    How I miss these days when fans supported their team and driver with passion without the need to make negative comments about their rivals. Nowadays F1 is filled with toxic fans who don’t appear to support anyone but seem obsessed with abusing drivers to provoke an argument with other likeminded wastoids online. Very sad.

    I still have this on VHS. I bought it in 1997. The deaths of Senna and Ratzenberger were handled very sensitively - no voyeuristic images of the crash and the medical crew.

    Don't agree. It's ok, watched it 200 times I reckon as a teen who became obsessed with F1 in 1995. I bought them all on VHS. Good music but it doesn't show good angles of many of the incidents like the starts, incidents or accidents. I only got to see what happened at the start in Aida in 1994 when KZread came along. That's just one example of important footage they missed. Frustrating, it's more style over substance this review. 1988/89/90/91 are far better and more comprehensive reviews.

    Watching this back after so many years is so interesting. It's very clear now that this was F1's "Group B" phase, the cars had all the speed of 1993 but without the electronic aids keeping them in check. The result was a disconcerting, out-of-control Formula which saw a spate of horrific accidents which nearly killed several drivers, and did kill two. We could have so easily lost Barrichello, Lamy, Wendlinger and Montermini that year as well as Senna and Ratzenberger. The upshot what that the racing was sublime, the drivers were on the limit all the time. But given what we lost, it probably wasn't worth it.

    one of the great what-ifs of 1994 is if McLaren opted for the lighter, more powerful, but fragile Lamborghini engine, which Senna likes, instead of the Peugeot engine, maybe Senna would've opted to stay with McLaren and who knows what would've happened then at Imola...

    It’s an interesting thought, but after all not a very realistic contemplation. Senna‘s departure from McLaren after the 93 season was inevitable. 92 and 93 had shown Williams’ dominance in such an obvious way, that there was nothing that would have kept the best driver at the time from joining the most successful team. It’s unfortunately this „championship over loyalty“ attitude of Senna’s which I didn’t like about him: McLaren had given him everything including 3 WC titles, and he quit them after two bad seasons, instead of rebuilding the team.

    Senna was deeply disappointed, he made it clear to Adrian Newey and Frank Williams that there was something wrong with the FW16. His companion, Damon Hill, ratified his impression. Senna had piloted the adapted 1993 FW15C and considered it far superior to the model that would replace it. The FW16 at the start of the season was very unstable. Adrian Newey in his autobiography admits that the car had problems.

    Same old crap from people who really don't know. That Williams was still a very good car. Capable over one lap of being the fastest car because it had 70 more horsepower than the Cosworth. Sure, the Williams was twitchy but so were most of the other cars that year. The Williams issues weren't related to the crash Senna had. Every car, even the Simtek went comfortably flat out through tamburello. It was a nothing corner. Even in the mid 80s it was known as a curved straight.

    Piquet said there is no way the driver could make a mistake at the Tamburello curve. And he said that all the accidents on the curve were due to mechanical problems. The car was unstable at the beginning of the season and they did some poor welding which caused the accident. Adrian Newey himself confirms that the car was unstable, there is no way to dispute the car's designer.

    obviously the loss of ayrton senna is what is remembered most in the 1994 season but ratzenberger's crash is the one that really sticks in my mind it is a chilling reminder along with the very bad letho/lamy startline collison of a sport that has and will continue to pose such a huge risk of injury and/or death to those who participate in it.....

  • @Ben94

    @Ben94

    3 жыл бұрын

    Buuuuullshit, Senna’s steering column failed. If he did oversteer, he wouldn’t have hit the wall head on. Senna’s car also couldn’t have gone straight on due to a lack of downforce since the crash would’ve happened a lap earlier if that was the case, since the tyres were colder thus having a lower tyre pressure, thus lowering the car making it lose lots more downforce. Senna didn’t make a single mistake in that corner, he was a passenger in a car not looked after well enough

    I watched the practice/qually/race live. I was shocked and gutted by poor Roland's crash and then utterly heartbroken on the Sunday after Ayrton's crash. Just a horrible horrible race, so many things went wrong. Ayrton had ghastly bad luck too. was killed when a piece of suspension arm still attached to the wheel pierced his helmet. if not for that, if the wheel had have bounced slightly more left/right or the suspension part had been pointing in another direction then he would have probably walked away from that crash. Just very very bad luck indeed. as for "in a much better place'... well they just don't exist anymore, there's no magic man in the sky, that middle ages thinking needs to go and the world would be a better and more peaceful place.

I wished he had said goodbye to Formula One but he was under too much pressure and depended upon. Sad that a half ass weld on his cobbled extended steering column cost him his life bad penetration welding alloy was the real cause although never determined as this would mean liability.

    They introduce regulations that take away active suspension, TC, add refueling and take it other electronic gadgets that made driving more safe. Then they'll put in protective gear for the drivers to keep them safe. Shit logic. From that season interest in F1 started to decline.

    its hateful to say it but with the name such as rolandfollowed by ratzenberger"wood no doubt bear the brent of alot of amusement to just about any person.but in reality as murray walker rightly said"roland really was a extra special gift"in his book review of the 1994 season...i hope his parents take comfort and find some solace in that fact....that there son is'nt forgotten..... with(rudolf rolands father)who i was fortunate to converse with in 2012............

    Williams had a good car that season the only possible reason to the Senna's crash can be the destruction thanks to the constructive change which was made on place whitout waiting for the original.part to be delivered of the steering colum because of inadecuate Senna's recognition of the stability and steering capability of the car it's Senna's fault.
