The Chevrolet S-10 is a compact pickup truck that was produced by Chevrolet. It was the first domestically built compact pickup of the big three American automakers. When it was first introduced as a "quarter-ton pickup" in 1981 for the 1982 model year, the GMC version was known as the S-15 and later renamed the GMC Sonoma. A high-performance version was released in 1991 and given the name of GMC Syclone. The pickup was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from 1996 through 2000, but only in North America. There was also an SUV version, the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer/GMC S-15 Jimmy. An electric version was leased as a fleet vehicle in 1997 and 1998. Together, these pickups are often referred to as the S-series.
In North America, the S-series was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series in 2004.
The S-Series ended production in Brazil in 2012, being replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, but still with the name S-10.
The first compact truck from the Big Three automakers was the rebadged Isuzu KB sold since 1972 as the Chevrolet LUV, and Ford quickly responded with the Mazda-built Ford Courier the same year. However, the 1973 Arab oil embargo forced GM to consider designing a domestically produced compact pickup truck.[citation needed] As usual, parts from other GM chassis lines (primarily from the GM G-body intermediates) were incorporated. Track width was similar to the former GM H-body subcompacts (Vega/Monza). The first S-series pickups were introduced in 1981 for the 1982 model year. The base engine (manufactured in Japan and imported) was a 1.9 L Isuzu four-cylinder (RPO LR1) shared with the LUV and Isuzu P'up, with a 2.8 L V6 as an option. The Chevrolet and GMC models were identical apart from the grille, tailgate and assorted insignia. An extended cab called the "Club Coupe" and "Insta-Trac" four-wheel drive were added the next year along with two new engines - a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine (RPO LQ2) from the J-platform automobiles along with an Isuzu 2.2 L (RPO LQ7) four-cylinder diesel engine.
1991 Syclone
Main article: GMC Syclone
The Syclone was a high performance package for the 1991 model year. It came with all-wheel drive, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, a 4.3-litre LB4 V6 with lower compression pistons, a turbocharger and water intercooler system, They produced ~280 hp. Production was limited to just 2998 units.
At the time it was introduced, the Syclone was the quickest stock pickup truck being produced in the world. Auto magazines compared its acceleration favorably to a variety of sports cars including the Corvette and - in a memorable comparison test in Car and Driver magazine - a Ferrari.[2] It features a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, all wheel drive and 4-wheel anti-lock brakes.
Both the Syclone and Typhoon trucks feature a Mitsubishi TD06-17C 8 cm² turbocharger[1] and Garrett water/air intercooler attached to a 4.3 L LB4 V6 engine with unique pistons, main caps, head gaskets, intake manifolds, fuel system, exhaust manifolds, and a 48mm twin bore throttle body from the 5.7 L GM Small-Block engine. All Syclones and Typhoons had a 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission. A BorgWarner all wheel drive transfer case splits torque with 35% forward and 65% to the rear wheels.[1] Both trucks featured sport modifications to the standard suspensions. The Syclone was the first production truck to receive a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system.[3] With this engine, the Syclone produces 280 hp (209 kW) and 350 lb⋅ft (475 N⋅m) of torque.[1] The Syclone, when new, was capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.3 seconds and could do a quarter-mile run in 13.4 seconds at 98 mph (158 km/h) according to Car & Driver's comparison test.

So lucky these guys are . I am from other nation where these models are not sold . No one here likes creativity . This is why we are less in innovation and creativity . I keep watching your videos to learn something about automobiles. Thank you .

Loved those trucks had an 89 s10 4 cyl standard. They were great on gas but this is about the kit not truck it self lol. Great build as always thanks Chris for bringing back a great memory.

I had to laugh at your comment about the tough grill. I grew up in Northwest Indiana where the winters can be harsh. When I was in high school one winter in 93 my buddy's dad just got a new full size Chevy pickup with that tough grill. Sure enough we saw the commercial and my buddy not being the sharpest knife in the drawer had to test it out against my advice not to. The look on his face was priceless when that Louisville Slugger went through the grill followed by "my dad is gonna kick my ass ten ways from Sunday". My response while chucking "sucks to be you buddy"

I built a Revell #7435 GMC Syclone Pick up Skill Level 2 model kit and a Monogram # 2438 Waverider Chevy S10 Pick up Skill Level 2 model kit back in the mid 1990s. The Waverider Chevy S10 was a customized version of the S10 pick up. It had a custom front grill and bumper, custom rims, tonneau pick up bed cover, body ground effects, a rear spoiler for the pick up bed, and a custom decal sheet. It was molded in a metallic green color.
I just finished the scratch built 85 front clip & still working on the dash. This kit is a reissue kit from the 90s wich they reused the mold for the gmc syclone ,s10 lowrider and the waverider same kits with different front grill option and ground effects ,

Awesome build, Chris! I picked up a couple of these myself (and have both 2 different older versions of Revell's S10 the kit was based on sealed-ready to build someday, and 1NIB ready to build later Syclone kit). I've owned 3 1st Gen S10's over the years, a 1988 4x4 Sport (2.8L automatic), and a pair of lowered '91's (at the same time, early 00's), one had been my grandpa's before me (2.5L/5 speed, bare bones truck, I static dropped it as low as I could get it, LOL, he bought it new in 1991) and the other I bought with a 350/700R4 combo already in it that I added "big n little" Rally wheels from a '68 or '69 Camaro (it was a no shine red color, I masked of scallops with flames for the inner striping and sprayed it in grey primer over top of the red, saw an old Datsun 521 in a minitruck show like that and really liked it). Anyways, sorry to ramble. Thanks for the memories, brother, I hope you and family are well 😊✌

Not true sir. You have improper general motors information. The manufacturer began in 1982, produced this truck in 4x4 in all models of s-10 as an option. the bravada came way way later like 1993 they had been producing 4x4. For many years sir the bravada is a non selectable all wheel drive system. Its not selectable as in modes 4x2 or 4x4 high or low range. Lets not spread false information thanks!
Excellent review and build as always! Looks like a great kit that I may need to get, except I'll use the solid rear window. That way I don't have to chase another stereo stealin' thief down the street while waving a baseball bat over my head. :)) Yes, that happened once. :(

Brush it on and leave it alone. Too little paint will leave streaks, too much will run off. Just practice and you'll get it. Enamels self level much easier.
