 MPH. l have seen plenty of wheels come off tractors, damper assemblies, connecting rods, complete engines, maybe we should cover the entire machine with a Kevlar blanket , or view from a remote location. I shouldn't give the ntpa any ideas.
