There was a Rhoads ball machine at the museum where I grew up, and whenever we would go I would always go over to it and watch it in amazement.

I remember one of these at a mall in Carlsbad back in the 90s as a kid. It was a two story build with 2 separate levels like the mall was, and the top part was a Giant Clock. Both parts used Billiard balls.

Oh god how this would have me spellbound as I’d stay there and watch it for hours when this used to be at my local mall.
One of these sat in the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC back in the late 80's. As soon as I heard all the noises it made it brought me right back to watching it in person! Thanks for posting

There is one of these beautiful works of art by George Rhodes at the Airport in San Jose, California. You can watch it do it’s thing while you wait for your flight.
The coolest of these was the two-storey one at West Edmonton Mall.
The mall in my hometown had one of these for the longest time but it was never working properly.
I used to always hang out at the one in the old Forest Fair Mall in Cincinnati
They have a 2 story high one of these things in Ithaca at the science center

What I don't get (yet) is how the ball can go in different paths in repeat runs. How does the contraption introduce randomness?

It's a little hard to see in the video, but there's sections that divert the ball into different directions.
