1994-1997 Honda Accord Door Lock Actuator Repair

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I show you how to repair a noisy door lock actuator on 1994-1997 Accords.
I highly recommend you attempt this repair before deciding to replace your existing OEM actuator with an inexpensive aftermarket replacement.
There is a reason why the OEM actuators cost more the cheap aftermarket actuators fall short on durability and build quality. If you can afford it OEM is the way to go.

I have been getting annoyed with the buzzing sound in my door for quite a while now and came across this video when I was watching the valve cover replacement video. I have the actuator sitting on my desk waiting for the glue to dry. Your videos have been extremely helpful, thank you!

This is brilliant. I have this issue on 91 Accord, but taking off the actuator without taking the latch out of the door doesn't seem possible, and removing and reinstalling the latch is very difficult for me.

Thank you for showing how to do this. On my wagon I switched out my hatch lock with one that works and managed to get the front driver and rear passenger doors locking. I had unhooked the front passenger and rear drivers side because of the noise. I'm confident that doing this repair shown to the locks I have disabled right now will fix them. Then I will hopefully have all 5 locks working perfect.

great video bro... it helped me even though it was not the same problem .. what i found inside was a spring that had popped out of the the big gear ... i then put a small piece of metal big enough to push the spring back down..then i glued the metal bit in and it was working again.

GREAT VIDEO....replacing the loose piece of rubber was a pain.....no room...I decided to remove the pin on the outside of the actuator and therefore I had lots of room to replace and glue the piece of rubber that came off......

Ha! Wow, I always wondered what causes this issue. Our 86 Accord had this issue but I've seen many others in parking lots that had this issue too from other generations as well, very interesting!

Nice video. I had similar sound but it wasn't the rubber bushing (still in place). It was a small black plastic retainer that held a spring into the clutch mechanism.underneath the mechanism. I managed to wedge spring back in place w/ wood chip glued in place and it works,...most of the time.

On my part, the two rubbers were fine and in place but the plastic that held Spring in place was broken and the spring was sticking out. THat is only thing I saw out of place compared to the replacement part. Do you know what the spring does mechanically that may cause the rotatiing teeth to spin over and not engage and stop as they are supposed to? When I switch to unlock/lock position, the teeth just continue to run and not work correctly. Again, the 2 rubber stop are in place and in geat condition. How is the spring not being fully clamped affect this part?

What if the actuator stops still work, but repeats its attempts to lock, whether locking was successful or not. Like somebody repeatedly pressing the lock button 3 or 5 times after pressing it the first and only time? Would this be an issue with the actuator, or linkage, or a relay maybe? And also handle must be lifted or key turned for door to lock.

+Jorge Caldas This was a passenger side actuator from a 95 EX I made a video showing how to remove it. Just remove the 3 screws securing it and pull it back and down to disengage it from the lock / unlock pin.

Jorge Caldas Make sure the screwdriver you're using is in good condition and a tight fit to the screw head. Removing the latch should be a last resort. Remove the window run channel bolt and push the channel off to the side. Pop the rod off at the handle linking the lock cylinder to the latch. Pop off the bushing connecting the latch release rod to the handle. It will require some force right angle pliers are recommended to get behind the bushing to pry it away from the handle. You can also pull the outer handle forward through the door a bit for extra access if you want by removing the 2 bolts. There are two access holes to get to them one is outside the area covered by the door trim panel under a sticker. Once it's off remove the 3 screws on the outside of the door securing the latch and you should be able to maneuver it out. Inspect the handle bushing for damage if it's badly damaged get a new one from the dealer. On re installation the rod should pop into the handle with some effort and you may need to use channel locks to press it back in. If it pops in too easily replace it. Having the latch release rod pop out of the handle with the door closed and the panel on is not something you want to deal with.
